Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?

Chapter 194 - 177: Running Out in Tears

"Or do you think a company like ours, with over a billion in annual sales, should be losing to some dinky little company that just opened and only has one store?"

At first glance, his words seemed to make sense. Or rather, from Li Yang’s perspective, they did. Why should a huge company like Futong Commerce lose to Yanghe Commerce?

But Xia Jie was just too naive, and she was worried for the store. If Li Yang pushed this policy through, every employee at the NLB Store would suffer. She was timid, but for the sake of her colleagues’ interests, she mustered her courage and argued, "President Li, first, Yanghe Commerce’s high performance metrics are the result of objective factors like their grand opening and the mall’s shopping subsidies. If we’re going to compare, we should look at their metrics when their operations have stabilized.

"Second, our employees’ morale is indeed lower than Yanghe Commerce’s, and the quality of our staff isn’t as high either. A key issue here is that Yanghe Commerce’s employees are paid very well, which gives them a strong sense of belonging to the company, and they execute company directives flawlessly. Our employees, on the other hand, earn less than a third of what they do. It’s hard to recruit high-quality talent, and because of the low pay, our current employees’ minds aren’t entirely focused on their jobs. As a result, many of the company’s management directives aren’t properly implemented."

"Alright, alright! To put it bluntly, under Dan Biao’s leadership, you people in the operations department have all become a bunch of cowards."

Li Yang cut Xia Jie off. His face was livid, his eyes bloodshot. Xia Jie glanced at him and felt fear creep back into her heart.

"All you ever do is look for external excuses! I think you’re just shirking responsibility for your own incompetence. All you ever know how to do is ask the company for money. But the company pays you to make money for it! If I could build this company up just by throwing money around, what would I need you for? Anyone can spend money!"

"Xiaodan, Zhang Li, and you, Xiaoxia, I’m done wasting my breath on you. Just do as I say and have the store sign the betting agreement. If the store’s employees agree, it means they still have some backbone. You’ll lead them, work hard, and try to win that 2,000 yuan bonus. If they get emotional because they’re afraid of being punished for failing, then we don’t need useless trash like that anyway. Let them resign. For a company as big as ours, how hard can it be to hire a few people?

"Any questions? Let me make myself clear: anyone who has a problem can get the hell out. I don’t want any gutless cowards here."

The final sentence was dripping with menace. Dan Biao and Zhang Li were already used to his routine, but Xia Jie felt incredibly wronged. ’How can this boss be so obstinate and self-important? How can he be so disrespectful of the facts? Running a business is about building things up bit by bit every day. It’s about persisting in doing the right things and correcting mistakes as you find them. Growth is a natural result that comes after accumulating these small efforts over time.’

’Relying on shouting slogans, on hot-headed displays of loyalty, and on unrealistic promises won’t solve any problems. It will only make them more complicated.’

"Xiaodan, do you have a problem with this?"

"No problem, President Li."

After Dan Biao answered, Xia Jie glanced at him, her eyes filled with deep disappointment.

’If Manager Yang were here, he would have definitely argued his case,’ she thought. She had never seen Yang Hui discuss work with Li Yang, but the thought of Yang Hui gave her an inexplicable sense of security.

"Zhang Li, what about you?"

"No problem, President Li. We’ll communicate this to the stores immediately and guarantee we’ll meet the company’s targets."

They were both just trying to get through the current ordeal. If things went poorly later, they could only wait for Li Yang to adjust his own plans based on the situation.

"Xiaoxia, what about you?"

A victorious smile had already spread across Li Yang’s face. Both of her superiors had agreed, so of course, there wouldn’t be any problems from Xia Jie. Just as he was about to end the conversation and send them back to manage operations, a single sentence from Xia Jie ignited his long-suppressed rage.

"I’m sorry, President Li. I can’t do this."

The instant the words left Xia Jie’s lips, Li Yang’s pupils contracted. His eyeballs, already bloodshot, grew even redder. His masseter muscles bulged like metal ridges beneath his cheekbones, and his jaws twitched with every breath, spasming like a late-stage liver cancer patient trying to endure excruciating pain.

The entire office fell into an unprecedented, dead silence. At that moment, every pore on his face seemed to be spraying a poisonous fog of power-lust that screamed, "My turf, my rules!"—and the glint from Xia Jie’s pearl earring was shattering that gloom into fragments.

"You can’t do it, is that right? You can’t do it? If you can’t do it, then don’t! I’ll have HR talk to you in a bit. Get the hell out of my sight and don’t come back."

His voice grew louder and sharper with each word. He was essentially telling Xia Jie to leave for good. He only held back from spewing actual profanities because she was a young woman and he didn’t know her that well.

But that one word, "out," was enough to make tears of indignation well up in Xia Jie’s eyes. She remembered what Yang Hui had said: "If one place won’t have you, another one will." In the past, she had always felt she could endure a bit of injustice, even when Cai Miao bullied her.

But now, with a boss like this, she felt there was truly no future for her in this company. All the grievances that had built up over so many days erupted at the sound of Li Yang’s "out."

She couldn’t take this injustice anymore. She had worked diligently for the company, her performance the best on the team, only to be called a coward by Li Yang—accused of being afraid of a challenge and unwilling to demand more of herself—all for reporting an objective problem. The more she thought about it, the more wronged she felt. With a turn of her head, she stormed out the door.
