Why Is This Omega Stalking Me…?

Chapter 50: Just Like Everyone Else

Chapter 50

.

.

Shen Yu’s gaze lingered on Jiang Li’s clothes, now stained and clinging uncomfortably to his pale frame. The sight alone was enough to deepen the crease between his brows, but what unsettled him more was how visibly unwell Jiang Li looked.

The lingering smell in the car only made things worse, and he could see how the omega’s condition deteriorated the longer he remained exposed to it. Without saying anything, Shen Yu reached into the back seat, retrieved a mask, and carefully helped Jiang Li put it on so he wouldn’t have to keep inhaling the nauseating scent.

Once that was done, Shen Yu stepped out of the car, closing the door behind him as he scanned the surroundings. His eyes quickly landed on a small clothing store nearby. After a brief pause, he opened the car door again and looked at Jiang Li, his expression unreadable.

"Jiang Li... how important is your attendance today?" he asked.

Jiang Li looked up at him, his cheeks flushing a deep red as embarrassment settled heavily over him. He could barely hold Shen Yu’s gaze for more than a second before lowering his head again, his voice coming out soft and strained.

"We’re writing an examination today," he muttered.

Shen Yu exhaled slowly, the sound carrying a weight he didn’t bother to hide. For a moment, it felt as though all the air had been pulled out of his lungs, leaving behind a quiet pressure that refused to ease.

Take responsibility.

The thought surfaced uninvited and refused to leave. If not for him, Jiang Li wouldn’t have ended up in this condition in the first place. The realization settled heavily in his chest as he checked the time and then looked back at Jiang Li.

"What do you want to eat?" he asked instead.

Jiang Li immediately shook his head, his expression tightening as though even the mention of food was enough to make him feel sick again. It didn’t take long for Shen Yu to understand that forcing him to eat something he disliked—no matter how healthy it was—would only make things worse.

"It’s fine," Shen Yu said after a moment, his tone softening slightly. "Anything you want."

Jiang Li blinked, clearly surprised, his red-rimmed eyes widening as he looked up again.

"I want lo mein... and fish cakes," he admitted.

Shen Yu suppressed a sigh. It wasn’t the healthiest choice, and it certainly wasn’t what he would have recommended, but he didn’t argue. At this point, getting Jiang Li to eat anything at all was more important.

"Take off your clothes," Shen Yu said calmly.

Jiang Li froze, his eyes widening in confusion as he stared at him.

"I’m serious," Shen Yu added, his tone leaving no room for misunderstanding.

It took a few seconds, but realization finally dawned on Jiang Li. His ears turned red as he hesitated briefly before beginning to remove the soiled clothes. By then, Shen Yu had already turned away and walked toward the nearby shop, giving him privacy without another word.

His pace wasn’t rushed, but it wasn’t slow either. He entered the small store and quickly picked out a hoodie and a pair of sweatpants, both in a bright blue shade. It was a deliberate choice—he had noticed before that Jiang Li tended to avoid darker colors.

When he returned, he unlocked the car and handed the clothes over without looking inside. He waited a short distance away, giving Jiang Li time to change.

After a while, Jiang Li stepped out of the car, his head lowered, his posture stiff with lingering embarrassment.

"When does your class start?" Shen Yu asked.

"Nine," Jiang Li replied quietly, still avoiding eye contact.

Shen Yu glanced at his watch. It was only twenty past eight. There was still time.

"Wait for me," he said, turning slightly as if preparing to leave again.

Before he could step away, Jiang Li spoke.

"Aren’t you going to work...?"

Shen Yu paused and looked at him. For a brief moment, his expression softened into something almost gentle, and he gave a small, reassuring smile before getting back into the car. The smell inside was still overwhelming, but he didn’t react as he started the engine and drove off.

Jiang Li stood there, watching the car disappear, his grip tightening slightly around the new clothes. A quiet sigh escaped him as he looked down at himself, the embarrassment settling deeper the more he thought about what had just happened.

He hesitated before placing a hand on his lower stomach, his fingers pressing lightly as if trying to understand what had gone wrong.

"Why don’t you like tuna so much now..." he muttered under his breath. "You embarrassed me."

The complaint was soft and almost childish, but it faded quickly as discomfort lingered in his body.

Then—

"Why did you block my number?"

The voice came from behind him, deep and unmistakable.

Jiang Li froze.

A familiar ocean-like scent drifted toward him, wrapping around him in a way that immediately made his body tense. His hands clenched at his sides as he slowly turned around, already knowing who he would see.

Taehyun.

Standing close enough to make Jiang Li feel small, his presence overwhelming in a way that was difficult to ignore. If Jiang Li didn’t look up, his gaze barely reached the other man’s chest.

"Did you use the pills on him?" Taehyun asked.

Jiang Li shook his head quickly, the unease that had briefly subsided returning all at once. There was something off about the scent surrounding Taehyun, something faint but noticeable, and it made Jiang Li’s thoughts spiral. Ever since that accident, he hadn’t been able to properly sense other Alphas’ pheromones—except for Shen Yu’s.

And yet now...

He wasn’t sure what he was sensing anymore.

"You didn’t?" Taehyun let out a low chuckle, the sound forcing Jiang Li to look up despite himself.

"I didn’t think you were capable of lying with a face like yours," he continued, leaning closer, his dark eyes locking onto Jiang Li’s. "Especially since Shen Yu hates lies."

Jiang Li’s breath hitched as the proximity became overwhelming. He wasn’t used to this kind of pressure, and instinctively, he stepped back.

"I’m not lying," he said quickly, his voice rising slightly with panic. "I didn’t use them on him."

"Then explain this."

Taehyun held out a document.

Jiang Li’s eyes fell on it immediately, drawn to the photo printed on the page. It was Shen Yu—but something was different. His eyes were purple, just like that night.

And below that—

Secondary gender.

Alpha.

Jiang Li’s breathing became uneven.

That didn’t make sense.

He had seen Shen Yu’s ID before. He knew what it said. He knew—

"Then how did he manifest days after I gave you the pills?" Taehyun’s voice cut through his thoughts, calm and unsettling at the same time.

Jiang Li couldn’t answer.

His mind felt like it was unraveling.

Taehyun stepped back slightly, a faint smile forming as his gaze shifted past Jiang Li.

"Aren’t you happy?" he said lightly. "Using pills on him so he could finally become what you wanted—"

Jiang Li frowned, confusion flashing across his face.

Taehyun wasn’t looking at him anymore.

The air shifted.

At first, it was faint—

Then unmistakable.

Whisky.

And rosewood.

Jiang Li’s heart skipped violently as he turned.

Shen Yu stood a short distance away, his figure rigid, his expression colder than Jiang Li had ever seen it. The plastic bag slipped from Shen Yu’s fingers. It struck the pavement with a dull thud, sending the fish cakes tumbling across the concrete.

"Shen Yu..." Jiang Li whispered, his voice barely audible over the pounding of his heart.

But before he could say anything more, Taehyun spoke again, his tone cutting through the moment with deliberate precision.

"Just like everyone else who claimed they loved him did."

This time, the words weren’t meant for Jiang Li.

They were meant for Shen Yu.

And Shen Yu’s gaze remained fixed on Jiang Li, cold and unreadable—

Except for one thing.

Hurt.
