Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?

Chapter 170 - 169: Where Are You Taking Me?

"You’re all gloomy over this?"

Xia Jie turned her head to look at Yang Hui, who was driving with a relaxed and carefree air. She pursed her lips and said, "You think this isn’t worth worrying about? I can already imagine how miserable my life is going to be. I won’t get the money, and I’ll be criticized every day."

"I’ve noticed you people love to overthink things. Just do your best. If it really comes down to it, and the company doesn’t see your results and treats you unfairly, you can just quit, can’t you? If they don’t want me here, some other place will."

"Hey, Manager Yang, where are you taking me?"

"We’ve got nothing to do this afternoon, so I’m taking you for a foot massage. We can chat for a bit."

"Wh-what—" Like a startled rabbit, Xia Jie clutched the front of her dress with both hands, looking terribly nervous.

They were friendly, but not *that* friendly. Taking her for a foot massage during work hours... What kind of move was this? Xia Jie couldn’t process it.

"What’s the matter? Don’t overthink it. We can’t just talk in the car all afternoon, can we? I’ve got nothing to do right now, so I’m finding a place to lie down for a while. I’m giving you the chance to keep me company."

’Giving *me* a chance?’ Xia Jie looked at him as if life had lost all meaning.

’Isn’t he just strong-arming me?’ But she was already in his car and didn’t know how to say no.

Xia Jie stood blushing in the lobby of Yuzu Xuan. The pleats of her skirt swayed gently in the air-conditioned breeze, like the petals of a daisy damp with dew. The light filtered through the thin cotton fabric, outlining her exquisite S-curve—the stark contrast between her slender waist and full bust seemed to blend a girl’s innocence with a woman’s allure into a form of forbidden temptation.

"Will the two of you be having a massage or a foot soak?"

Yang Hui looked toward Xia Jie. "Which one do you want?"

Xia Jie’s face was flushed, and she was completely flustered. She couldn’t even hear him clearly; her mind was buzzing. She only knew he was asking her something and subconsciously replied, "Anything’s fine, anything’s fine."

’Anything’s fine?’ Yang Hui turned back to the manager and said, "The massage and the foot soak, then."

Once they were in the room, the manager asked again, "Which package would you two like?"

Xia Jie glanced up at the services listed on the wall—names like "Soaring Dragon" and so on. She had no idea what any of it meant, and simply heard Yang Hui say, "We’ll take the most expensive one."

After the manager left, Yang Hui saw Xia Jie still standing blankly by the entrance, looking hesitant. Knowing she was uncomfortable, he walked over, took her small hand, and said, "Don’t be nervous."

Xia Jie couldn’t help but shudder. With him holding her hand, she grew even more tense; it felt like her heart was pounding like a drum.

{’This is bad, this is bad. What do I do now? If I leave, Manager Yang will get mad, right? But if I stay, this is just too humiliating.’}

"Xia Jie, go take a shower and change into the disposable clothes they provide. Otherwise, you’ll wrinkle your dress, and you might get essential oil on it."

’A shower, too?’ Xia Jie’s face flushed bright red all the way to the tips of her ears.

{’He wants me to take a shower? While I’m in the same room with him, he wants me to go take a shower?’}

"Hurry up and go. What are you standing there for? Do you need my help?"

Xia Jie jumped in fright. "No! No, I can do it myself." With that, she bolted into the bathroom.

He shook his head. What on earth possessed him to lure Xia Jie here? The one he should have brought was Shen Meng, or failing that, Zhu Jing or Huang Lingyu. As for Liu Shasha, there’d be no need for luring; she’d come running with just one phone call.

Why had he even thought of bringing Xia Jie? He hadn’t had any ulterior motives, really. His original intention was just a foot massage and a chat, but now they were in a private massage room, about to get a full-body essential oil treatment.

Inside the steamy bathroom, Xia Jie’s floral long dress was already hanging on a hook on the frosted glass door, the damp fabric clinging to the frame. The stream from the showerhead slid down her slender neck, pooling in the hollow of her collarbone.

In the steam, her silhouette was distorted by the glass into exaggerated proportions. The curve of her waist and hips made the frosted pattern seem to ripple and wave.

Yang Hui admired the beautiful scene through the glass, a rush of heat going through him.

Suddenly, Xia Jie let out a scream from inside. "Ah—!"

He strode to the bathroom door. "What’s wrong, Xia Jie?"

"It’s nothing, it’s nothing! Don’t come in," she said in a panic.

Yang Hui looked through the glass again. Her silhouette was now clearly wrapped in a bath towel. He instantly understood why she had screamed: she must have suddenly realized that even with the door closed, her general shape was visible from the outside while she was showering.

She had cried out from embarrassment and panic. Yang Hui smirked inwardly. This had closed the distance between them. Some things, you just get used to them by doing them.

Just as he was about to return to the sofa, Xia Jie cried out again from inside. He turned back to hear her say, "I didn’t grab the clothes."

"Should I get them for you, or do you want to come out and get them yourself? I can turn my back and not look."

Xia Jie was on the verge of tears. She’d already fallen for his trick by getting in his car and letting him bring her here. How could she possibly trust him now? If he "accidentally" turned around, he would see everything.

"You... you get them for me."

He found the disposable clothes in the cabinet and picked up a pair of disposable underwear. It was the simplest kind imaginable—so flimsy that when he stretched it between two fingers, he figured it would rip with the slightest force.

He went to the bathroom door and knocked. Through the glass, he could see Xia Jie’s silhouette tighten the towel around her body with both hands, then step to one side and gently open the door just a crack.

"Relax, I’m not coming in. Look how scared you are. Do you think I’m that sort of person?"

Xia Jie remained silent. ’That sort of person?’ Right now, she was wondering if he was even human. She rustled around inside, changing her clothes. When she saw the disposable underwear Yang Hui had brought her, she was mortified. It was white and practically transparent. What was the difference between wearing it and wearing nothing? It wouldn’t even cover the important parts.
