Chapter 344: Chapter 247: A Sudden Message
It would take some time for Teacher Lü’s Residual Soul to coalesce. Han Ning called over a teacher who was watching nearby and gave him a few instructions, telling him to post a guard by Teacher Lü. Then, without a moment’s rest, Han Ning hurried back to the basement.
Many people were still there, waiting for treatment.
After Teacher Lü Xiuning came Teacher Liu Yueming, who had been in a coma for even longer.
Back during the academy’s first-ever expedition, Teacher Liu Yueming’s team had accidentally entered a set of Insect-man ruins. They were attacked by the swarm inside, which caused him to fall into a coma.
When Han Ning touched his finger to Teacher Liu’s forehead and used the Soul-Vibrating Technique to analyze the cause of the coma, he made an unexpected discovery. Teacher Liu’s Spiritual Power hadn’t actually dissipated. It was as if it had been sealed or had fallen into a deep dormancy, losing all vitality. This wasn’t the soul-loss Han Ning had imagined.
This overjoyed Han Ning. If the soul was still in the body, Teacher Liu Yueming’s condition would be much easier to treat than he’d anticipated.
He carefully searched his memories for relevant knowledge and finally found a solution.
’So that’s it. When those little insects bite their enemies, they inject an extremely faint Spiritual Poison. This causes the victim’s Spiritual Power to enter a self-preservation state, resulting in a coma. All I have to do is use my own Spiritual Power to continuously stimulate Teacher Liu’s in a specific way, and I can help him wake up.’
There were specific methods for stimulating a Spiritual World. It couldn’t be done with brute force; one had to follow a specific pattern.
And so, following the method recorded in the Soul-Vibrating Technique, Han Ning essentially transformed his Spiritual Power into fine needles, performing a special kind of "acupuncture" on Teacher Liu’s brain.
An unknown amount of time passed.
As the saying goes, it is easier to kill a man than to save one.
Just by treating Teacher Liu, whose Spiritual Power had yet to reach Tier One, Han Ning had already expended over 20% of his own.
A twitch suddenly ran across the comatose Teacher Liu’s pale cheek. His tightly shut eyelids trembled slightly, and then, slowly, he opened his eyes.
His eyes were filled with confusion. He stared blankly at the ceiling, his gaze unfocused, as if his brain was rapidly trying to process everything that had happened.
After a few minutes, the light gradually returned to Teacher Liu’s eyes. They focused on Han Ning, and a look of surprise crossed his face. "Han... Han Ning?"
"Teacher Liu, you’re finally awake," Han Ning said with a smile.
...
For two days straight, Han Ning spent his days in the basement, treating the various complex conditions of the comatose members.
At night, he would meet with the others from the academy to discuss their evacuation plan.
Two days later, he had examined every last one of the comatose members. With the exception of a few who were beyond saving and declared dead, 18 of the 23 comatose individuals now had a hope of recovery, including Lü Xiuning and Liu Yueran.
He called it "hope" because the treatment process was far from over. The coalescence of a Residual Soul required a great deal of time and could not be rushed.
「On the evening of the third day, in the conference room.」
"The candidates for the Spiritual Array study group have been selected. There are thirty in total. I have appointed Mr. Leon as the team’s captain and Professor Zeng Ling as the vice-captain. The members include Liang Nan, Lena, Nia, Chen Linyu..."
Professor Zeng Ling was the elderly professor who had developed the subterranean exploration vehicle that helped Han Ning search for geothermal resources.
He was sixty years old and had been just one month away from retirement before the transmigration. But alas...
Now, after cultivating his Spiritual Power, Professor Zeng’s Spiritual Power Level had reached Spiritual Tier One. Han Ning had noticed that many of the academy’s older teachers—those in their fifties and approaching sixty—were surprisingly fast at practicing the Spiritual Meditation Technique. He wondered if it was because, with age, they had learned to take things less seriously.
In truth, not many of the older teachers had survived the transmigration. The initial corrosion from the first wave of Gray Mist had claimed the lives of those with weaker constitutions.
Those who remained were all strong and healthy, seniors who exercised regularly and whose bodies were no weaker than those of men in their prime.
Furthermore, because everyone took special care of the older teachers during expeditions, they had suffered zero casualties. Including Dean Wu, there were six teachers over the age of fifty at the start of the transmigration, and all six were still alive.
"Of the thirty people, sixteen are Tier Two Beastmasters, and the rest are Tier One. It can’t be helped... Unlike with a Soul Beast breakthrough, the growth of Spiritual Power is just too slow." After speaking, Dean Wu glanced at Han Ning.
"Sixteen is already quite good, actually."
Hearing this, Han Ning realized that nearly every Beast Master from the combat squads had been selected for the array study group. They were essentially being asked to pull double duty.
There was no other choice; they were simply too short-handed.
Becoming a Tier Two Beastmaster wasn’t easy. Han Ning recalled that his own rapid breakthrough had only been possible because he had used a large amount of Concentration Liquid and allocated points via his status panel. Reaching Tier Three had been thanks to his Soul Beast’s successive evolutions and the boost from his Four Symbols Meditation Technique.
’Compared to me... they’re the real geniuses...’
Han Ning sighed to himself but nodded on the outside and said,
"Let them start with the training. Later, I’ll find a few trustworthy Dragon Blood People to come learn with them."
In a corner of the conference room, Liu Yueming, who had only recently awakened, listened with a look of utter confusion as everyone discussed matters he couldn’t comprehend at all.
’He’d only been in a coma for about a month. How could so much have changed?’
When the speakers finished and a momentary silence fell over the room, he couldn’t help but raise his hand. "I... Is there anything I can do?" he asked.
Dean Wu looked at him with concern. "Yue Ming, just spend the next few days getting reacquainted with how things are at the academy. You can tell me which group you want to join later. Your health isn’t great right now, so focus on getting some rest."
"Alright, I understand."
After the meeting, Han Ning led the thirty members of the Spiritual Array study group to a smaller conference room next door.
With a flex of his Spiritual Power, Fei Lin’s figure slowly emerged from a rift.
Looking at the many eager faces before him, Han Ning cleared his throat. He pointed to the grotesque, terrifying eyeball on Fei Lin’s arm, which was darting in all directions. "I’m sure you all know Fei Lin," he began. "Let me introduce you. This is Lady Hom. She is a wisp of a Residual Soul residing within this Biological Armor. In life, she was a powerful Beast Master from the Witch Spirit Race. She is also Fei Lin’s mother."
"From now on, she will be teaching you the Alatake and Witch Spirit Languages, as well as the Spiritual Array knowledge of both races."
Hom had been a prisoner of the Alataku People for millennia, so she naturally understood the Alatake Language and even had some knowledge of their Spiritual Arrays. Furthermore, as a member of the Witch Spirit Race, her own understanding of Spiritual Arrays surpassed that of the Alataku. She was the perfect person to be their teacher.
"Welcome, Teacher Huo!" CLAP, CLAP, CLAP.
At his words, everyone began to clap, welcoming their unconventional new teacher.
Han Ning sent the next message to everyone via a spiritual fluctuation. "As a Residual Soul, Hom can only be awake for ten hours a day. Her emotions can also become quite chaotic because she is incomplete. I hope you can all be patient with her mood swings. If anything unexpected happens, Fei Lin will notify me through our Spiritual Link."
Hom’s eyeball darted about without pause. She observed this peculiar human welcoming ritual, and it was impossible to know what she was feeling deep in her "heart."
After a few seconds of silence, a peculiar spiritual fluctuation entered each of their minds.
"I will conduct all my lectures via spiritual transmission. If you have a question, shout it out in your human tongue. I can understand you. My mental state is unstable. Do not interrupt the transmission, or you will affect my stability and may cause consequences that even I cannot predict."
Just as Hom began her lesson with the students, a message from Fei Lie, who was stationed with the Red Centipede Tribe, arrived in Han Ning’s mind:
"Master, we have a situation in the tribe. The Insect Master of the Cyan God Armor is here!"
