Why Are the Psychos Obsessed with a Mere NPC?

Chapter 172 - 171: Processed for Withdrawal

BANG!

Jian Yu dodged on instinct, her back pressing against the nearby wall.

A crack split the floor where a thrown vial had shattered, sending shards flying.

The flickering light from her Star Brain illuminated Jian Yu’s face.

An intoxicating fragrance slowly spread through the air, mingled with the scent of a low-quality chemical.

Jian Yu held her breath.

The Purple Fog surged from her body like a tide, forming a protective barrier that enveloped her completely.

She was too tired to hold it for long.

She took a shallow breath. No reaction.

She took another. Aside from a bit of mental aversion, she felt no discomfort.

Jian Yu blinked and activated the camera on her Star Brain.

A familiar voice echoed through the lab.

"I’d advise you not to call for help. I don’t think you’d want anyone to see what’s about to happen."

The man’s breathing was heavy and erratic, laced with an unnatural, ragged tremor.

"I know you’re a Level 3S, but so is Pei Yin."

"I had this specially sourced and carefully refined. It takes effect instantly. Even Pei Yin fell for it."

"Feeling awful, are you? A pity you dodged it. Otherwise, you’d be bleeding, and I would have made you suffer even more."

Jian Yu raised her eyes, following the voice to lock onto station number six.

Station six was Yan Qin’s, but a man was sitting there now.

Jian Yu recognized the voice. "Did Yan Qin let you in?"

Yan Yu laughed.

"You still have the mind to care about that? It seems you’re not as high-and-mighty as I thought."

"Putting on an act in front of everyone, but not anymore, huh? I’d say you’re just dying to throw yourself at me. Playing hard to get—not bad."

"Come over here yourself. I’ll wait for you to crawl to me and bow your head in apology."

Jian Yu switched on the backup power.

The lab was instantly flooded with light.

Yan Yu sat in the chair, his face flushed. He had an impressive build, from his waist and shoulders to his legs.

His legs were spread wide, and he was slightly hunched over, his right hand resting on his knee. His gaze was naked and lecherous.

Jian Yu stared at the golden mask in his hand, her gaze slowly moving to his face.

’The clothes were ornate, and the body wasn’t bad, but there was just no sex appeal.’

’Maybe it’s because his every move is so greasy?’

Jian Yu’s voice was cool, her tone tinged with confusion. "I don’t understand. I’ve never gone out of my way to provoke either of you."

Yan Yu’s expression was arrogant. "Do you really not understand, or are you just pretending?"

His tone turned sinister. "No one dares to refuse me. I humbled myself to ask you, and you threw my kindness back in my face."

"Oh, so humble of you," Jian Yu said, her voice flat.

She glanced at the surveillance camera, which had been destroyed by spiritual power, and opened her Star Brain.

After confirming the video was recording from all angles, she asked in a slow, deliberate voice, "How much was Yan Qin involved?"

Yan Yu let out a sinister chuckle.

He began to speak, his voice dripping with arrogance.

"Yan Qin is much more vicious than I am. Her original plan was to disfigure you, throw you to some lowlifes to have their way with you, then film it and post it on the academy forums."

"You should be thanking me. I’m the one who vetoed her plan."

"She’s too stupid. She thought that once you were drugged, you’d be at anyone’s mercy. She knows nothing about the power of an Awakener."

"I wouldn’t dare use her for anything more. Using her access privileges to get me in here was enough. For anything else, she’d just get in my way."

Yan Yu narrowed his eyes, his tone laced with confusion. "How are you still fine? Didn’t you smell anything?"

Jian Yu mused, her cadence slow. "Were you trying to drug me?"

She spoke so slowly it was maddening. "I might have a cold. My nose is stuffy, so I didn’t smell anything."

Yan Yu was stunned. "You’re an Awakener! How could you possibly get a cold!"

He was losing control of his breathing, his face growing hotter and redder with increasing impatience.

"I’m an expert at punching above my weight class. You’ve only just Awakened. If you don’t want me to cripple you, you’d better not resist."

A mass of fog gathered, taking the shape of a large Jellyfish and floating above Jian Yu’s head.

"Are you declaring war on me?" Yan Yu stood up.

His face was a mask of conceit and arrogance. "Then you can’t blame me. I was originally planning to take it slow and be gentle with you."

Jian Yu stared at him.

He rose, used Instant Teleportation, and left an afterimage in his wake. She could clearly see the traces of a wolf’s shadow leaping.

’Is this the gap between a Level 2S and a Level 3S?’

’Compared to Pei Yin and the others, Yan Yu’s speed seems a bit lacking.’

Jian Yu lifted her gaze, and a faint purple mist bloomed in her field of vision.

Sensing the aura of a Soul Beast, Yan Yu raised his soul shield.

He snorted. "I let you win last time, that’s the only reason you succeeded. You don’t really think I..."

In the shifting violet light, the ground beneath Yan Yu’s feet began to crack and splinter.

Jian Yu paused, her words slow and halting. "Do you have to finish your tough-guy monologue before you can fight?"

"..." The muscles in Yan Yu’s back tensed into a hard line, his expression turning vicious.

The Golden Wolf leaped out, pouncing toward Jian Yu.

With a low roar, it lunged with its front paws, only for its limbs to be instantly ensnared by the floating, iridescent purple Jellyfish.

The tips of the fine tentacles carried stinging cells that exploded in a fluorescent burst, mixed with venom.

"I underestimated you." Yan Yu gave up on the Soul Beast confrontation and turned to attack Jian Yu directly.

The lab doors opened, and light suddenly poured in.

A flash of white streaked by as a figure appeared.

Amid the dull thud of a collision, Yin Jiu latched fiercely onto Yan Yu’s shoulder blade.

Its front paws pressed against Yan Yu’s chest, claws digging into flesh, its ’Blue Enchantress’ eyes burning with ferocity.

Yan Yu cried out in pain with a muffled grunt.

He thrashed his head, struggling, and viciously lashed out at Yin Jiu with his spiritual power.

Jian Yu thought Yin Jiu would dodge.

But instead, Yin Jiu opened its mouth and clamped down hard on Yan Yu’s shoulder, refusing to let go.

Iridescent blue blood splattered from the corner of its mouth—clearly not the color of human blood.

Jian Yu beat back the Golden Wolf, turned her head, and called out, "Chairman Sheng."

Tentacles surged from under the Jellyfish’s bell, twisting and coiling around Yan Yu’s neck.

Sheng Yue frowned. "Come back."

Yin Jiu lifted its head, shrank in size, and trotted back, looking puffed up with indignation.

It flopped down at Sheng Yue’s feet, its tail sweeping from side to side.

Jian Yu crouched down to examine it. "You’re bleeding?"

Yin Jiu lifted its big, round, fluffy face and nuzzled against Jian Yu’s hand.

Its nose twitched as it inhaled all of the Green Mist seeping from Jian Yu’s fingertips.

Yan Yu took an antidote, relieving the burning heat within him.

He staggered to his feet. "Maliciously injuring a student from another planet... Does the Alliance know this is how you treat competitors?"

Sheng Yue withdrew his gaze from Jian Yu.

His voice was cool and light. "Zone 2 is not an area open to visitors. How did you get in? Please give me a reasonable explanation."

"How I got in is not important," Yan Yu said, his tone laced with a sinister chill.

"What’s important is that you injured me without any regard for the facts. If I were to bring this matter to light..."

Her Star Brain’s screen sharing activated. A cheerful ringtone played as several anime characters appeared.

Jian Yu fumbled to change the video.

The words she uttered were simple, tinged with a dazed look. "Sorry, wrong one."

’I’d advise you not to call for help. I don’t think you’d want anyone to see what’s about to happen.’

Hearing his own voice, Yan Yu’s head snapped up.

He was sure he’d destroyed all the surveillance cameras.

And Jian Yu’s Star Brain—he had been interfering with it using his spiritual power from the very beginning.

Yan Yu snapped out of it and immediately tried to pass the buck. "It was someone from your academy who brought me in. If you have a problem, you should go ask Yan Qin."

Sheng Yue lowered his eyes. "She will be advised to withdraw. As for you, withdraw from the competition immediately. For subsequent compensation, I will hold your academy accountable."
