Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?

Chapter 214 - 184: Isn’t This Cursing Someone?

Li Yang had built a business worth over a billion yuan in Qingjiang Province, making him a prominent figure in the commercial world. In the past, even general managers like President Jia had been exceedingly polite to him. But now, NLB’s performance results had him feeling their contempt.

The gap was just too vast. Any excuse would be pointless.

What infuriated him most was that his social media feed was blowing up again, blanketed by post after post about Yanghe Commerce’s sales report. He had started skipping supplier gatherings, terrified someone would bring it up. It was an utter disgrace.

And to make matters worse, many of the posts were congratulatory.

"President Li, congratulations! What a huge success!"

"President Li, with results like these, your NLB store must be about to break the national record for sales efficiency."

"President Li, with performance like this, NLB Company must be planning to give you a commendation, right?"

He had no idea how to respond. It was obvious they had mistaken Yanghe Commerce’s store for one of his. Just then, his feed updated. People from NLB headquarters, including President Song, were reposting it. Serene had posted about it too.

Li Yang’s face was livid. He slammed his hand on the desk. "You two, get your asses over to the store right now! Find out what’s wrong and fix it! If daily sales ever drop below ten thousand yuan again, I’ll have you working the sales floor yourselves!"

His blood pressure was soaring. After Dan Biao and Zhang Li left, he made another call, this time to Han Chao. "Xiaohan, where are you today?"

"Boss, I’m in Sanyang City. I’m visiting the VP of business at San Yang Xinyue Square to follow up on securing a location for the NLB store."

"Good. Report back to me the second anything happens. The buzz over the last two days has been terrible for us. I’m worried it’s going to affect our ability to open new NLB stores."

’He had every reason to be worried. What mall wouldn’t want to partner with a company with a strong operational track record? A strong operator not only contributes to the mall’s sales performance, but they can also afford higher rent. That leaves room for rent increases down the line.’

He got up, walked over to the thermostat, and lowered the temperature again. He felt like his blood pressure had been climbing for the past two days. He was irritable and quick to anger, flying off the handle at the slightest provocation.

Dan Biao and Zhang Li left the office. "Zhang Li, get your things," Dan Biao said. "The boss wants us to find the cause, so let’s go investigate. We’ll check out both the Yanghe Commerce store and our own."

As Zhang Li returned to his desk, he overheard a few supervisors talking. "Why would Xia Jie post Yanghe Commerce’s sales report?"

"Yeah, didn’t she just resign yesterday? You don’t think she started a new job today, do you? At Yanghe Commerce?"

The news spread like wildfire, and soon the entire company knew. Zhu Jing glanced back at Yang Hui. ’She knew it,’ she thought. ’Xia Jie going to Yanghe Commerce had to be his doing. It was only to be expected.’

’To be honest, she was looking forward to the day she could leave this place too. She really loved the work environment at Yanghe Commerce. But for now, she could still do store visits with him every day. Besides, he needed her here. She couldn’t leave just yet.’

Hearing the news, Zhang Li immediately opened his social media feed. Sure enough, he saw Xia Jie’s post. A wave of indignation washed over him.

’What the hell was Li Yang thinking?’ he fumed. ’He drove out one of his own supervisors and basically handed her to Yanghe Commerce. And he won’t even consider his own part in it. Why didn’t he step in to defend his subordinate? Instead, he just kicked her while she was down.’

Serene finally had a chance to get a good look at Yanghe Commerce’s operations. From its corporate culture to its front-line management policies, the more she learned, the more she liked it. But one question puzzled her. "The standards are so high, yet the employees don’t have a single complaint. How do you manage that?"

Xia Jie gave a knowing smile. "The boss doesn’t skimp on his employees. Their compensation is more than generous, and they get plenty of time off. That ensures they can give their all during work hours. Work hard, rest well, live well—that’s the philosophy."

She went on to explain to Serene the salary, benefits, and time-off policies for each employee level. As expected, anyone who heard it found it hard to believe. For example, in this store, assuming monthly sales of one million yuan (a figure that was likely to increase given their current performance), even a P1-level junior sales associate could earn nearly 10,000 yuan a month. On top of that, they received a top-tier social security and housing fund package—benefits that were usually reserved for management at most other companies.

And on top of all that, they only worked half-day shifts and still got an additional eight days off per month. You couldn’t find benefits like that anywhere else in the world. No wonder the employees cherished their jobs so much, followed the company’s management policies to the letter, and even competed with each other to exceed what was required of them.

’In the long run, what a formidable company this would become.’ Serene had always been a calm and steady person, but right now, she could feel her heart begin to pound. The more she learned, the more she liked it. She was incredibly interested in the company Yang Hui had built. ’If Yang Hui doesn’t extend an invitation,’ she thought, ’I might just have to volunteer myself.’

The two chatted inside the store for a while before Serene took her leave. Xia Jie walked her out, then stood outside for a moment, observing the interior. It was always easier to spot minor issues from an external perspective.

"Xia Jie!"

She turned to see Dan Biao and Zhang Li. She offered a polite smile and a nod. Although she wasn’t happy to see them, it wasn’t as if they were mortal enemies.

Dan Biao forced a smile. "I never expected you to end up at Yanghe Commerce."

’What a strange thing to say,’ she thought. ’After leaving Futong Commerce, I could have gone anywhere.’ Just then, her phone chimed. It was a flood of congratulatory texts from the store managers she’d had dinner with the previous night. They had clearly seen the sales report she’d shared earlier.

Zhang Li sneered from the side. "Working at a big company guarantees a stable income, and you can learn and grow. But at a small-time operation with just one store? They’ll just squeeze you for all the management experience you gained at a real company. Once they’ve wrung you dry, you’ll be kicked to the curb."
