Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?
Chapter 131: Openly Defying an Imperial EdictZhang Li was completely confused. ’Li Yang isn’t an idiot. That wasn’t the point of my report at all.’
’Why is he dodging the real issue, just like President Shan? I reported that Yang Hui is challenging the boss’s authority and refusing to follow company orders. Why is everyone blaming *me* for relying on outside help for sales?’
He didn’t know that Li Yang was currently having to force himself to forget about Yang Hui. If he didn’t, he was going to explode.
Yang Hui had just handed him a massive headache, one far more serious than his previous concerns about department provocations and salary adjustments.
For those earlier issues, he could have found an excuse to shut everyone up.
But this thing with Zhang Li’s report... Yang Hui was disregarding even Li Yang’s own signature. This was a direct challenge to his authority as the boss. If Li Yang didn’t deal with it, how could he maintain his prestige? What would his subordinates think of him?
To him, Yang Hui’s actions were tantamount to open insubordination.
He hadn’t figured out how to handle it yet, and he also knew he couldn’t let his anger keep building—a spike in his blood pressure would be disastrous. So, he turned his frustration on Zhang Li’s management skills instead.
Zhang Li had no idea about all these underlying complexities. Feeling wronged, and worried that Li Yang would overlook Yang Hui’s blatant disrespect, he quickly added, "President Li, he’s ignoring your signature. If you don’t do something, what’s to stop others from doing the same?"
"Get out—get out! Motherfucker, get out!"
Zhang Li was baffled as Li Yang pointed a finger at him, ordering him to get out.
He walked out, his face a mask of frustration, cursing his uncle internally. ’What’s wrong with him lately? He’s acting like a complete moron, can’t even tell right from wrong.’
Zhang Li had just reignited the fury toward Yang Hui that Li Yang had struggled so hard to suppress. There was no way Li Yang could contain it now. Telling Zhang Li to get lost was letting him off easy; if he’d stayed a second longer, Li Yang might have brained him with an ashtray.
After Zhang Li left, the floor was the next victim. Li Yang swept everything off his desk, his roars echoing from his office and causing the faces of those in the nearby work area to pale.
Before long, word had spread throughout the company: "Whatever you do, don’t go talk to President Li right now, or you’ll die a horrible death."
-----------------
As the instigator of all this, Yang Hui had no idea the company was about to explode because of him. Li Yang had locked himself in his office, refusing to see anyone before the afternoon meeting. He needed to get his emotions in check; he had an important guest to receive.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class parked on the first basement level of Xinyue Square. The time was exactly 11:30 AM.
Shen Meng was about to get out of the car. "Wait a minute."
Halted by his words, she looked at him in confusion. "What’s wrong?"
Yang Hui puckered his lips and leaned in. "Gimme a kiss."
Shen Meng blushed deeply and glanced outside before leaning her rosy face in. She had intended to give him just a light peck, but he caught the back of her neck and pulled her into a long, French kiss.
A moment later, just as she was starting to feel breathless, he let her go.
"Come on, let’s go eat."
"Are we getting juice, too?"
They had bought juice from this very shop on their first date, so she thought of it as soon as they arrived.
"It’s your treat, you know."
Yang Hui said it teasingly. Shen Meng smiled. "Of course."
"Haha, I love it when you act like you’re the richest person in the world."
Shen Meng rolled her eyes at him and went to get in line, unknowingly contributing to Yang Hui’s system mission.
Shen Meng slid a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice across to Yang Hui. Beads of condensation trickled down its side, leaving a winding trail of moisture on the glass tabletop.
They were now seated in a restaurant. As Yang Hui took the fresh juice, a system notification popped up, and he glanced at it.
[System-bound individual Shen Meng has spent 30 yuan on behalf of Host. Activating random rebate multiplier.]
The wheel finally stopped. 50x!
[Rebate Multiplier: 50x
Rebate Amount: 1,500 yuan
Mission Progress: 1,690/50,000]
Since the purchase amount was small, the rebate was little more than a token sum—better than nothing, he supposed. Looking at the mission progress bar, which had only inched forward slightly, he sighed. ’It’s a long road ahead.’
They were having Sichuan food today. Shen Meng had a high tolerance for spice, so it was right up her alley.
After they ordered, Shen Meng’s phone buzzed with a notification. She glanced at the message before setting her phone aside.
"Anything important?"
She shook her head. "It’s nothing. Li Qian says she has no idea what’s wrong with President Li today. He apparently blew up at President Shan and then at Zhang Li. Says he nearly destroyed his office."
Li Qian was such a gossip. She was probably bored out of her mind alone in the live-streaming room with Shen Meng out and had no one else to share the juicy details with.
Yang Hui had a pretty good idea what that was about. ’I wonder if Li Yang can swallow this one,’ he thought. ’Come on, grow a spine. Give me a pleasant surprise, will you?’
BUZZ~
Yang Hui’s phone also vibrated with a message. It was from Cheng Jun. The application he had submitted for the five underperforming Airex stores in Xinyue Group properties had been approved. They were granted a "pay for two months, get one free" rent reduction policy.
The policy meant that for each quarter, they would only have to pay two months’ rent, effectively waiving one month’s payment.
This policy would save Futong Commerce several hundred thousand yuan in rent for the quarter, leading to a significant boost in Airex’s profit margins.
He composed a message telling Zhu Jing to draft a formal request for the rent reduction. Since it required a supplementary agreement, it would definitely need Li Yang’s final approval. Without it, no agreement could be signed.
A moment later, his phone rang again. ’This meal is not going smoothly at all.’ He glanced at the screen, saw it was Teacher Chen, and quickly answered.
Teacher Chen was calling to thank him again. His son’s job was all set. He had reported to the Xinyue Group Headquarters at 9:00 AM, and HR had onboarded him directly. He was given a manager-level position with a base salary of 15,000 yuan per month—three times what he had been making at Yida Department Store.
Over the phone, Teacher Chen insisted on inviting Yang Hui over for a home-cooked meal so his son could thank him in person.
"Teacher Chen, it was no trouble at all, please don’t mention it. Just tell Brother Chen to focus on working hard. There will be plenty of opportunities for advancement down the line."
With President Tian’s connection, while he wouldn’t get any unearned promotions, his talent certainly wouldn’t be overlooked as long as he proved capable.
"Hurry and eat," Shen Meng said after he hung up. "The food’s getting cold."
He looked down and saw his bowl was piled high with food. She had clearly been busy loading up his bowl while he was on the phone.
"Shen Meng, after we eat, I’m going to take you to see a store."
’See a store?’ Shen Meng didn’t understand what he meant, but she nodded sweetly.
The stores Yang Hui was taking her to see were, of course, his own: NLB and Zen. Given his relationship with Shen Meng, there was no reason to hide it. In fact, he had no intention of hiding it from anyone.
’Shen Meng is doing live-stream sales at Futong Commerce right now,’ he thought. ’She’d be much better off coming to help me at Yanghe Commerce. The pay is higher, the hours are more flexible—why should she stay at Futong?’
