How would the Beauty System know? How could it know anything about the Cultivation World? All of its experience came from being with Tan You; it had never been to the Cultivation World. So when Tan You asked, it was completely clueless.

Tan You didn’t insist on getting an answer from it. She just calmed herself and examined the client’s memories. After a long while, she chuckled softly. "The cultivation method for Netherworld and the others is very simple, just absorbing moonlight. But who would have thought that for both Eastern and Western worlds, the way Magic Beasts cultivate seems to be the same?"

"They all absorb the essence of the sun and moon?"

"That’s actually quite interesting."

After finishing with the client’s memories, Tan You didn’t leave immediately. She was worried about one thing: if she went to the mission world and the cultivation took too long, what if she felt a sense of disconnect with reality when she returned?

So, Tan You figured she would wait until after Friday’s preliminary competition to go out on her mission. ’The Cultivation World... especially seeing it from the perspective of a Magic Beast... that’s definitely a fresh experience,’ Tan You thought.

’Since I’ll become a Magic Beast, I’ll have to keep my distance from Cultivators. "Those not of our kind are sure to have a different heart." That saying isn’t just for show.’ Thinking of this, Tan You couldn’t help but feel a little excited.

Perhaps she had a restless streak in her bones, always wanting to go out and have an adventure.

Friday arrived quickly. Coincidentally, Friday morning was the weekly quiz period. Since her homeroom teacher and math teacher was taking her to the city’s No. 2 High School for the math competition preliminaries, Tan You logically got to skip the two weekly quizzes that morning.

Oh, it was Politics and Geography. Tan You felt perfectly fine about skipping those two tests. She didn’t plan on studying liberal arts anyway.

The school was taking this quite seriously; for this trip to the preliminaries, the principal even contributed his private car. Li Fugui deftly started the engine. "The principal really treasures this car. He rarely lets anyone else touch it. I only get to drive it today thanks to you."

Tan You raised an eyebrow slightly. "Then I can’t let the principal down. I’ll have to try to use it a few more times in the future. Then I’ll be able to brag to people that I get to ride in the principal’s beloved car whenever I go to a competition."

Li Fugui laughed, playing along with her. "You’ll definitely pass the preliminaries. If you get through them, believe it or not, for the next first and second rounds, the principal himself will probably want to drive you."

"If you make it to the winter camp, the school will hang up a huge banner. If you’re selected for the training team, you’ll be recorded in our school’s history. As for winning a gold medal for the country... I don’t even dare to dream that far."

Tan You was also fired up by Li Fugui’s pep talk. She tapped on the car window. "Then I’ll have to work hard. I don’t want to be worse than anyone else, either."

Li Fugui smiled. "Don’t put so much pressure on yourself. Your academic grades are excellent. Even without the competition route, you’ll still get into a great university. I’ve been a teacher for seven or eight years, and you’re the most outstanding student I’ve ever met."

Tan You smiled. "I’m still a bit greedy. I used to think I was slow and never dared to dream of these things. But now, I want to allow myself to hope for the best. I want to be able to pluck the pearl from the crown."

Li Fugui was so taken aback he almost stomped on the accelerator instead of the brake. "You can do it! In any case, I can’t make heads or tails of those competition problems. Even though I teach math, I’m not a proper competition coach, after all."

Tan You said, "I know. I’ll do my best."

They chatted and laughed all the way to the city’s No. 2 High School. After parking, Li Fugui led Tan You toward the exam classroom with practiced ease. Seeing how familiar he was with the place, Tan You couldn’t help but tease him, "Did you come scout the place out beforehand?"

Li Fugui chuckled. "Of course. I came to check it out the day the admission ticket was issued. My home isn’t far from here anyway, so I just dropped by to take a look. It saves us from rushing around on the day of the exam. We don’t fight unprepared battles."

’Even though Li Fugui is always smiling and seems a bit goofy, he’s actually very reliable,’ Tan You thought. ’He’s quite thorough when he handles things.’

"You just focus on the exam. I’ll wait for you out here. Let’s just treat it as a normal day." Although he spoke comforting words to Tan You, he was actually a nervous wreck inside. He truly had no idea what Tan You’s skill level was.

’But seeing as she’s always working through those math competition problems, her level should be pretty good, right?’ Li Fugui thought, unable to shake his worry. This was his star student; how could he not be worried?

After seeing Tan You all the way to the classroom, a worried Li Fugui sat down by a small flowerbed outside the exam hall. Suddenly, a figure as sturdy as an iron tower wrapped an arm around Li Fugui’s shoulder, holding him like a little chick.

The man’s voice boomed like a great bell. "Fugui! What are you doing here? Brought your star student for the preliminaries?"

The moment Li Fugui saw him, he bristled. "Who are you calling Fugui? Let go of me! Aren’t you hot, with two grown men grabbing at each other like this?"

The man didn’t loosen his grip in the slightest. "Fugui, you’re a real fair-weather friend. How can you be so pragmatic? Come on, let’s go to the office and have a good talk..."

"I’m the one who helped register your student..."

Li Fugui had no choice and was half-forcibly dragged to the office by Old Xu.

Meanwhile, when Tan You walked into the classroom with her admission ticket, the students already seated inside couldn’t help but stare. She was a completely new face; no one had ever seen her before.

Immediately, whispers broke out, and all eyes drifted toward Tan You.

"Her skin is so fair. What school is she from?"

"I’ve never seen her before. A girl that pretty couldn’t possibly be unknown."

"Who knows? I’ve never seen her in the competition classes either..."

Tan You paid them no mind, found her seat, and sat down quietly to wait for the exam to begin.

However, the students in front of and behind her were quite enthusiastic. The two of them started talking to Tan You at once. "Hey, what school are you from? How come we’ve never seen you before? How long have you been taking competition classes? What grade are you in?"

Tan You gave a slight smile. "I’m a first-year from a township high school. Never took any competition classes. I’m purely self-taught."

"Self-taught? You dared to enter the competition just by teaching yourself? You’re really amazing!"

"I probably won’t even make it past the first round. I heard the preliminaries aren’t too hard, but the second round is supposed to be astronomically difficult," the boy behind her sighed dramatically. No matter how you looked at it, his smile was the kind that just begged to be punched.

Tan You glanced at him. "You’re like one of those students who aces every single test but then tells the class they’re definitely going to fail this time. Anyone who believes you is the one who loses."

The boy in the back seat froze for a moment, and then his smile grew even wider. The student in front of Tan You also paused before bursting into merciless laughter. "Chen Ke, look at you, always putting on an act. The new student is so sharp; she saw right through you in an instant."

Chen Ke grumbled, "I don’t usually put on an act."

Tan You smiled. "Alright, if you say so."
