Several people entered from outside and took Yan Yu away.

The drawn-out battle Jian Yu had anticipated was over in an instant.

She glanced at Sheng Yue and said meekly, "Thank you, Chairman."

Sheng Yue gave a slight nod.

Out of the corner of his eye, he kept glancing at Jian Yu’s fair cheeks and her demure posture.

His tone was a bit unnatural. "My apologies. I’ll deal with Yan Qin by the end of the day."

Yin Jiu moved about, wandering here and there, then casually headed toward Jian Yu.

Before it could get close, Sheng Yue recalled it.

Yin Jiu: "..."

"See you tomorrow." Sheng Yue turned to leave, his pace even and slow, as if deliberately lagging for a beat.

Jian Yu watched his retreating back, her big eyes wide and round.

’Still so distant and cold.’

’It really makes you want to tease him.’

But Jian Yu wasn’t an outgoing person. She was the classic introvert that extreme extroverts loved to tease.

She opened her mouth and blurted out, "Chairman Sheng."

"Hm?" Sheng Yue turned back, his face still expressionless.

Only his gaze lingered as he turned his body sideways toward Jian Yu.

His voice was cold, betraying no emotion. "Is there something else?"

In the frigid corridor, the man’s ears gradually turned red.

Jian Yu didn’t notice. Her eyes were downcast.

’His tone was so indifferent, she was starting to wonder if their kiss had even been real.’

’Anyone would think she’d just dreamed it up.’

As she stood there in a daze, Sheng Yue spoke again.

He used her full name, his expression unchanging, though a flicker of confusion crossed his eyes. "Jian Yu?"

Sheng Yue turned to face her fully, his blue eyes solemn and his focus entirely on Jian Yu’s face.

Jian Yu felt a surge of nervousness, like a student being called on by a teacher.

"I wanted to ask you something."

Jian Yu hated taking the initiative. She was afraid of rejection and already regretted calling out to him.

She braced herself and racked her brain.

Finally, she came up with a flimsy excuse.

"Chairman, should we exchange contact info? The project just started, and I’ll definitely be in and out of Zone 2 frequently. I’m worried a situation like this might happen again."

Silence. A cold stillness. An autumn leaf spiraled to the ground.

Jian Yu glimpsed the yellow leaf from the corner of her eye, and a chill ran through her.

Her head cleared. "It’s fine, we don’t have to. I was just asking."

Sheng Yue seemed to consider it for a long moment before replying, "Okay."

He walked very quickly.

When Jian Yu looked up, he was already in front of her before she could even see him move.

The Star Brain flickered. Just as they were about to confirm the contact exchange, Sheng Yue let out an abrupt, low gasp.

He raised a hand, and his long fingers slowly undid the top button of his uniform.

Beneath the uniform, a sheer black undershirt was faintly visible.

His fair chest, veiled by the translucent black fabric, made the atmosphere grow increasingly intimate.

Jian Yu’s gaze was captivated, and she pressed her lips together.

’Would it be too perverted to gulp right now?’

She lifted her head, secretly watching him from the corner of her eye.

Honestly, compared to Yan Yu’s lecherous display earlier, Sheng Yue simply undoing a button was far more interesting to watch.

’He might be cold, but he was also genuinely sexy.’

Perhaps she stared for too long. Sheng Yue’s Adam’s apple bobbed, interrupting her ogling. "Anything else?"

His lips were pressed into a thin line, his lashes thick and straight. His breath was warm, rising visibly in the cold air.

"Nothing else," Jian Yu said woodenly, turning her back to him. "Goodbye, Chairman."

"Mhm." Sheng Yue watched her leave, his voice deep and hoarse.

Jian Yu’s steps faltered. Without turning around, she could imagine the kind of gaze he had fixed on her.

Her ears tingled and a shiver ran down her spine. Realizing what was happening, she quickened her pace and walked away.

"Yu."

Jian Yu saw Shen Gu. "What are you doing here?"

Shen Gu paused. "Didn’t you send me a message? I brought people over as soon as I received it. I was going to notify the Chief, but Chairman Sheng said he would handle it and told me to just wait here for you."

The rims of his eyes were red, but the eyes themselves were dark and bright. "It’s so cold."

Jian Yu felt the chill too. "Something was probably damaged. The heating must be out."

She glanced at the plush gloves on her own hands, then took a black pair from her Space Ring and offered them to Shen Gu.

"I was originally planning to give these to Xi Yu and the others, but since you’re cold, you can have them."

Shen Gu, who had been reaching for the gloves, quickly pulled his hand back. "Forget it. If the Chief finds out, he’ll kill me."

Jian Yu looked at his glistening, pitiful eyes.

She rummaged for a moment and pulled out a cyan scarf. "This is for you."

This time, she didn’t say it was meant for Pei Yin, so Shen Gu put it on with a sense of relief.

"Executive Director."

Someone standing nearby stepped forward and whispered in Shen Gu’s ear.

Shen Gu frowned.

He turned his head. "Yu, I’ll take you back. You shouldn’t go out today."

Seeing the grim looks on their faces, Jian Yu asked, "What happened?"

Shen Gu hesitated, worried that Jian Yu wouldn’t be able to handle it.

In his eyes, no matter how capable Jian Yu was, she was still just a delicate little girl who needed to be protected.

But this was something that couldn’t be hidden.

They left Zone 2 and boarded an express elevator.

Shen Gu explained, "There are rumors spreading online that you’re in improper relationships with several people. Also, an anonymous source is accusing you of breaking into the research building and stealing critical research data."

Jian Yu opened the forums to find them flooded with slanderous posts.

But when she clicked into the comment sections...

[Damn, are that many people getting cozy with the Little Fairy? I don’t care if it’s true or not, can I get in on that?]

[Why is someone from Emperor Wolf Star in the mix? That’s Yan Yu, right? How did a piece of trash like him get a chance? I’m way better than him!]

[You’re here for a competition, so compete. What’s the big idea, poaching someone from our academy? Don’t you guys have any girls at your own school?]

[The video is too blurry. Yan Yu is standing so far away, and it cuts to black before you can see much.]

[Oh, you haven’t heard? That Yan Yu guy had a huge fight with his academy. Said he’d drop out of the competition if the Little Fairy would just make things official with him.]

[If you ask me, these pretty boys in the videos may look all soft and weak, but they’ve got some serious game. Not only did they get the Little Fairy hooked, I heard there’s even a kid involved. Making it official is just a matter of time.]

[Speaking as a professional: These are all deepfakes. The only real one is with our academy’s Chief.]

[Professional speaking again: The theft video is real. Not a fake.]

...

Jian Yu was dumbfounded.

She hesitated before asking Shen Gu, "Have you guys been doing any damage control on the comments?"

"Huh?" Shen Gu had just finished reporting to the Chief, though he suspected the Chief already knew everything.

"Whoever’s behind this hired a bot army. There are a ton of posts. We’ve started some damage control, but I haven’t had a chance to get to everything."

Jian Yu pressed her lips together, suddenly feeling a hot flush of embarrassment.

She searched for the posts about the stolen research data.

The first set of rumors would be easy to clear up. The videos were fake, and Yan Yu hadn’t succeeded anyway.

The latter was the real problem.

Watching the blurry figure in the video, Jian Yu’s expression grew grim.

The figure, the gait, the view from the back, the clothes, the side profile... it looked too much like her.

The timing was also cleverly chosen; it was exactly when she had been cornered by Yan Yu in the lab.

Jian Yu’s heart clenched. "What do they mean by ’critical research data’?"

Shen Gu’s thoughts were a mess. "I’m not sure of the specifics. All I know is that the data represents three years of Professor Lin’s work, and many professors from the Alliance’s science division also participated in the research."
