Chapter 81

"What are we doing here, Shen Yu?"

Jiang Li rested both hands against the cold cement railing of the bridge, his fingers curling around its rough surface as he turned his head toward the man standing beside him. The winter wind moved gently through his hair, carrying with it the distant sounds of traffic and the occasional honk from cars passing beneath the bridge. Above them, the night sky stretched endlessly, dark and clear, with the moon hanging brightly between drifting clouds.

Shen Yu had been staring at the sky for several moments without saying anything.

At Jiang Li’s question, however, his lips curved into a small smile before he finally turned toward him.

"What... are you sleepy?" he asked.

Jiang Li blinked, tilting his head in confusion. The innocent little movement made Shen Yu chuckle beneath his breath.

He had never smiled this much in a single day.

It was almost strange.

For most of his life, Shen Yu had been accustomed to keeping his expressions restrained. A smile had never been something that came easily to him, and laughter had become something he rarely allowed himself. Yet recently, whenever Jiang Li was around, he found himself smiling without even realizing it.

"Do you know how you look right now?" Shen Yu asked.

Jiang Li immediately shook his head, a faint frown forming between his brows. He stepped closer until he was standing directly beside Shen Yu, his shoulder almost brushing against the Alpha’s arm. The small butterfly necklace around his neck caught the moonlight, the delicate pendant glimmering softly against his skin whenever he moved.

"You look so small," Shen Yu murmured.

Before Jiang Li could react, Shen Yu raised his hand and placed it gently against his cheek.

His palm covered almost Jiang Li’s entire face.

The sight made Shen Yu grin.

"Like a little bunny."

Jiang Li’s eyes widened slightly as he stared up at him. His eyelashes brushed against Shen Yu’s palm with every blink, the soft sensation making Shen Yu’s fingers twitch faintly. Something about the sight made his chest feel strangely warm.

He quickly withdrew his hand and turned his attention toward the road again, resting his forearm against the bridge railing.

Jiang Li, meanwhile, remained standing beside him, his cheeks warming beneath the cold night air.

"That night..." Shen Yu suddenly said.

Jiang Li’s expression changed.

"What were you thinking, flirting with me like that?"

The question immediately brought the memory back.

Jiang Li’s ears turned crimson. The blush spread quickly across his cheeks as he looked away, suddenly finding the passing headlights below them much more interesting than Shen Yu’s face.

"I wanted to see what your type was," he admitted quietly.

Shen Yu glanced at him.

"So I did a lot of things to see which one would impress you more."

There was a nervousness in Jiang Li’s voice that hadn’t been there moments earlier.

Shen Yu stared at him for a moment before reaching out and taking his wrist. He gently pulled him closer, forcing Jiang Li to look up at him.

"Then what is my type, Li?" Shen Yu asked quietly. "After all those stunts you pulled, which one was my type?"

The question seemed to make the entire world around Jiang Li disappear.

The sound of traffic rushing along the road became distant. The cold wind brushing against his skin no longer mattered. Even the moonlight seemed to fade into the background.

All he could focus on was Shen Yu.

Those dark eyes stared down at him, deep and unreadable, yet somehow no longer frightening. Shen Yu’s fingers remained wrapped around his wrist, slightly cool against the warmth of his skin, and the contrast made Jiang Li’s heart beat harder.

He had always reacted strangely whenever he stared into those eyes for too long.

There was a dangerous warmth that would rise through his body, threatening to leak into his pheromones before he could control it.

"I don’t know," Jiang Li whispered. "I really don’t."

Shen Yu hummed softly.

"It’s understandable that you don’t know."

His thumb moved slowly over Jiang Li’s wrist before he continued.

"Because my type... the reason I came to like you, was something you never wanted to show me yourself. You hid it behind all those stunts."

Jiang Li stared at him silently.

Shen Yu glanced down briefly at his watch before looking back at him.

"But no matter how hard you tried to hide it, you couldn’t. Because it was still who you were."

His hand rose again, and his fingers gently poked Jiang Li’s cheek.

"The kid who cries over the smallest things."

The poke was slightly painful, but Jiang Li was too distracted by Shen Yu’s words to complain.

"The omega who likes that sugar rush from ice cream," Shen Yu continued, his voice softer now. "The one who would do almost anything to have what he wanted. The one who gets jealous easily and pretends he doesn’t."

Jiang Li’s lips curved into a small smile.

"And the omega who wears his heart on his sleeve," Shen Yu added.

His gaze softened.

"Not the cold Jiang Li. Not the flirty Jiang Li. Not even all those different personalities you showed me whenever you were with me."

Jiang Li’s smile slowly disappeared, replaced by a trembling expression.

"They didn’t impress me," Shen Yu said.

He stepped closer.

"And they weren’t what made me fall in love with you, Jiang Li."

Jiang Li’s breath caught.

Shen Yu’s eyes remained fixed on him.

"All those things you did were insignificant because the person who had already stolen my heart was the little boy underneath all of them."

Jiang Li’s eyes immediately became glassy.

"The one who made me stay," Shen Yu continued. "The one who made me forgive things I would never have forgiven anyone else."

A tear escaped Jiang Li’s eye.

He quickly wiped it away, but another followed.

"All that was left was for me to realize that I had already fallen for you."

Jiang Li laughed softly through his tears.

"You know..." he said, his voice wavering, "the one who was stalking you... the one who took pictures of you..."

Shen Yu raised an eyebrow.

"That wasn’t a stunt."

"Mn," Shen Yu replied, a faint smile appearing. "Is that so?"

He slipped an arm around Jiang Li’s waist and pulled him closer.

Jiang Li nodded.

"Then can that omega be mine?" Shen Yu asked. "So he won’t have to stalk other Alphas anymore."

Jiang Li froze.

His eyes widened.

For a moment, he genuinely wondered if he had heard correctly.

"Pardon?"

Shen Yu smiled.

It wasn’t because Jiang Li hadn’t heard him. His heart simply couldn’t believe what his ears were telling him.

"I want you to be my omega," Shen Yu said.

His voice was steady despite the way his heart was beginning to race.

"My boyfriend."

He tightened his arm around Jiang Li’s waist.

"The person I want beside me."

Jiang Li forgot how to breathe.

His heart hammered against his ribs so violently that he was certain Shen Yu could hear it.

Then, before he could even process what had happened, the countdown began somewhere in the distance.

"Three!"

People gathered across the city shouted together.

"Two!"

The atmosphere suddenly became electric.

"One!"

"Happy New Year!"

Fireworks erupted across the sky.

Brilliant colors exploded above them, illuminating the darkness in flashes of gold, red, blue, and silver. The reflected light danced across Shen Yu’s face, making his dark eyes seem even deeper.

Before Jiang Li could fully register what was happening, Shen Yu leaned down and kissed him.

Jiang Li froze in surprise.

Shen Yu’s arms tightened around him, holding him securely while still being careful not to hurt him. For several seconds, Jiang Li could do nothing but stand there, overwhelmed by the warmth of Shen Yu’s lips and the reality of what he had just heard.

Then his body finally responded.

His arms slipped around Shen Yu’s neck as he kissed him back.

The kiss carried every emotion Jiang Li had struggled to contain for months. His tears continued falling, warm against his cheeks, and when they kissed, the faint taste of salt lingered between them.

Shen Yu didn’t pull away.

Instead, the kiss deepened, becoming more emotional than either of them had expected. His hand remained firmly against Jiang Li’s waist while Jiang Li clung to him as though afraid that if he let go, the entire moment would disappear.

Eventually, Shen Yu broke the kiss.

Both of them were breathing softly, their foreheads nearly touching.

"Happy New Year, LiLi," Shen Yu whispered.

Jiang Li immediately hugged him.

He wrapped his arms around Shen Yu so tightly that the Alpha couldn’t help but grin.

His own heart was racing just as hard.

For a few seconds, Shen Yu simply held him.

Then something changed in Jiang Li’s expression.

Memories began rushing through his mind.

The first day he met Shen Yu.

The confusion he had felt when he first noticed the Alpha.

The way he had repeatedly told himself that he wouldn’t develop feelings for another Alpha.

The way those feelings had continued growing anyway.

He had tried to suppress them.

He had tried to distract himself.

He had even convinced himself that if he acted differently, if he became someone else, perhaps Shen Yu would finally notice him.

Instead, his feelings had only grown stronger.

Until they became something impossible to contain.

A hurricane that had eventually led him to stalking Shen Yu, following him, taking pictures of him, and desperately trying to understand why this one person had taken over so much of his heart.

Every memory flashed through him at once.

Jiang Li trembled.

He slowly pulled away from Shen Yu and looked up at him through tear-filled eyes.

His vision was blurry, but he could still see the man standing before him.

The man he had chased after.

The man he had loved quietly.

The man who had finally chosen him.

Shen Yu gently wiped away one of his tears.

Jiang Li sniffled, his lips trembling into a smile.

Then he nodded.

"Yes," he whispered.

His voice shook, but there was no hesitation in it.

"Yes... I want to be your omega, Shen Yu."

Shen Yu stared at him for several seconds before his expression softened completely.

The fireworks continued exploding above them, filling the sky with light while the city celebrated around them.

But neither of them looked away from the other.

For Jiang Li, the new year had begun with the one thing he had wanted for so long.

For Shen Yu, it began with finally allowing someone into the part of his heart he had spent years keeping closed.

And beneath the bright winter sky, surrounded by the fading echoes of fireworks and the warmth of each other’s embrace, they finally stepped into the beginning of something neither of them could have imagined when they first met.
