Adam and Jon soon arrived at the first-year dormitories, his father helping him with his luggage. He spotted a few other prospective students who had also chosen to stay on academy grounds instead of taking the given three-day grace period.
The first year dormitories had four main storey buildings, massive beyond measure. Each building catered for the different admission groups, making a total of 2000 students for just the first years. The grounds were expansive, allowing for spacious courtyards around the four buildings.
Adam marvelled at the sight. He could not imagine the resources that had gone into putting up such dormitories, not to mention the entire academy. He had not seen the entire academy, but he could only imagine how enormous it was.
After taking care of the required paperwork, he and his father took the elevator to the highest floor, which was the tenth one. His father did not linger too long, only inspecting his assigned room, passing him a few valuables he would need for his first three months before taking his leave.
He also passed the SUV to Adam, a gift he got him for his sixteenth birthday and awakening. It had proven to be a good idea, as the academy was simply too massive. Commuting from the academy to the city would have been challenging otherwise.
For a sixteen-year-old, an SUV would have been the last thing he would have ever thought of getting as a personal ride. But it was still a gift he appreciated, its sleek and sporty design making up for it. And, of course, it would be his very first vehicle.
Finally left alone, Adam took his sweet time to admire his room, grinning like an idiot.
As one of the top-performing applicants, his room was extra spacious. Adam stood with his back to the door as he took in the room. The room had a raised dais where a large single bed lay.
He had no complaints, as his own bed back home was smaller. And it wasn’t like he would be sharing it with anyone, anytime soon, for that matter. To the right side of the bed was a wide window with dark curtains drawn. And in the corner leading to that window was a closet for his clothes.
On the left side of the bed was a study desk with a computer already set up. Adam appreciated the tech, as it would make research and studies a lot easier for him. Games were also not off the table.
In the middle of the room where he stood was a spacious area that could be used for light training and cultivating. A few meters to the left side of this spacious middle area was a sofa set; one singular and one double that was capable of fitting three comfortably.
Beside the double sofa was a side table with a booklet. Adam intended to look at it later. The walls of the room were chalk white, giving it a calm, airy and soft vibe. A few abstract artworks decorated the walls, but meant little to him.
He was not an art person to begin with, but still, he appreciated the aesthetics and substance it added to the room. The paint choice was perfect for a guy like him. Bright colours were for girls, and anyone who said otherwise was...
Adam chuckled and shook his head silly. He rushed past the sofas and opened the door that led to the bathroom. It had all the essentials and enough room to do what needed to be done. With an appreciative nod, he closed the door.
He then moved to the bed to get his clothes into the closet. He considered storing some of his clothes in his storage space, but ultimately decided against it.
Once he took care of that, he went to the bathroom.
An hour later, he stepped out clean and refreshed. With no plans to step out to explore, Adam chose a white T-shirt over grey sweatpants. He jumped onto the bed and sighed, thankful everything was taken care of.
It had been a stressful two days. The written test had been the easiest thing he had done since coming to Academic City. He finally understood how stressful being an explorer was.
’To think that is what Dad does...’ he thought silently, staring blankly at the white ceiling. ’Running out of supplies should never be an option.’ He made a mental note to go shopping within this three-day grace period.
Grabbing his phone, he scrolled through the many messages he had received from his friends and mother. After taking some time to respond to their inquiries and telling his mom everything went well, he tossed the phone aside and closed his eyes.
’And Mr Princeton really wants me as a disciple, hehe.’ His mind naturally drifted to his conversation with the vice-principal. ’I never thought I would one day have a master willing to teach me what they know.’
Adam flashed a small smile, but did not open his eyes. It somehow felt strange. The fact that Mr Princeton had taken him as his disciple despite what he did to those elite heirs spoke volumes about his background.
The man was not afraid to offend anyone. He wondered what the vice-principal’s background was. The man was the strongest person he had seen in his life. Breaking through that realm, as far as he knew, was not that easy.
’Haa... I’ll find out eventually.’
Adam opened his eyes as something else drew his attention: his fight with the elite heirs. He felt that his understanding of the lightning element had reached a sufficient level to allow him to recreate it.
He brought up his status screen to check his Knowledge Indexes, only to pause in momentary surprise. "My stats increased!"
Abruptly sitting up, Adam compared the increase with what he had initially awakened with. He hadn’t actively cultivated since his awakening, as he had not developed his cultivation technique yet.

"Cool... Although it’s not much, it’s more than what others have." He could not help but smile to himself. "And it seems the increments are related to what I went through during the second trial."
Satisfied with seeing his increased stat, he navigated to the Knowledge Indexes to check his progress, and as he expected, his understanding of lightning/electricity had increased.
He checked the others and saw improvements in his other areas like Biological, Chemical, and Combat. As for the other areas, he had nothing much to show for it. But he was in no rush; he had all the time in the world.
Adam lay back down and sighed, closing his eyes for a much-needed rest. The increment in his stats had brought a smile to his face, but not enough to rob him of his sleep. Although the sun was still up, his mind needed the rest.
After struggling for half an hour, he finally drifted off to sleep.
