When Love Turns the Tables: The Mysterious Husband's Chase
Chapter 1154: Go Find HimZhou Chengchen didn’t know when he fell asleep again, but he slept restlessly, waking up in a daze to find it still dark outside. He grabbed his phone and took a look, but there were no new messages, and it was just past six o’clock.
He turned over, already unable to fall back asleep, so Zhou Chengchen decided to get up. Thinking back to Xi Siyan’s unusual behavior yesterday, he dashed into the bathroom, quickly freshened up, got dressed, and wrapped himself in a thick down jacket before heading out.
It was too early, and it was winter, so the Zhou family was mostly still asleep. Zhou Chengchen used his phone to call a car, feeling fortunate to get one so early, although it was early, and the driver was a bit far away.
Zhou Chengchen waited alone at the entrance of the complex for more than twenty minutes before the driver finally arrived. The cold wind was biting, turning her face bright red with cold.
The driver was nice; seeing her in such a state, he asked with a smile if there was some urgent matter at this early hour and turned up the heat by two degrees.
The car wasn’t caught in traffic in the morning, and they arrived quickly at the destination. Zhou Chengchen glanced at the time; it was past seven. The sky was black, but there were already quite a few breakfast stalls and shops open around.
Zhou Chengchen found a place that looked decent and went in: "Two baskets of buns, one basket of shumai, four marinated eggs, and two cups of soy milk, please. To-go, thank you."
Carrying the food she bought, Zhou Chengchen walked through the night to Xi Siyan’s place.
The alley was pitch black, and despite her courage, she couldn’t help but feel a bit anxious.
Scenes of unpleasant news reports flashed through her mind—teen girls dragged into alleys by thugs, terrible things happening.
Zhou Chengchen had initially felt quite cold, but her nerves were now so taut that she couldn’t care less, her steps quickening.
She soon entered the residential building, feeling a bit relieved.
The voice-activated lights in the hallway were still okay. Zhou Chengchen stood at the door, took off her gloves, and knocked on the door.
No one responded.
She finally realized that it was too early, and since it wasn’t a school day, it wasn’t certain that Xi Siyan would be up so early.
But when she rushed out of the house, she just wanted to see him quickly. Wasn’t he in a bad mood?
Zhou Chengchen waited at the door for a while, considering knocking again, but she thought that Xi Siyan might have gone to bed late last night and decided it wasn’t good to disturb him so early.
So she pulled her hand back, leaned against the wall, and waited in the hallway.
In the old residential area, the heating in the homes was sufficient, but there was no heating in the hallway. Zhou Chengchen hadn’t been standing long before she felt her hands and feet already cold, especially her feet, feeling as if her toes had turned into ice blocks, painfully frozen.
Zhou Chengchen walked around several times without much relief, checking the time and seeing it wasn’t yet eight o’clock.
Wait a little longer, wait a little longer!
Xi Siyan had indeed slept late. After his call with Zhou Chengchen, his phone had shut down due to low battery, and he hadn’t bothered to check it, letting it charge.
He had taken a shower and lay in bed, unable to fall asleep until nearly four, when he finally drifted off, so when he opened his eyes, it was already past nine.
Even on holidays, Xi Siyan rarely got up after eight, so today was an exception.
He got up, washed his face, turned on his phone, and received a few messages—some from Zhang Yi, some from An Rui.
Zhang Yi’s messages were just about yesterday’s events, telling him not to take them to heart, but Xi Siyan didn’t pay much attention.
