Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?
Chapter 130: Why Am I the One Being Scolded?"A Hui, that sounds a bit like you’re threatening the company. President Li won’t be happy to hear it."
He was already on his way out, but he turned back at those words. "President Shan, please be sure to relay my exact words to him."
Dan Biao gave a wry smile. "I’ll definitely relay them. That’s all I can do."
After Yang Hui left, a gleeful smile suddenly appeared on Dan Biao’s face.
’Haha, I finally get to see President Li being challenged again. He’s going to fly into a rage, isn’t he? Will he compromise this time, or will he compromise, or... will he compromise?
Have I become a pervert recently? Why do I get this strange sense of pleasure every time Yang Hui stirs up trouble?’
He called Cai Miao and asked her to schedule a time for him to report something to President Li.
Cai Miao asked him what it was about. When he replied that it was related to Yang Hui, she assumed he was going to complain about Yang Hui, just like Zhang Li. So she scheduled Dan Biao before Zhang Li—he was a manager, after all—and called Zhang Li to tell him to wait a little longer.
In his office, Li Yang listened to Cai Miao report on the afternoon’s meeting schedule while pulling back the curtains. His expression immediately darkened.
He happened to see Shen Meng opening the passenger door of a Mercedes E-Class. He turned his head away. ’Out of sight, out of mind.’ At the same time, he kept chanting to himself, ’They’re going to make money for me. They’re going to make money for me.’
"President Li—"
"What else?"
"President Shan and Zhang Li each have something to report."
Li Yang waved his hand. "Go on, have Xiaodan come in first. Why does the operations department have so much damn crap today?"
When Dan Biao came in, he saw Li Yang furiously scribbling on a stack of documents that needed his signature. He walked over and stood in front of the desk.
"Have a seat."
Dan Biao thought for a moment and decided not to sit. This way, he’d be a little farther away, saving himself from getting spit all over his face.
"President Li, I’ll be done in just a few sentences, so I’ll just stand."
Hearing this, Li Yang put his pen down on the desk, taking the opportunity to rest for a moment. He picked up his cup, took a sip of water, and said, "Go on."
"Yang Hui just came to see me. He wants to know the overall salary adjustment budget for his team and is also demanding the authority to allocate it among his team members."
Li Yang’s jawline instantly tensed, his masseter muscle bulging at his cheek into a sharp ridge—like a reef exposed by a suddenly receding tide before a tsunami, hiding the peril that could smash a ship to pieces.
"Dan Biao, don’t you fucking know the rules? Since when do we let the subordinates know about salary adjustments? What right do they have to get involved in the allocation?"
He glanced at Li Yang and saw the skin over his cheekbones had turned from bronze to a grayish-blue, like the metal hull of a ship being swallowed by storm clouds.
Knowing this was the precursor to an explosion of rage, Dan Biao put on a fearful expression while secretly reveling inside. He replied, "I told him all that, but he insisted. He said if we don’t do it his way, everyone on his team will start having ’ideas,’ and it will affect their work."
CRASH—!
The sharp sound of the ceramic teacup shattering on the hardwood floor was like a slap across his nerves. Splattering tea leaves and porcelain shards shot out in all directions. One piece grazed his pant leg, leaving an alarming tea-brown stain on his light gray trousers.
"Get out! Get the hell out of my sight!"
Dan Biao had finished his report anyway, so he quickly took the opportunity to leave. As he reached the door, he glanced back at Li Yang: a vein throbbed at his temple, his lower eyelid twitched in sync with the second hand on the wall clock, and yet his mouth was twisted into a bizarre smile—the reaction of a warped mind.
He hurried away, lest he get caught in the crossfire. Just as he stepped out, he heard the sound of more things being smashed inside the office.
People in the outer office area heard the commotion inside. They glanced at Dan Biao as he came out of Li Yang’s office and began to whisper among themselves:
"President Shan got chewed out during his report again. The boss smashed everything."
"President Shan’s been having some bad luck lately. It used to be the subordinates in the operations department who got yelled at. Why is it always him recently?"
"The boss seems to have a really short fuse these days. He’s blowing up every other day."
"We should all be careful. He’s probably menopausal."
Only Cai Miao seemed to understand that the boss’s anger was probably directed at Yang Hui. The boss had just been tolerating him. It seemed she needed to add more fuel to the fire; there would eventually come a day when he couldn’t take it anymore.
As for whether Li Yang would ruin his health from all the anger, what the hell did she care?
Zhang Li used the half-hour before his report to mentally rehearse his speech, trying to figure out how to land a killing blow on Yang Hui.
When he stepped into Li Yang’s office, he realized something was wrong. The back of Li Yang’s hand, braced on the conference table, was covered in veins that bulged like coiled earthworms. The jade archer’s ring on his pinky finger was clacking against the tabletop.
The flare of his nostrils was noticeably wider, and with every breath he took, the fabric of his shirt beneath the third button quivered unnaturally.
’What’s going on? Who could have made him this angry?’
Zhang Li’s work area was quite far from here, so he hadn’t heard the sound of things being smashed in the office just moments ago.
"If you have something to say, spit it out! What are you spacing out for? And let me tell you, if you don’t get the Yida Department Store accounts reconciled in the next two days, it won’t just be a matter of docking your pay. I’ll fire your ass."
Zhang Li was on the verge of tears. He had come to file a complaint and hadn’t even said a word yet, but he was already getting an earful.
"I’m talking to you, didn’t you hear me, huh?"
As Li Yang berated him, he slapped his hand on the desk, making the file organizer on it tremble violently.
"I heard you, I heard you."
Zhang Li answered quickly, cursing his bad luck under his breath. ’I don’t know who pissed him off, but he’s taking it out on me.’
"What did you want to report?"
"It’s about Yang Hui ignoring your signature. For the mall subsidy resources for Yida Department Store, President Shan submitted a request that you approved, but he refuses to implement it."
As he spoke, he looked up at Li Yang and saw that his brow was furrowed into a razor-sharp arc. His pupils had constricted, revealing more of the whites of his eyes, and his irises had a cold, hard, glazed sheen under the overhead lights.
The air conditioning vent suddenly stopped blowing, plunging the entire office into a dead silence. The only sound was the amplified ticking of his wristwatch’s second hand, like the countdown of a time bomb.
He knew President Li was absolutely furious. He quickly lowered his head, but the corner of his mouth curled into a self-satisfied smirk.
’Yang Hui, let’s see you get out of this one. You think this is about resource allocation? This is a challenge to the boss’s authority. That’s the one thing he can’t tolerate. You’re finished, absolutely finished.’
"Zhang Li, you’re a fucking waste of space."
Huh? He looked up at Li Yang, confused. ’After all that waiting, this is what I get? Shouldn’t he be cursing out Yang Hui? Why is he cursing at me?’
"Putting you in charge of the Erke brand was a sign of my trust in you. Look at the kind of job you’ve done! You can’t produce results without mall subsidy resources? If you have to rely entirely on external help, what the hell do I need you for?"
