Half an hour earlier.

While Adam was acknowledging his master for the first time, the three elites he had defeated and humiliated were receiving treatments at the healing section of the admission block.

Their conditions weren’t too serious, but the damage was severe. Adam had done a number to their jaws and heads with his slap more than any other assault he had dealt them. Among all the applicants who got injured during the Survival Trial, they had it the worst.

Within the healing section were their guardians, as their parents were too busy or too high profile to make an appearance simply for their admission tests. These guardians, having already taken care of the admission papers, were waiting to take their young lords and young lady home.

They all had solemn expressions on their faces, as they were still in disbelief that some unknown boy could do that to their young lords. Although they were not necessarily looking down on Adam, they knew their young lords very well.

They had seen them train since birth, giving their all to learning everything they could before they awakened. Even they could not compare to their dedication when they were young.

Watching the horrid and aggrieved expressions on the faces of their young lords and lady as they silently lay there receiving treatment pulled at their heartstrings. How could they not know what they were going through?

"They should be fine now." The healer spoke to the guardians after completing her rounds. "There is no lasting damage, so there shouldn’t be any problems."

"Thank you."

As soon as the healer closed the door behind her, Ryner spoke, staring intently at the white ceiling, gritting his teeth. "I don’t know about you guys, but I’m not letting that bastard off the hook. He’s going to pay dearly for humiliating me!"

The golden-haired boy sat up, sitting at the edge of his bed as he stared at the other two. Derek had a blank expression on his face, seemingly inattentive to his surroundings. While Riley lay on her bed with her eyes closed. Her brows were creased in what her guardian recognised as her way of expressing her displeasure and silent anger.

"What’s even the point?" Derek questioned blankly. "He’s far stronger and more skilled than any of us."

"Tsk! You’re pathetic." Ryner snorted as he looked away furiously. "Breaking down with just one defeat. So much for the master of poison."

"Then what do you suggest?" Derek finally turned to look at the golden-haired boy. "Going after him head-on will only lead to more hu- more hu-" he could not bring himself to finish the sentence.

"Don’t you think his skills are way too polished for someone our age?" Riley spoke, opening her eyes and looking at the two boys.

"Now that you mention it..." Ryner frowned as the realisation slowly dawned on him.

When he fought the bastard, it felt like he was fighting someone with far more experience than he had. The way he had read his moves and countered them felt too polished. It was something that should have been impossible, even if he was a genius.

Ryner refused to believe that some no-name was that monstrous without the kind of backing he had. As soon as the thought settled, his eyes widened and furrowed in tandem.

"Do you think someone is secretly behind him?" He asked.

"Hmm... that’s possible, but unlikely." Derek could not see how. "There’s only so much one could deduce from a person without first awakening, even if said person displayed impressive combat acumen."

"I don’t think so," Riley chipped in as she rose to her feet, approaching the window. She leaned on the frame, crossed her arms over her chest and stared outside. "He chose the highest tier of the second class type. And I think he scored the highest in the written test as well."

"What?" Ryner shot to his feet, disbelief in his eyes. "He chose the same class type as you and even scored the highest?!"

The golden-haired boy could not believe his ears. Riley was one of the smartest people he had met, excluding that guy from the Spencer family, of course. He looked at his guardian, who nodded in confirmation.

"Unbelievable..." The boy sat back down, drained of energy. Adam was truly a monster. "Where the hell did he come from?" It was a difficult reality for him to accept.

Riley wanted answers too. As she stared outside, her mind went back to the words she said to Adam, a wave of embarrassment hitting her out of nowhere. She silently clenched her fists and gritted her teeth.

No matter what, she would regain her honour. There was no way she would let that humiliation slide. But it was going to be difficult, given that Adam had all the advantages in strength and skill.

She didn’t know her overall rank, and she didn’t want to find out. In her eyes, that guy did not count, as he did not choose the same class type as her.

"Still..."

Ryner’s grudge-filled voice pulled her out of her thoughts. She looked at him and thought to herself. ’He’s definitely going to do something foolish.’

It wasn’t a maybe; it was a certainty.

Ryner was the type who refused to acknowledge anyone not in their social circle. She just hoped he wouldn’t do anything too stupid. After all, she planned on surpassing that bastard on her own terms. Underhanded tactics were not her thing.

"...that Adam is gonna pay." Ryner continued, clenching his fists. He raised his head and met Derek’s gaze, the two exchanging a nod.

Derek was not as explosive as Ryner, but he could be cruel if he wanted to. He was simply someone who presented a reasonable front in public.

The two boys had no intention of including Riley, as they knew her personality well. As for what they planned to do, only time would tell.

The guardians in the room exchanged glances but said nothing. It was not their place to question the young lords and the young lady. Their job was to make sure their needs were taken care of; nothing more, nothing less.

Riley’s guardian stepped forward and spoke, "Young Miss, it’s time to return. Your admission process is already taken care of."

Riley glanced at her guardian and nodded. She stepped away from the window, waved at the two boys and left with her guardian. She had a lot to do if she wished to surpass Adam. There was no place for distraction in her schedule. It was unfortunate that she would not get that storage ring.

"So what do you have in mind?" Derek turned to Ryner as soon as Riley disappeared.

"There’s no rush..." Ryner flashed a sinister smile. "...we have plenty of time. We just have to make sure that April is nowhere near him."
