Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?

Chapter 215 - 184: Isn’t That a Curse?

Hearing this, Xia Jie couldn’t help but retort, "A company with 160,000 in daily sales wants to poach my experience from a company that only makes 5,000 a day? I might be willing to offer it, but would they even dare to accept?"

Zhang Li was speechless. It wasn’t the first time the performance of this Yanghui Commerce store had put him in his place.

Dan Biao stepped in to explain, "Manager Zhang didn’t mean anything by it. You gained your experience at a large corporation, so it’s best for you to find another large platform. After all, large platforms offer stability. A small company can’t pay you much, and the room for advancement is limited."

Xia Jie gave him an odd look but didn’t explain. Before she joined Yanghe Commerce, she had thought the exact same way as Dan Biao. So had many people she knew. When she called her family last night and told them she had resigned from Futong Trading Co., Ltd., they were worried sick.

When she told them she’d already found a new job, they remained concerned. They fretted that without a position at a large corporation, how could she find stability at a small company? Plus, the pay wouldn’t be as good. When Xia Jie told them her salary, they thought she was just lying to put their minds at ease. In the end, she had no choice but to promise to show them her pay stub next month to finally calm them down.

’She couldn’t be bothered to waste her breath on them, and she certainly wasn’t going to tell them her current salary. She knew perfectly well how she was doing; did she really need them to tell her? It was they who were at Futong Commerce, getting chewed out like dogs every day for a mediocre salary. Zhang Li’s base pay was probably only 12,000, right? His total compensation was likely less than that of the manager of this NLB store. I have no idea where they get their sense of superiority.’

’Then again, if he weren’t Li Yang’s nephew, he probably never would have reached this position or earned this salary. So for him, even 12,000 is more than he deserves, which is naturally why he clings to it.’

’And Dan Biao? He’s followed Li Yang for over a decade and has grown accustomed to Futong Commerce’s corporate culture. He probably wouldn’t be able to adapt if he left for another company. As for being berated by Li Yang, he’s been used to that for more than ten years. He’d probably feel weird if a day went by *without* getting chewed out.’

’I heard Dan Biao’s base salary is under 20,000, which is probably about the same as mine now. And if you count total compensation, he might make even less than I do. Yet here they are, putting on this show of being concerned that my income is too low to survive. They’ve been so thoroughly brainwashed by Li Yang that they can’t even see the world for what it is anymore.’

Seeing that Xia Jie was barely paying them any mind, Zhang Li grew annoyed, and Dan Biao felt a bit awkward. But in the interest of gathering intel on the competition, he asked, "Xia Jie, what are your sales so far today?"

There was no need to hide that figure, since the sales report would be sent out tomorrow anyway. "A little over 50,000."

Dan Biao and Zhang Li exchanged a look, both seeing the shock and helplessness in each other’s eyes. It was only a little after 2 p.m. At this rate, their sales today would likely approach 200,000. Zhang Li secretly glanced at his phone. The sales at Wanlong Square were at zero. They hadn’t made a single sale yet.

From the look on his face, Dan Biao knew the answer. This was utterly humiliating.

’The woman standing before me used to be my subordinate’s subordinate, and now the store she’s managing is competing directly against the one Zhang Li and I are personally overseeing. If we lose, it will be a complete disgrace. If Li Yang finds out that Xia Jie went to Yanghe Commerce and is managing NLB... he’ll humiliate me and Zhang Li to death.’

Watching the constant flow of customers, almost all of whom left with shopping bags in hand, Dan Biao felt he couldn’t stay a moment longer. He turned to Xia Jie and said, "Keep up the hard work. Learn a few more things, and maybe you’ll have a chance to come back to Futong Commerce in the future."

He led Zhang Li toward Wanlong Square, leaving Xia Jie to watch their retreating figures. ’Me? Go back to Futong Commerce? The nerve of that guy, cursing me on his way out!’

’In her mind, returning to Futong Commerce would be no different from being exiled to Ningguta.’

Her phone started buzzing nonstop again. It was a flood of messages from the managers and staff of the stores she used to oversee. She just smiled and didn’t reply to most of them.

When the news broke yesterday that she had been forced out of Futong Commerce, only three of those store managers had contacted her. The rest only reached out after she took over NLB. Though only a single night separated the events, the implications were a world apart.

Most of the people messaging her today were floundering at Futong Commerce, unhappy with their current compensation, and hoping to see if there was an opportunity for a better offer here. Opportunities certainly existed, but they weren’t for just anyone. First, you had to meet Yanghe Commerce’s hiring standards.

When Dan Biao and Zhang Li arrived at Wanlong Square and saw the state of their employees, they were dismayed. Forget comparing them to the NLB store at Yanghe Commerce; their management wasn’t even in the same league as the neighboring Airex store.

"Zhang Li, you really need to focus on NLB," Dan Biao said. "If you can’t turn this around, it won’t just be a scolding from President Li. How will you show your face when people find out the store you’re personally managing was beaten by your former subordinate—a subordinate who was forced out of the company, no less?"

Zhang Li sighed. "President Shan, I understand. But that betting agreement President Li imposed has thrown the staff into chaos. How am I supposed to manage them well?"

Dan Biao sneered, cursing inwardly, ’It’s not like you fucking said no at the time.’

Suddenly recalling something, he asked, "After you announced the betting agreement, has the staff been stable? No resignations?"

Zhang Li lowered his voice. "I announced it, but I told them we’d get the reward if we hit the target. And if we didn’t, I’d ask the company to waive the penalty. Otherwise, they would’ve all revolted by now."
