After calming down for a while, Xi Siyan slowly took off his coat and glanced at the slit on it—his younger brother’s handiwork.

Xi Siyan showed no expression, merely taking out the belongings inside. His phone was ice-cold, like a brick of frost, maybe due to the low temperature; it was already out of charge.

He plugged it in to charge, and as soon as it was turned on, a message popped up.

Xi Siyan frowned slightly. He didn’t think much about the content; instead, seeing the name "Zhou Chengchen," he suddenly wanted to hear her voice.

He felt so cold right now, and she was his sun.

Usually rational and calm, today Xi Siyan didn’t care that it was already very late and Zhou Chengchen might be asleep; he still dialed her number.

One ring... two rings...

No one answered, and Xi Siyan suddenly chuckled to himself. What was he doing? Just because he got hurt, does he want someone to comfort him?

He’s not a child anymore.

Just as he was about to hang up, the call was answered. Her voice was somewhat muffled, lacking its usual crispness, sounding soft and tender.

Suddenly, Xi Siyan’s heart was tugged, a surge of warmth crept up his throat, yet he didn’t know what to say.

"Xi Siyan?"

After saying hello twice with no response, Zhou Chengchen could only call his name.

Xi Siyan was taken aback again; she usually calls him "Xi classmate Xi classmate," rarely using his name, almost never. Now hearing her soft, tender voice calling his name, Xi Siyan felt a current sweep through him, trembling slightly unawares.

Finally composing himself, he spoke: "Yes, it’s me."

Zhou Chengchen had already sat up; she had been sleeping soundly but was almost going to curse when the phone woke her.

But seeing the caller ID, her chaotic mind suddenly cleared.

She was now wide awake, her voice gradually returning to its usual clarity.

"It’s so late, you haven’t slept yet?"

It was he who called her; asking this made it seem like she was the one calling, but Zhou Chengchen didn’t mind.

Hearing him respond again with an "Mm" and nothing more, Zhou Chengchen belatedly felt that Xi Siyan seemed to be in a bad mood.

She didn’t know why she felt this way; it was just an intuition.

Even though Xi Siyan still seemed like an iceberg now, Zhou Chengchen had completely learned to tell when he was in a good mood, a bad mood, or merely habitually indifferent.

Even over the phone, she could clearly sense his low spirits now.

Not angry, just downhearted.

Zhou Chengchen felt uneasy, wanting to speak up, but then she heard him speak first: "Were you asleep?"

Zhou Chengchen instinctively admitted, then quickly added: "But now I’m awake."

Then there was another stretch of silence.

"Xi Siyan?"

Zhou Chengchen couldn’t help but speak, and Xi Siyan responded with another "Mm" before saying: "It’s late, get some rest. Good night."

After speaking, he hung up the phone.

Zhou Chengchen stared at her phone, confused by the conversation.

And what was he upset about?

Zhou Chengchen couldn’t figure it out. She lay back down, but this time, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t fall asleep.

Tossing and turning until past two o’clock, Zhou Chengchen couldn’t help but send him a text again, but there was no reply—he was probably asleep.
