It took Maeve nearly ten minutes before her breathing steadied enough to think clearly again.

By then, the room had become a crime scene instead of a nightmare.

She had contacted hotel security. Internal Severan personnel had been notified under emergency, every entrance to the floor had been sealed, and the young man who should have been the lease composed person in the room was just standing casually beside her.

Marcellus had not spoken a single word since then, and nobody questioned or blamed him of a homicide either.

Which gave him an idea of how high his position in this world’s hierarchy is.

Maeve looked at him, who was standing with his robe still open, arms crossed and observing the personals carefully securing the bodies and crime scene while they stood outside the hotel room.

She opened her full screen flip phone, still avoiding looking at the bed.

"...Young Master Marcellus Severan?"

He looked down at her.

"I assume that would be me."

"..."

"Who might you be?" he asked.

"Maeve Eira. Y-Your personal assistant. I was assigned to you just recently, this is my first day," she said, swallowing hard.

"First day huh?" he repeated.

’Atleast this gives me room to establish a more definite understanding of this world,’ he thought.

He looked at her, although a little terrified, she was far from average by his standards. Long black hair, striking grey eyes, full breasts against half-buttoned white shirt. She was a beautiful woman wrapped in professionalism.

Marcellus was a young man in his past life, he did not age past twenty five before facing his death.

"I understand the situation you found me is rather questioning, and I also understand that people working here clearly suspect me of these murders," he said.

"But I did not kill them," he said, leaned in close to her and pointed at the crime scene.

"Blood splattered in such precise arcs can either be made by a dagger or a fine sword, but the wounds on those women speak of a different story,"

"Their wounds are precise, shallow, and thin. Despite the amount of blood you see sprayed across the room, their blood managed to clog the cuts before they could bleed to death. These women died of the same cut on their neck and eyes,"

"I am neither proficient in a sword, or a dagger. Threads however are something only a puppeteer would master. If you were to ignore circumstantial evidence, there is no way to prove that I am a killer."

Maeve looked at him in silence.

’This wasn’t in the briefing,’ she thought.

She had memorized a whole file on Marcellus before receiving the assignment. His temperament, his habits, his known associates, his disciplinary record.

He wasn’t trying to prove his innocence, neither was he asking who had done it. Infact he studied the scene while the scene like a forensic expert.

One of the forensic examiners briefly looked towards Marcellus before returning to the bodies.

"For now, ask the family of these women if they want to proceed with Forensic analysis, and compensate them for their loss." Marcellus said straightening himself up.

"Oh—alrig-"

"Hold on!" He stopped her as if he just thought of something.

’The call of threat, the position of a heir, the current situation suggests that I’m in a succession war or something like that...’ he thought.

"Make up a story, and convince the families that their bodies had been damaged beyond recognition or even better, delay informing them until the forensic examination is complete. Run a forensic analysis either way," he said.

She looked at him in shock once again.

"As for my involvement," he thought for a moment. "Keep my name out of any report."

"Wh..Why? At least the family should be aware of what conspired right?" she asked, hesitantly.

"Whoever arranged this expected a reaction of either panic or maybe complete silence. And for now, I’ll choose the second option," he replied.

"Should I notify the chairman?" Maeve asked.

’Who’s that?’ he thought.

"Nobody, Maeve." He said.

As Maeve stepped away to relay the instructions, Marcellus’s attention returned to the room.

He had learned a big deal about this world from the phone.

A certain percentage of population is born with a core in their bodies. The core corresponds to the development of minds, that’s why it aligns with the personality of the person.

There are potential ranks given to each core from birth. And actual ranks that suggest continuous growth.

But this isn’t something that’s been passed down through ages. Cores started appearing when the first portal appeared. Unlike portals that fantasy authors suggested they would be, these were portals gateway to a complete another dimension where civilizations exist.

A major number of such portals are currently under the Severan Group, and this group consists of one Main family, the family of head. And several branch families.

This situation was clearly unbelievable.

And he did not know if people could see this silent window floating in front of him.

It was as if it had a mind of its own, and would give space to him whenever he needed to see past it.

Earlier it was in the process of booting. And now it’s in the process of initialization.

[Initializing]

’Initializing what?’ he questioned within his thoughts.

"Young Master," Maeve approached him again, and stood at some distance.

"The preliminary examination has been completed, I’ve informed the investigators, a copy of the report will be available to us as soon as possible," she said.

"Alright," he nodded.

"But Maeve...Maeve is it?" he asked to confirm her name.

"Yes."

"Am I scary or horrible for people, especially women to be avoiding eye contact with me," he asked.

"Uh..." Maeve hesitated.

Then she stepped directly in front of him, reached out, and grabbed the two ribbons of his robe. With a quick tug, she pulled them closed, tying them neatly.

"...You’ve been showing off your naked body all this time." Then she patted the knot once out of habit.

"..."

"And please...you cannot leave for the academy looking like this, your flight’s scheduled to leave in an hour," she said.

"...Flight?" he murmured.
