Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?
Chapter 191 - 176: Either Stupid or Malicious (Part 2)Yinlu · Xiang? Huang Lingyu was certainly familiar with the place. Zheng Lei had treated her there last time, and she also knew that Yang Hui had a VIP card for complimentary dining. ’That stylish woman I saw must be the owner of Yinlu · Xiang,’ she thought.
The store had exceeded its sales target last month, so a budget had been approved for a sales team event. That was the occasion for tonight; Director Wang was taking everyone out for a team dinner at Yinlu · Xiang.
She glanced at the time. Yang Hui had said he would be at Xinyue Square at 4:00 p.m. It wasn’t even noon yet, but she was already counting down the hours.

Dan Biao and Zhang Li arrived at Li Yang’s office. He watched them enter, his face a grim mask, and didn’t say a word. It was the calm before the storm.
"I told you to poach employees from Yanghe Commerce and to get your own staff in order, but I have yet to see any changes."
His voice was sinister. To the two men, it carried a chill that seemed to emanate from the eighteenth level of hell.
Dan Biao replied, "President Li, we went to the NLB on the first floor of Xinyue Square yesterday to investigate. We found out the details of their compensation packages."
Li Yang remained silent, a cold smile playing on his lips as he stared at Dan Biao. It was a look that seemed to say ’go on,’ yet was filled with extreme displeasure. Dan Biao had no idea that Li Yang had been stewing in anger all morning and was now taking it all out on the operations department.
"Their entry-level sales associates get a base salary of 5,000, a 5% sales commission, full social insurance and housing fund contributions, and eight days off per month."
Dan Biao said it all in one breath, hoping the information would grab Li Yang’s attention. He wondered if his boss would finally realize that the fundamental difference in their employees’ quality was due to the disparity in compensation. After all, generous rewards attract capable people. As long as you paid enough, you could recruit any talent you wanted.
Dan Biao even made a comparison in his head. ’If you offer a bride price of one billion, you might be able to marry Liu Tianxian. But if you’re only willing to spend ten thousand, you’ll probably end up with Liu Luogu.’
When he finished, he and Zhang Li stared intently at Li Yang, expecting him to announce a major increase in their own NLB staff’s compensation or a more aggressive poaching policy. Instead, Li Yang said coldly, "Are you finished spinning your little fairy tale? You think all bosses are idiots, don’t you? You really expect me to believe this bullshit?"
"Where did you get this information?"
Dan Biao quickly explained, "Our new supervisor, Xia Jie, got it from an NLB employee yesterday."
"This supervisor is either stupid or malicious. Let me tell you why. Have you ever seen sales associates get benefits like that anywhere? No, right? A business has to turn a profit. Take Futong Commerce, for example. I have 2,000 sales associates. If every one of them got a 5,000-yuan base salary, my monthly expenses would go up by six million. That’s 72 million a year. What kind of business would I be running? The money I make wouldn’t even be enough to cover payroll."
Dan Biao wanted to argue, but he held his tongue. Li Yang’s logic was based on the premise that sales figures would remain static. He hadn’t considered the creative potential that could be unleashed—the added value that could be generated—once people were properly motivated. He knew Li Yang, and he knew it was pointless. Li Yang would just retort, "If I give you a 5,000 base salary, can you guarantee you’ll double my sales?"
That was a decision for the boss to make. As a mere employee, all he had to do was execute orders. Making suggestions like that would only get him a tongue-lashing and accomplish nothing.
"Do you see now why I said she’s either stupid or malicious? It’s absolutely impossible. Any company offering that kind of package—full benefits and eight days off—would operate at a loss. So, why would she report this to you? Either she was fooled, which makes her stupid, or she’s trying to trick the company into giving raises, which makes her malicious.
"But what I didn’t expect is that you two would be just as stupid. You can’t even understand something so simple, yet you came running to me with it. Do you have brains in your heads?"
Dan Biao and Zhang Li exchanged a look and fell silent. ’Would that company really be losing money?’ At a time like this, Li Yang was deliberately avoiding their daily sales figures of 150,000 and 180,000. When it came down to it, he was just instinctively opposed to the mere mention of raises. He immediately fell back on his "everyone is out to get the king" mentality.
"As for this Xia Jie, you need to re-evaluate whether she is fit to manage NLB. I don’t want her turning my team into a bunch of people who are either stupid or malicious."
"Furthermore, let me tell you something. Even if Yanghe Commerce’s compensation is a *little* better than ours, don’t forget that we’re a company with one billion in annual revenue. They’re just a small outfit with a single store. To put it bluntly, their boss is on the same level as one of our store managers. You can’t just compare their strengths to our weaknesses while completely ignoring our advantages.
"After all these years, I honestly don’t know how you still haven’t learned. You fail to poach a single person and nearly shatter your own team’s morale in the process. I’m too busy right now, and it’s beneath my position to go after a sales associate. Otherwise, if I went over there myself, I’d have them poached in an instant. You believe that, don’t you?"
"We believe you, we believe you!"
’Believe you, my ass. If you don’t want to spend the money, just say so. What’s with all this bullshit? You won’t lower your expectations for us, but you won’t give us the budget, either. Are you trying to pull this PUA crap on me? Who the fuck believes you? Whatever, you’re the boss. Say what you want. It’s not like you can dock my pay over it anyway.’
Just then, a notification sound chimed from Li Yang’s phone.
He glanced at it and muttered instinctively, "It’s a message from President Song at NLB headquarters."
As he read the message, his expression grew uglier and uglier. Li Yang’s fingertip rapped sharply on a report on his desk, sending the A4 sheet of paper flying.
