Fla thought the blond man in the carriage, Jack Caesar Napoleon Hannibal Bismarck Tang, was crazy, but she couldn’t even pinpoint exactly what was wrong with him.
It was probably because after he helped her kill the assailant, and before she even had a chance to thank him, the first thing he said to her was:
"Hand over all your money, your bank cards, and the PINs."
The second thing he said, the instant she turned her head away, was:
"Forget it. I’ve changed my mind."
Then he tossed her a rope. "You’re my brother’s ex-wife. I can’t take advantage of a brother. Tie yourself up."
Of course, Fla didn’t do it. But from his words, she keenly picked up on the word "ex-wife," from which she clearly realized this blond man had probably been sent by Constantine.
So she urgently told him the situation, explaining that Constantine was surrounded by Dragon Attendants and Cultists, and that the Demon Hunter Association and the Dragon Eater Association she’d called for help were actually working together. Not to mention the Silver Tier expert within the Dragon Eater Association, she said, the sheer number of Dragon Attendants, guards, and Cultists was something Constantine could never withstand.
But the man who called himself Constantine’s brother just kept looting the assassin’s body and said nonchalantly:
"Miss Lancelot, relax. Your ex-husband is way stronger than your current fiancé. Back when he was just Black Iron, he ran circles around you at your own engagement party. Dealing with these good-for-nothing Cultists is a walk in the park for him now."
Before Fla could even recover from the suggestive implications of the word "ex-husband," the second half of Jack’s sentence caught her attention:
"The engagement party... You were there too?"
"Ah, my review is that the Peking duck was delicious but not authentic enough. In Constantine’s words, it wasn’t ’the real deal.’ But hey, free food is free food... I do have to admit, though, it’s pretty weird for an ex-husband to secretly attend his ex-wife’s engagement party to someone else."
Jack felt around on the assassin’s body for a while but found nothing. He couldn’t even tell if the person was male or female by feel, which he found strange, so he reached for the pure black mask on the assassin’s face.
Fla clutched her forehead, which seemed to be throbbing in pain. "Why... Why would he come to the engagement party? What for?"
"I don’t know about that. Something about a promise he made to you, I think..."
Of course, Jack wasn’t about to mention him stealing the Engagement Ring, though if Fla was a bit more perceptive, she might have pieced something together from the earlier hint about Peking duck.
Fla looked at the assassin’s corpse before her and sighed. "It’s because he saved me where Anthony died... He probably wanted me to help him get a lighter sentence at the Prole Court... But after that day, it was always Freya in control of my body. I never found an opportunity to take over... And by the time I had a chance later, I realized it was a matter I could no longer interfere in."
She wasn’t hiding the fact that she had Dissociative Identity Disorder anymore. In fact, ever since Baron had unerringly called her "Fla" back at the Dragon Eater Association, she knew the Dragon Knight must have already discovered something through his investigation.
"So what my brother Constantine said is true."
"What’s true?"
"The fact that you have Dissociative Identity Disorder, too. The Constantine Family’s Blood Curse is basically schizophrenia, and it turns out the fiancée he finally managed to snag also has something similar. How interesting."
Fla said, "I’m the one who doomed Mr. Constantine... Mr. Tang, we need to go get reinforcements right now! At Traitor’s Cliff, where the Mad Dragon is imprisoned—that’s where the Lion Eye Knight Order is. Lancelot’s Family used to lead the Lion Eye Knight Order. We can go there and ask for help..."
"Don’t worry. My brother Constantine and I have telepathy. If he’s in real trouble, he’ll let me know... Besides..."
’Besides, that guy is holding an S Level Taboo Item that’s the ultimate artifact for escaping: the Illusory Cocoon.’
The reason Jack hadn’t let the Griffin Carriage fly yet, and was still waiting on the ground, was first, he was afraid of being chased by those Cultists from the Dragon Eater Association who could turn into Winged Dragons.
Second, he was afraid Constantine would use the Illusory Cocoon to make a run for it without him.
As someone with extensive escape experience from Westminster Bank, Jack was keenly aware that the most reliable way to get out of this Monastery was to wait for Constantine.
Although Fla was skeptical, this Mr. Jack, who claimed to be Constantine’s brother by a different father and mother, had said his piece. ’What else can I do?’ she thought.
Jack suddenly let out a surprised, "Huh?" Fla looked over. Jack was still holding a piece of the mask, but the assassin’s body instantly dissolved into a rock. The mask was dissolving too, and by the time Fla registered what was happening, Jack’s hands were already empty.
Yes, dissolving. Like foam vanishing on the sand after the tide goes out. Fla even suspected that if she reached out and touched the rock-like thing, she would still feel the slight dampness left by a retreating wave.
"It vanished? What is this, the Mermaid Princess? Turns to foam the second her identity’s revealed to the prince?"
Jack picked up the rock. "I feel like I’ve seen this stuff somewhere before... By the way, why did that assassin want to kill you?"
Fla had been pondering the assassin’s origins ever since the attack ended and Jack started searching the body. Hearing Jack’s question, she could only voice her current theory:
