The hotel room was filled thick with steam and the faint scent of hotel soap. Soft golden lamplight spilled across rumpled sheets and clothes scattered everywhere.

In the far corner, lounging against the headboard in nothing but an oversized white shirt that barely reached her thighs, sat a woman with a lazy, knowing smile.

The loose fabric hung off one shoulder, exposing the smooth curve of her collarbone and the soft swell of a breast. Her legs were drawn up casually, the hem was high enough to reveal the bare line of her hip as she toyed with the edge of the shirt while she spoke.

"I honestly believe that Maeve... is going to have the most difficult time out of all of us," she murmured.

A quiet chuckle came from the woman standing near the bed.

She was in the middle of dressing.

Long, sleek black hair cascaded down her back. Her fair skin glowed under the warm light. She slowly buttoned her crisp white shirt, leaving the top several buttons deliberately undone, revealing the valley between her full breasts and the delicate lace edge of a black bra. The dark blue pants she wore clung to her toned legs.

She glanced over her shoulder. She had light grey eyes that were sharp and amused.

"You say that like you’re not looking forward to watching me struggle."

"Honestly...there are THOUSANDS of over-their-heads young masters in this world, but to be assigned to Marcellus?" the woman on the bed spoke.

"Please, at least he does not rape and kill every second woman he sees, and then again, every man who has only ever lived in luxury will have some nasty and lazy habits developed, and that’s sort of inevitable," Maeve replied.

From the bathroom, the third woman finally stepped out, towel-drying her hair. She was completely naked, water still traced her skin down her curves as she listened quietly, walking towards her clothes on the bed.

She bent over to take the flip flops that she had taken off in her hands, and gave a clear view her ass to both of the women which they certainly did not miss.

Maeve shook her head and started fixing her cuffs.

"Do you know what the guys in militia of Severan call him?" the woman asked staring at Maeve’s reflection in the mirror.

"Marcellus the Merciless."

Maeve stopped fixing her cuffs and looked back.

"That is just so...cringe."

"Cringe or not the name fits...I wouldn’t expect rumours to be different considering his history," the woman continued.

"You cannot expect someone who murdered his own brother, and destroyed families to be sane," she said.

"..." Maeve did not comment anything to that. She wanted to stay positive.

"You lot should be motivating with positivity, it’s my first day, and look," Maeve said spreading her arms.

"Despite the rumours, its because of him I’m having an opportunity to attend the academy," she said.

"Well, that’s a plus point."

The woman in the oversized shirt licked her lips, and leaned forward as the shirt slipped higher up her thighs, "Wait... you’re not thinking of being a handler for his little handle are you, hmm?"

"Goodness!" Maeve groaned, rolling her eyes, picked up her phone with a white silicon case, and connected her earpiece.

"You know what...I kinda hate you for your non-sensical advices," she said, and slammed the door shut after exiting the room.

"Ugh!" She grunted, and took a deep breath to calm herself, and fixed her hair again.

’MARCELLUS! MARCELLUS! MARCELLUS!’ She screamed that name in her thoughts.

Maeve was recruited as an awakener at a really young age.

She’s been under the care of Severan family, because her powers showed promises.

It’s been a whole month since she received the letter of assignment, which did not even ask for her permission, and assigned Marcellus Severan under her care.

’Freaking heirs, they have it way too easy,’ She groaned in her thoughts as she took a private lift leading to Marcellus’s floor.

Maeve stepped out of the private elevator.

The corridor was exceptionally silent.

Only one suit occupied the entire floor.

She instinctively straightened the collar of her navy jacket before realizing she’d already done it three times since entering the lift.

She let out a slow breath.

"Professional." She murmured.

That was what her instructors drilled within their thoughts.

A personal attendant represented not only herself, but the Severan Household Division.

No matter the temperament of the master, not matter the circumstances, always maintain composure, etiquette.

She quietly recited the assignment briefing, staring at her phone screen’s email notification.

She had served executives before, and accompanied senior awakeners on operations, but none of them compared to the future head of Severan Military Group.

She stopped before the suite door.

"..."

"Good morning, Young Master." She murmured.

Too stiff, won’t work.

She tried again.

"Good morning, Youn Master. My name is Maeve. I have been assigned as your personal attendant from today onward."

Sounds better, and much more professional.

She nodded to herself.

Then paused... "Does he shake hands?"

Probably not.

She reached for her phone and checked information again.

There were no dietary restrictions, no medical concerns, no personal preferences listed.

’How can someone’s file be so empty?’ she thought.

Maeve exhaled once more.

She adjusted her earpiece, raised her hand and...knocked the bell button.

*Ting*

A soothing sound resounded from the other side of the gate.

But there was no answer.

She waited, and waited for moments.

Still nothing.

"..."

She fetched a keycard from her pocket, and stared at it in her hand for a long moment.

’Please don’t let my first day start with paperwork...’ She thought.

*Beep*

The card touched the reader.

The lock disengaged with a green light, and Maeve pushed the door open.

"Good Morning Yo---What the fuck..." She was left in shock.

The scent reached her before any perfume would. A thick metallic sweetness that clung the back of her throat.

The world had lost its sound for her.

The walls, the mirror on the ceiling, the bed, the floor, everything was covered in dark red.

Blood had dried in uneven streaks where it had flowed between wooden panels.

Her eyes instinctively looked at the two women laying motionless upon the bed. Thin crimson cuts crossing all over their skin.

And then only did she saw him, Marcellus Severan.

He sat sprawled on a cushion dragged across the bloody floor, wearing nothing but a black hotel robe that hung completely open. His body was completely clean, with not a single drop of blood.

Broad shoulders, defined chest and abs, and between his legs rested heavily against his thigh was a rather thick and heavy cock. His one hand held two phones, the other held a third as his thumb lazily scrolled on the screen.

He slowly lifted his gaze from the screen and their eyes met.

It was an intimidating sight.

"..."

Neither of them said anything.

Her pupils trembled, her heart panicked and the scent became unbearable as her stomach lurched.

She threw a hand over her mouth, stumbling backward until her shoulder struck the wall.

"Ngh---" She turned away just in time, and vomited on the polished wooden floor near the entrance.

Marcellus watched her with confusion and mild interest. She was the first living person he has met in this completely unknown environment.

"Are you alright?" he asked.

Although his question was backed with complete sincerity, Maeve looked at him with wide eyes.

"..."

’AM I ALRIGHT??’ she was barely containing her thoughts.

"You’ve probably never seen a homicide before." He said.

’Yeah, no shit I have not!’
