Who Designed This Underworld Dungeon?

Chapter 1701 - 1010: Chaos Unleashed

"Ugh, mmgh..."

Dorian let out a groan that sounded like a hangover headache, forced his exhausted eyes open, and realized he was lying in a damp wooden hut, with the sound of waves in his ears.

It took him only a second to guess where he was: this was the Deep Sea Tribe.

"Just now I... tsk, my head hurts so bad..."

The headache twisted his facial expression out of shape, which somehow made him look more normal than before.

Memories kept surfacing in his mind as he recalled what he had been doing.

The sneak attack on Onora, the burning Great Demon Tree, the burning Great Demon City, the flood surging through the whole city...

He remembered everything, and finally let out a bitter laugh, muttering to himself:

"At the very beginning I just wanted to ambush the High Priest and throw in some Spiritual Control while I was at it, how did it turn into this, sigh."

He started sighing nonstop the moment he woke up, enough to make anyone listening feel their will to live draining away.

If he could, he really hadn’t wanted to blow things up this big, but what now? Both the Great Demon Tree and the Great Demon City had been burned down. Even though he hadn’t seen the end, he could easily guess: there was no way Mad Fire would stop before the Great Demon City was scorched into a wasteland.

The longest-standing tree and Ancient City in Demon Clan history had been wiped out by his own hand!

He’d just made himself into a sinner for the ages!

All Onora’s fault!

"Yeah, it’s all that woman’s fault."

After completing a whole chain of reasoning in his head that, to him, seemed perfectly airtight, Dorian let his heart—which had been up in his throat—drop back down into his gut, and immediately felt like his mood had opened up into clear, boundless skies.

But what should he do next?

At the end of his memories, Onora had left the Great Demon City riding a Demon Dragon. She had definitely survived; he just didn’t know where she’d gone.

So the future outcome was easy to predict: Onora would definitely pin all the blame on him, then swiftly consolidate Demon Clan forces to crazily hunt him down across the entire continent. Once he was caught, he’d be looking at an ending of being sliced into thousands of pieces.

The future is so full of Horror!

Cold sweat trickled down Dorian’s forehead.

"Mad Fire God, please watch over me."

He silently uttered a prayer for the God’s protection. Even after facing such a major upheaval, the devotion in his eyes hadn’t dimmed in the slightest.

Simply because, at the moment the Great Demon Tree went up in flames, he had felt the presence of the Mad Fire God with piercing clarity. The God had responded to his soaring spirit, letting him briefly gain enough power to rival Onora. Didn’t that prove that the Mad Fire God was watching him, caring for him, favoring him?

Absolutely, easily, yes!

In that case he still had every chance to quietly slip off this continent, return to Scameroon and his little brother Todd to keep living a carefree life. He could totally dodge the "sliced into thousands of pieces" bad end and enjoy the rest of his life at leisure.

But that would be the thinking of trash!

How could he possibly give up spreading the gospel of Mad Fire just because of a minor setback like Onora?!

That would be way too lazy. He had to be diligent, diligent, and more diligent!

"I’m staying!"

Dorian clawed wildly at his own cheeks, emotion surging as he let out hoarse "roar roar roar" noises from his throat.

"Knock knock knock, Lord Dorian, are you awake? I think I heard something," Shark’s voice came from outside the door.

"I’m awake, come in."

He instantly switched to a normal expression, and when Shark came in and saw him safe and sound, he finally let out a long breath and said:

"Thank the God, good thing you’re all right. Otherwise I’d have no idea how to explain things to Lady Onora."

This kid still didn’t seem to know that the mess in the Great Demon City was his doing.

Dorian’s eyes rolled, and he asked, "What happened? My memory’s a bit fuzzy. Why am I here?"

"Ah, talking about it, it was practically like a natural disaster."

Shark immediately put on a terrified expression.

"The Great Demon Tree and Great Demon City suddenly just went up in flames, burned out of nowhere. Everything got scorched clean, the nobles all went crazy, and in the end they opened the floodgates and drowned the whole city. But the fire didn’t even shrink a tiny bit—tell me that’s not a sin!"

As he spoke he kept shaking his head, sighing, and waving his hands, looking like the world was beyond saving, clearly feeling a lot of regret and heartache over the Great Demon Tree.

"What on earth was that? Don’t tell me the temperature this summer got so high that the Great Demon Tree just caught fire. That doesn’t sound right."

From his nonstop rambling that followed, Dorian more or less pieced it together.

Four days had passed since the Great Demon Tree started burning; he’d been unconscious for four days, and it was Shark who had saved him.

In four days, that huge tree still hadn’t been completely burned out, and the firefighting units were still rushing toward it. High Priest Onora hadn’t made any moves yet, and the surrounding area had turned into a Life-forbidden zone where no living person could enter, so Shark and the others had had no choice but to return to their own tribe.

Which meant that no one yet knew that the culprit behind all of this was Dorian!

Good, that was good. At the very least, it meant he still had some time to prepare.

"What really puzzles me is, the river around the Great Demon City had never shown its violent side before, so why did it suddenly act like a tsunami that night?"

Shark kept venting about every unreasonable detail he could think of.

"..."

Hearing that, Dorian suddenly fell silent.
