She said she was going to enjoy herself, but Tan You didn’t get a chance to rest at all. Why?

Because as soon as she absorbed the original owner’s inner core, her cultivation began to skyrocket. And above her head, thick tribulation clouds rapidly gathered.

Cursing under her breath, Tan You ignored everything else. The only thing that mattered was getting through the impending Heavenly Tribulation. The original owner had been at the Nascent Soul Stage when she was backstabbed by Qing Yuan.

Over the years, Tan You had honed the original owner’s body. Although she had no inner core and could barely use her Mana, Tan You had found an unconventional way to store it in every fiber of her being. Now that the inner core had returned, she felt her cultivation surging, impossible to suppress.

As she watched her cultivation advance triumphantly from the Early-stage Nascent Soul to the Mid-stage, and then to the Late-stage, Tan You felt exhausted. Seeing the tribulation thunder overhead growing more intense, she forcefully compressed her cultivation, barely managing to hold it at the Peak of Nascent Soul. At that point, she was only a single step away from Divinity Transformation.

’This is awful,’ Tan You thought, but she couldn’t tell a soul. If she broke through to the Divinity Transformation Stage now, she would have to face the three tribulations of the Nascent Soul Stage on top of the tribulation for the Divinity Transformation Stage. Even with her powerful body, she couldn’t possibly withstand the combined force of so many Heavenly Tribulations.

The tribulation thunder rumbled across the sky, threatening to incinerate everything beneath it. Tan You tilted her head back to look at the storm so close it felt like she could touch it. Silver lightning churned within the clouds, ready to shatter the world to pieces.

With a single thought, the silver-robed cultivator vanished. In her place appeared an enormous Silver Ring Snake. Its body was pure silver-white, and the six silver rings around its neck glinted brightly. The serpent raised its head high, as if issuing a challenge to the tribulation thunder in the clouds.

A bolt of silver lightning suddenly flashed. Accompanied by a deafening RUMBLE, it struck Tan You’s body with brutal force. Being struck by lightning was, of course, agonizing, but Tan You had to endure it. She could not dodge.

She had always lived by one principle: fortune favors the bold. No matter the obstacle, she would simply crush her way through it, never backing down.

Enduring the three Heavenly Tribulations of the Nascent Soul Stage all at once would be fatal for almost any demonic beast. For a creature like the Purple Ring Snake, which had an extraordinary lineage and possessed the inherited memories of an ancient Great Demon, advancing to the next stage was exceptionally difficult.

Indeed, after she had reclaimed her inner core but before the tribulation began, inherited techniques had surfaced in her mind. She also learned that the Purple Ring Snake species actually carried a trace of the bloodline of the ancient Great Demon, the Golden Ring Snake. But becoming a Golden Ring Snake was an incredibly difficult feat.

After all, just evolving from a Purple Ring Snake to a Silver Ring Snake was already extremely difficult, to say nothing of a Golden Ring Snake.

Any creature with even a trace of an ancient bloodline faced immense hardship in their growth. Tan You threw her head back and let out a long, piercing hiss, her ferocious fangs glinting coldly. There was no other reason for it—the pain was simply too much.

After the final bolt of Heavenly Thunder struck, the Silver Ring Snake was almost completely covered in blood. Her wounds were healing far slower than the Heavenly Thunder could inflict them. Tan You herself was on the brink of death. If not for the spiritual rain that began to fall from the sky, anyone would have assumed she had perished in the Heavenly Tribulation.

As the spiritual rain began to fall, Tan You used her last ounce of strength to expand her body to its maximum size, allowing every inch to be drenched. As the rain fell, new flesh rapidly grew over her mangled wounds, and her scales regenerated far tougher than before.

Tan You lay on her back at the bottom of the valley that the tribulation had carved out, savoring the nourishing spiritual rain. She couldn’t help but roll over contentedly. Just as she did, a small, black-and-gold figure suddenly darted out. Tan You opened her mouth, and a small whirlwind shot out, pulling the little creature right in front of her.

"Huanhuan, it’s me." The little creature wasn’t flustered at all. It even did a playful roll inside the whirlwind before landing in front of Tan You and giving her a respectful bow.

"It’s you. You dare to come to a place that just had a Heavenly Tribulation?" Tan You glanced at it. They were old acquaintances, of a sort. Her God Trapping Array was nearly impossible to enter or exit, yet this little creature was immune to all arrays and had come and gone as it pleased several times.

The little mouse had even made off with a few of the inner cores from the demonic beasts killed by the God Trapping Array.

Tan You hadn’t bothered to look for it after she was freed, as she saw it as no threat and possessing little combat strength. But she did get a slight headache whenever it called her Huanhuan. The name reminded her of a big, fat, orange cat.

The little mouse sat down obediently and even began to openly bask in Tan You’s spiritual rain. "I knew there would be benefits to following you, Huanhuan," it said. "I was hiding far away. I only came over once I knew you were done with your Heavenly Tribulation."

Tan You didn’t mind it soaking up her spiritual rain. She couldn’t absorb this much on her own anyway.

"This is already the middle ring of the forest. Aren’t you afraid coming here will be a one-way trip?" Tan You asked, lying on her back in the valley and chatting idly with the little creature as she bathed in the spiritual rain.

"Not afraid," the little mouse with four golden paws said smugly. "I can go anywhere I please, as long as I don’t touch another demonic beast’s things."

Tan You smiled. "You’ve never shown yourself to me before. Why the sudden appearance? What do you want?"

As she spoke, the six silver rings on her neck began to shine even more brightly, showing faint hints of turning gold.

The little mouse took a deep breath. "I wanted to ask... would you be willing to form a contract with me? A symbiotic contract."

Tan You paused. In the next instant, the enormous, sky-blotting Silver Ring Snake vanished, and the silver-robed cultivator reappeared at the bottom of the valley. She scooped up the little mouse, formed a hand seal, and instantly left the deep crater.

"A symbiotic contract?" Tan You hadn’t known what that was before, but she understood now, thanks to her inherited memories. It was a contract where familiar demonic beasts helped each other.

Usually, the two parties were complementary. For instance, a squishy one would partner with a tank. It was obvious what the little mouse was planning. It had its eye on Tan You’s incredible durability, hoping she could help it endure its own Heavenly Tribulations.

"Then I’d be getting the short end of the stick," Tan You said, not giving in so easily. ’If you get something too easily, you don’t value it. This little thing is the one asking me for a favor, so what’s the rush?’

The little mouse grew anxious. "This mouse is very useful! This mouse is a treasure-hunting mouse!"

Tan You gave it a critical look. "You only have a *trace* of the treasure-hunting mouse bloodline. To purify it, how many Heavenly Tribulations would I have to take for you? I’d be the one suffering while you just coast along and reap all the benefits?"

"Besides, I’m not that interested in treasure. What I want most is to become stronger myself."

The little mouse fidgeted with its paws, clearly realizing that it stood to gain far more from the deal than Tan You. It tried hard to think of its other good qualities, but after racking its brain, it seemed its only real skill was finding treasure.

But that was the one thing Tan You didn’t need. The little mouse was stumped. *He who has no desires is strong.* The little mouse had never understood that phrase before, but facing Tan You now, it suddenly got it.
