"I’m certainly not going to be the one to tell her all this. When I was at my lowest, I got through it on my own. So, Yang Lanying has to get through it on her own, too. No one can be anyone else’s salvation."

Tan You closed her eyes for a moment. She thought of Yang Lanying, then of Cheng Wenhui, and finally, her thoughts strangely landed on Mrs. Wang, her most recent client.

The Beauty System captured Tan You’s current thoughts. It sat back on its hind legs, planting its two front paws rigidly in the empty air as if there were an invisible floor there.

"Host, I can’t figure it out. Why did Mrs. Wang give you a D-level personal rating? You’ve never gotten a rating like that before. It has to be the lowest one ever."

"And Liuu Wangying didn’t give you a high rating back then, either. But both of their daughters are so outstanding! One became a well-known entrepreneur, and the other became an empress. What more could they be unsatisfied with?"

The little system couldn’t figure it out, but Tan You could. "Liuu Wangying and Mrs. Wang have one thing in common. The concept they were raised on was that men were the pillars of the household, while women were to return to the family at a suitable age to support their husbands and raise their children."

"Even though they saw how outstanding their daughters were, they still felt a sense of unease and anxiety deep down. Liuu Wangying gave me a B-level rating because Liuu Min didn’t get married and have children as she had expected."

"As for Mrs. Wang giving me a D-level rating, I understand that even more. She must have been thinking, how could a woman possibly become an emperor? In her eyes, that was an act that defied the natural order, a grave heresy."

"It was practically a case of the hen crowing at dawn. She simply couldn’t accept such things in her heart."

"But what could be done? Her daughter had already become the emperor. Perhaps, in Mrs. Wang’s eyes, it was precisely because I did my job too well that when she returned, she found she had nothing in common with Chen Xi and her siblings."

"I broadened the horizons of Chen Xi and her siblings so much, giving them a perspective that Mrs. Wang, who had once lived secluded in a small mountain village, completely lacked. I’m guessing that after they realized she had returned, their relationship with Mrs. Wang was likely just so-so."

The Beauty System was surprised. "Host... How did you know?"

"It doesn’t take a genius to figure it out," Tan You sneered. "People always obsess over what they’ve lost. When I was in that world, Chen Xi would spend time alone on Mrs. Wang’s birthday every year, reminiscing about her."

"She thought she hid it well, but in that world, what could possibly escape my eyes?" Tan You chuckled. "Monarchs are always suspicious. I raised her to be a proper ruler, and in turn, she was both in awe of me and wary of me."

"So, when the time came for my exit, I had to leave without any lingering attachment. Chen Xi had already gained more than enough. I had kept her by my side and taught her meticulously, but the older that girl got, the more weighed down by her own thoughts she became."

"Rather than have her constantly second-guessing me, it was better for me to just leave. Chen Xi can’t expect me to continue caring for her so diligently while she harbors suspicions about me. That’s not fair."

The Beauty System poked her with its small paw. "Host, I don’t understand."

Tan You squeezed its little paw. "It’s okay if you don’t understand. It’s enough that I do."

In truth, the feeling of being suspected was truly awful, especially by the ’little cub’ she had raised herself. Tan You couldn’t help but sigh at the thought. The more people she met, the more Tan You realized that not everyone would trust her completely.

But this was the first time Tan You had ever been suspected and doubted by a client’s children. She had to admit, after single-mindedly planning for Mrs. Wang’s children and pouring so much of her effort into Chen Xi, this outcome left a bad taste in her mouth.

Thinking again about the D-level rating from Mrs. Wang, Tan You knew that not every client would be satisfied with her mission results. But then she thought about the 5 Intelligence Value points she had earned, and she felt that the client’s extra evaluation wasn’t something she absolutely had to have.

After all, while she had invested a lot of effort into Chen Xi, she hadn’t invested much emotion. So, being suspected and doubted didn’t truly make Tan You sad or upset.

The Beauty System was very easy to placate. It immediately brightened up at Tan You’s words, wiggling its little paws bashfully. "Host, when are you going to do another mission? You only have 8 Energy Points left."

As soon as it said that, Tan You immediately felt a sense of urgency. A single-digit amount of Energy Points was indeed a stressful sight.

Tan You smiled. "Alright, let’s draw a mission first. No rush to go to the mission world just yet. We’ll set off after the math competition preliminaries are over."

As long as Tan You was drawing a mission, the Beauty System was happy.

Seeing its eyes curve into slits, Tan You couldn’t help but smile herself. "That happy, huh?"

The Beauty System wagged its little tail furiously. "Mhm, I’m always happy with you, Host~"

Tan You chuckled. "Alright, let’s draw a mission. I remember from the last prize draw, didn’t I get something called ’A Smile Like a Blooming Flower’?"

The Beauty System said, "That’s right! Your Beauty Value is 91 now, Host. You’re a great beauty!"

Tan You was amused. "Beauty is nice and all, but... If this Beauty Value could be converted into Intelligence Value, how great would that be? Or even added to Constitution or Charisma Value, that’d be fine too."

The Beauty System weakly retorted, "That’s not possible."

Tan You already knew. "I was just saying. Why so serious?"

Despite her words, Tan You’s spiritual form had already arrived near the mission pool with the Beauty System. The mission pool was still the same old mission pool, but Tan You didn’t even glance at the beginner pool, her eyes fixed on the intermediate one.

Seeing her expression, the Beauty System’s eyes couldn’t help but curve into slits. It loved when the Host did intermediate missions because the returns were so high. The base reward for one mission was 25 points, and if she got an A-level or higher rating, the Energy Points would exceed 30.

That was enough for it to have several prize draws. Anyway, the Host charged bravely ahead while it just followed behind and raked in the rewards without lifting a finger.

At this point, Tan You really couldn’t muster much enthusiasm for beginner missions. Although she had previously said she would alternate between intermediate and beginner missions, constantly messing around in beginner worlds just didn’t feel very interesting to her.

When it came down to it, the intermediate worlds were much more eye-opening. Therefore, Tan You unhesitatingly pressed the button for an intermediate mission. Soon, a dark red orb of light, wisps of black energy floating around it, was spat out from the prize slot.

The Beauty System didn’t make a big fuss this time. It had already been through this twice, after all. Seeing this kind of soul orb, which seethed with overwhelming resentment, it was already very calm. It was a worldly-wise system now!

’Then again, the Host isn’t going to draw this type of orb every single time, is she?’

Tan You was also calm. As she picked up the soul orb, she couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow slightly. "A snake demon? How novel. What is this? The Cultivation World?"
