Chapter 412 232: Did She Give In to You

Outside the newspaper stand.

"So, did Miss Lancelot give in to you?" Jack asked, a mocking grin on his face. "I can't believe you'd pull a stunt like that, Brother L... And here I was, thinking you were some kind of gentleman..."

Baron paid Jack's words no mind, simply asking, "Has the message been sent?"

When the conversation turned to business, Jack's expression grew a little more serious. "Stella got the message and sent it to the London Tower... but..."

"But what?" Baron's heart sank.

"Golden Wizard Newton isn't there... They say he went to Greenland Island to deal with the North Sea Giant Monster, the Kraken." Jack said, rubbing his temples. "This is getting tricky, Brother L."

"And even though we notified the Templar Order in advance, because of the Hestia Family, the message probably won't get through to them. Besides, even if it did, there wouldn't be enough time. The auction starts in just two hours; it's completely impossible."

"As for the other Law Enforcement Organizations, we can't count on the Demon Hunter Association. The Holy Cross Association has too few Faith Knights; even if they came, we'd get a handful at best. Against so many Dragon Attendants? The ratio would be worse than Australians to kangaroos... As for the Holy Mechanism, it's the same story, not to mention their headquarters is in Italy."

'I knew it...' 'If they weren't completely sure of themselves, the Dragon Eater Association wouldn't have chosen to attack Traitor's Cliff now.'

Baron said, "Regardless, we have to go to the scene."

"Go to the scene? Are you crazy, Brother L? We just barely escaped from Berthelili! How is going back now any different from suicide?"

Jack said, "I, for one, would like to stay alive."

Baron thought for a moment. He realized Jack was right; he shouldn't bring him along.

It wasn't that he was worried about Jack's safety, though. It was purely because he had no idea how that scumbag would drag him down... by literally grabbing his leg.

Just then, a voice as crisp and clear as a silver bell sounded from behind them. "I'll agree to get you into the auction, but I want to make a deal."

He turned to see Freya staring at him coldly. She had wiped away her tears, but the collar was still around her neck.

Baron replied, "What kind of deal? As long as it doesn't involve having my engagement publicly broken again."

Freya shot him a look, anger flaring on her face. But when her hand grazed the collar on her neck, she managed to calm herself.

"Almost forgot."

Baron suddenly stepped forward and tapped the collar on Freya's neck. Instantly, it transformed into a necklace.

'This D Level Taboo Item can change its appearance... It has a lot of functions.'

Baron said, "I'll be counting on you then, Miss Lancelot... Don't forget our agreement."

"I know, I know," Freya said impatiently. "Whoever breaks the agreement has to wear this collar and serve the other as their master for three years."

Once Freya had left the newsstand and was standing outside with her hands on her hips, Jack quietly asked Baron what the agreement was.

"She helps me get into the auction, and I help her get revenge."

"Revenge?" Jack didn't get it. He was confused. "Revenge on who? Aren't you the one getting revenge on them? Why does this suddenly sound like... the Avengers Alliance or something?"

The term "Avengers Alliance" appeared in comics in 1963, so it wasn't surprising that Jack would say it.

Baron sighed. "Who else? The one responsible for this whole situation, of course... Elder Pence of the Hestia Family. As it happens, I have some business to settle with him, too."

'I wonder how I should kill him tonight.'

...............

The Bertelili Holy Cross Monastery was the largest monastery in Berthelili, and it was chosen as the location for the temporary auction being held by several of the great Old Blood Clans and Law Enforcement Organizations.

The guests attending the auction were all powerful figures from the Inner Side, the wealthy and the influential. After entering the venue arranged by the hosts, they began to exchange information amongst themselves.

"I can't believe they suddenly moved up the time for the auction... Why do you think that is?"

"God only knows. They said it was for 'technical adjustments'... It doesn't matter, though. The sooner this auction happens, the better. I heard that aside from newly excavated Alchemy Antiques, they'll also be auctioning off Lawbooks for the major professions... I'll have to see if there's a Lawbook for the Wizard profession."

"A Lawbook for the Wizard profession? I thought your family had been Demon Hunters for generations..."

"Demon Hunters? Please... Haven't you seen? Even a Knight Clan like Lancelot's Family sent their own Legitimate Daughter to study the Wizard profession. Other paths like Contract Knight and Demon Hunter are just too dangerous. In this day and age, being a Wizard is better. At the very least, I've heard their advancement ceremonies aren't as dangerous as the others."

"You might even get into London Tower one day. And even if you don't, worst-case scenario, you can go teach at a Wizard School. The annual salary alone is enough to buy a nice apartment in Inner London, and that's not even mentioning the huge boost to your social status. You could even end up marrying into one of the Old Blood Clans."

"Speaking of getting into London Tower, did you hear? The Constantine Clan from Plains has a Wizard in London Tower now. They say he's already been accepted as a formal apprentice by the Vice London Tower Master... Back in Plains, there were plenty of Old Blood Clans eyeing the Constantine Family's territory. After that news broke, a whole bunch of them showed up at their door to offer their apologies!"

"Even the Lancelot's Family—the ones who broke off their engagement with that Bloodless, Constantine—personally paid them a visit. The rumor is that the Lancelot Family Head even returned a few pages of the Knight's Lawbook they'd originally received from the Constantine Family. Who knows if it's true, though."

"Is that even a question? After what happened at the Dragon Hunting Ceremony, the Lancelot's Family must be kicking themselves. Who could have predicted that the Bloodless Baron Constantin, the man whose engagement they broke off in the newspapers, would suddenly become a Dragon Knight? That's a profession that hasn't been seen since the fall of the Dragon Clan... Ow! What are you doing—"
