Who Designed This Underworld Dungeon?
Chapter 1714 - 1016: The Gathering PlaceLeon stared at the Dark Ring in the sky, dazed for quite a while.
The sky was so oppressive it seemed on the verge of collapse, and the presence of the Dark Ring made the already uncomfortable sky even more unsettling.
He never imagined he would one day see a Dark Ring the size of the Sun; the sky had no other celestial bodies visible, only this eerie thing remained.
The massive words "Gathering Place" hadn’t faded, and although he recognized the letters, he still wanted to say:
"Where on earth is this?"
No matter how Leon looked up, he couldn’t see a trace of the bridge where he had fought fiercely with the Dragon Hunter Armor; there was only blood-red sky and the Dark Ring, along with scattered ashes drifting down.
What’s going on?
Is this still Losric?
Where did the whole Losrik City go?
Indeed, he had fallen from the bridge, having been inexplicably swatted down by the Dragon Hunter Armor that suddenly lost its mind, expecting at most to die like that classic cliff-fall Steel Giant Puppet maneuver, yet he found himself in this strange place known as the Gathering Place.
Could this be beneath Losrik City? No, judging by the geography, beneath Losrik City should be the Fran Pit, no, the Fran Fort actually, and there shouldn’t be any void space under the Fran Fort for him to fall into.
Logically speaking, he should have plunged straight into the toxic sewage of Fran Fort.
Not ended up in an unheard-of place, utterly baffled.
"This scene still feels eerily familiar."
It’s as if he often found himself teleporting to some inexplicably strange places while in the Sain Dungeon; when you’ve encountered such experiences enough times, indeed one should become accustom...
"Absolutely can’t get used to it!"
Leon jumped from the ground, but whether it was too much force or his armor weighed him down, his leg sunk deeply into the ashes below, looking for all intents and purposes like he had turned into a Dwarf Clan member.
Appearing leek-like, Leon finally calmed down, surveying his surroundings, and found himself deep in contemplation.
Because this place seemed... too rich in fantasy elements.
No matter who you are, standing in a place covered all in thick ashes and a mishmash of architectural styles from varying eras, you will surely sense the fantasy vibe, not to mention the damn huge Dark Ring hanging in the sky; it’s pure art!
Touching the ashes with his fingertips felt purely cold, unlike the ashes from the Initial Firestove that retain warmth; the chill in the ashes evoked a sense of distant past, and vanished warmth.
Looking up, what he saw was a pile of buildings growing out from the ash heaps, or more poetically, a vast garbage dump made from numerous eras’ dead remnants crudely sewn together, with many recognizable elements.
Like the very pointed tower of Losrik City he just saw, the Minotaur statue from Sain Ancient City, and crumbling walls from the Deep Church... these various structures made his head spin.
Elderly’s half-coffin intersected with Yanor Londo’s house, Yilushier-style buildings collided with Duke’s Library, and barely recognizable but likely giant tomb underground caves entwined with Izaris’ tree roots, plus many more structures Leon couldn’t assess which sides they belonged to.
The entire medley speaks volumes.
But despite the abundance of styles in these buildings, it didn’t appear chaotic, as the ashes were just too plentiful, covering most structures with a grey-white blanket and leaving only their tips exposed.
Coupled with the strangely hued sky, a powerful aura of...
"Feels like the apocalypse."
A strong post-apocalyptic feeling resonated around.
Looking around, no ancient figures in front, no people arriving from behind, not even a monster’s shadow visible; though frequent loneliness was felt in Sain Dungeon, here in the Gathering Place, this sense of solitary isolation was greatly amplified, even infecting someone as bright and cheerful as Leon, flattening his expressions.
No residual shadow to introduce the subplot background, Leon found himself utterly blank in super bewilderment.
"Can I still go back? There’s basically no way back, right?"
Leon took out the Return Bone Fragment, capable of returning him to the bonfire, but hesitated moments before crushing it.
If he returned now, could he come back again?
The Gathering Place didn’t seem reachable through exploration; just falling off Losrik City’s bridge brings you here? He doubted it might not be an assured choice leading here each time.
After pondering, Leon finally sighed.
"Let’s find the bonfire first; consider returning after locating the bonfire."
If discovering a bonfire here proves futile, then consider employing the Return Bone Fragment or Return to Hometown for a getaway.
Thus, Leon treaded heavily, stapping one foot deep into the stacked ashes, instinctively moving forward.
