Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?

Chapter 169: Where Are You Taking Me?

As it turns out, you have to be a bit firm with women.

At a nearby table, a woman was still crying. Her male companion had been watching Yang Hui, and he noticed that as soon as Yang Hui shouted, the beautiful woman instantly stopped crying and apologized.

He had a sudden epiphany. Apparently, you weren’t supposed to coddle women; the more you did, the more spoiled and arrogant they became.

Mimicking Yang Hui’s tone, he snapped, "Stop crying! If you cry again, I’ll slap you."

The woman did stop crying. Just as the man was thinking his new trick had worked and was shooting Yang Hui a look of admiration, the woman shot to her feet, and SLAP! she smacked him across the face. "You’ve got some nerve! You want to slap *me*? I’m breaking up with you."

She stood, grabbed her bag, and walked out. The man was stunned. He clutched his stinging cheek, his adoring gaze toward Yang Hui turning to one of utter bewilderment.

’Your woman is gorgeous, so shouting at her works. How come my plain-looking girlfriend slaps me back?’

There was no time to think. He grabbed his things and scrambled to chase after her. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t have a girlfriend anymore.

Yang Hui had no idea he had just inadvertently broken up another couple. Even if he had known, he wouldn’t have felt guilty. What’s meant to fall apart will fall apart; what isn’t, can’t be broken no matter what you do.

In response to Huang Lingyu’s apology, he just grunted. "That bastard at your company—if he gives you a hard time again, just tell me. We’re not afraid of him."

"Bastard?" For a moment, Huang Lingyu didn’t understand. Her almond-shaped eyes were wide with confusion.

"Your director. That bastard named Wang."

A bastard named Wang? It clicked for Huang Lingyu. She couldn’t help but let out a little laugh before quickly covering her mouth, evidently feeling like a madwoman for laughing right after she’d been crying.

After they finished eating, Yang Hui had Huang Lingyu take the meal for Xiaoli with her, since she had to go back to work. He, in turn, drove back to Futong Commerce.

He had just arrived at the company when he saw Xia Jie coming downstairs, looking aggrieved.

"What’s wrong? You look like you’re about to cry," he joked. They were relatively familiar, having gone out on business together before.

Seeing it was him, Xia Jie forced a smile and greeted, "Manager Yang."

"Why the long face?"

"Sigh..." Xia Jie heaved a heavy sigh, looking like she wanted to speak but holding back, which only piqued Yang Hui’s curiosity. He saw she was carrying her bag, likely about to leave the company to do her store inspections. Since he happened to be free, he invited, "Let’s talk in my car."

Xia Jie murmured a soft sound of assent and followed him to his Mercedes. The wind caught the hem of her long floral dress, creating a ripple of fabric that revealed a flash of her pale thigh. She bent slightly, settling into the passenger seat of the Mercedes E-Class. The coolness of the leather against the thin material of her dress made her instinctively press her legs together.

Glancing at her pale thigh, Yang Hui joked, "So fair. Your name is quite fitting—the ’Jie’ from Bai Jie."

He thought Xia Jie wouldn’t get the reference, but her face instantly flushed red. ’Well now,’ he thought, ’looks like this beauty has some hidden depths. Erudite, even.’

He couldn’t help but sneak another peek. Her face was palm-sized and free of makeup, her almond eyes as clear as a forest fawn’s, and her long lashes cast innocent shadows on her eyelids.

The square neckline revealed a wide expanse of pale skin, the rises and falls of her figure distorting the floral pattern. The design cinched at a waist slender enough to grasp in one hand, while the skirt flared out over her full hips, creating a graceful curve.

’A baby face with a bombshell body, and a reserved demeanor to boot. Futong Commerce really is full of stunners. I’ve already snatched up the most beautiful one, and there are still two top-shelf beauties, Zhu Jing and Xia Jie, left for me to mess around with.’

He drove out of the company lot, and on the road, Xia Jie told him why she was so upset.

After visiting the NLB store on the first floor of Xinyue Square that morning, Li Yang had returned and decided to "fine-tune" the operations management team. He felt it was unacceptable for one supervisor on Zhang Li’s team to be responsible for both Erke and NLB. He argued that the two brands’ product positioning, target customers, and marketing playbooks were completely different, so NLB required a dedicated person.

He had been influenced by the NLB store at Xinyue Square, believing one of the key factors in its success was the high-class image and disposition of its sales staff. NLB was a trendy brand, but Futong Commerce had hired a bunch of average-looking clerks in their thirties, which he felt dragged down the brand’s image.

When he got back, he immediately decided to select a supervisor with a better image and disposition to take exclusive responsibility for NLB. He also ordered a gradual but complete replacement of all current NLB staff, demanding they all be swapped out for good-looking, charismatic employees between 18 and 30 years old.

And so, Xia Jie, a beauty in the operations department whose fame was on par with Zhu Jing’s, was transferred from the Shi Meng brand to Zhang Li’s team to take exclusive responsibility for NLB.

In the past, this wouldn’t have been a bad thing. But now, everyone knew Li Yang was scrutinizing NLB. He was demanding that each store’s performance reach 400,000 a month; otherwise, the year-end bonus was gone, and so were the regular bonuses.

The requirements were also incredibly high. Take recruitment, for example. With the salaries Futong Commerce’s stores currently offered, where were they supposed to recruit good-looking, charismatic staff? Even if they managed to hire them, they wouldn’t be able to retain them.

And you weren’t allowed to bring these problems up. Xia Jie had heard that Li Yang said in a meeting, "Even a new company like Lianyanghe Commerce can recruit so many excellent employees. We’re a huge company with such a great platform for support, and you can’t even recruit people? That’s just your own incompetence."

Based on all this, the NLB position meant immense pressure; the boss had set her up with a minefield of problems. Xia Jie didn’t believe she could change the current situation. The issues weren’t things she could resolve at her level—they stemmed from company policy. But no one would dare bring that up, and even if they did, Li Yang would never accept it.

This was probably a common affliction among most bosses; ask them to give the team a raise, and you might as well be asking for their life.
