Chapter 356: Chapter 253: Befriending (Part 2)

In the end, after much persuasion, Qingyao took two Monarch Level Wood Type Spirit Crystals but refused to accept any more.

Han Ning had no choice but to drop it.

...

「The next afternoon.」

In a newly prepared classroom at the academy.

"Rumor has it that the Alataku People possess the blood of Demons. This is why their physical constitution and control over Spiritual Energy far surpass other races. Even we Witch Spirit Beastmasters, who cultivate according to the Natural Laws, can’t match their understanding of Dark Energy."

"Because of their differing Demon bloodlines, the Alatak are divided into more than a dozen divisions. The three most powerful among them are known as the Upper Three Divisions. They are the Flying Blade Division, who worship the Weapon Demon; the Mars Division, who possess the bloodline of the Greed Demon; and the Meteor Division, who revere the Destruction Demon."

A tall young woman, standing at 1.8 meters, had her hands behind her back as she slowly recounted some common knowledge about the Alataku People in the Alatake Language.

Azure patterns, like translucent gemstones, were inlaid on both of her cheeks.

She wore a long black dress woven from countless black sinews, giving her an appearance that was both elegant and slightly sinister.

The young woman speaking was none other than Hom. When Han Ning returned to the academy, his All-Encompassing Spiritual Silkworm had just achieved a breakthrough. Hom had him use the Silkworm’s Simulation Ability to create a Flesh Puppet, an exact replica of her appearance in life, which she now commanded with her Spiritual Power.

This Flesh Puppet was vastly different from a real living being. It had no true brain and lacked complex internal organs, making it a type of consumable.

"Teacher Hom, what exactly are Demons? Do they come from the Netherworld?" a student asked, raising their hand.

"No, Demons are creatures of the Main World. Furthermore, they are the most powerful Soul Beasts in existence and possess intelligence on par with Beast Masters. However, due to certain restrictions, they can only live in the deep Abyss and cannot come to the surface."

"The deep Abyss?"

"Correct. The Abyss is divided into shallow, middle, and deep layers. Its entrances are generally located on the periphery of the subterranean Star Core. It’s a Subspace attached to the Main World, but unlike the Netherworld, creatures from inside and outside the Abyss can travel freely between the two realms... To use an analogy, the Abyss is more like a tumor on the Main World; it cannot exist independently," Hom explained.

"’Demons are just Soul Beasts. That’s quite different from the insidious, cunning, and highly intelligent demons on Blue Star,’" Han Ning said thoughtfully. "Based on what you’ve said, if the Alataku People have Demon blood, does that mean they’re technically a special kind of Demon—a type of Soul Beast?"

Hom gave him a look of approval.

"You’re not wrong. The Alatake Clan can, in fact, be considered a branch of the Demons."

She seemed to recall something amusing and chuckled.

"For an intelligent race to have Demon blood... it’s really hard to say whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing."

"What do you mean by that?" Han Ning asked, his curiosity piqued.

Hom cleared her throat.

"Demons have volatile temperaments. They can be cold and merciless, short-tempered and irritable, or insidious and cruel... or have vigorous libidos. In short, very few types of Demons possess normal emotions. They are the embodiment of the world’s negative energies."

"This has also led to the Alataku People generally not having very good tempers."

"According to our research, the Alatake Clan is primarily divided into five major branches: the Weapon, Greed, Destruction, Envy, and Cataclysm bloodlines."

"The direct bloodlines of Envy and Cataclysm are not found among the Alatak, so these two branches are relatively weaker and only occupy the middle tier."

"The Weapon branch excels at raising Fire-attribute Soul Beasts, which are lively and violent. The Beast Masters of this branch are skilled at creating various special Soul Artifacts and have a penchant for war. The Spiritual Energy Circuits they inscribe on their Soul Artifacts are called Demon Patterns, and they come with various negative interference abilities."

"The Greed branch controls resources and is good at raising Elemental Soul Beasts. Their Elemental Control surpasses that of the other divisions. Some of the Spiritual Arrays you are learning originated from them."

"The Destruction branch is similar to the Weapon branch in their love for battle. The difference is that the Destruction branch is not skilled at crafting devices, but they are the branch with the most superior individual constitution among the Alatake Clan. They possess Extraordinary Spiritual Talent and are innately able to form contracts with a wide variety of powerful Demons. The Witch Spirit Race has another name for this branch—the Children of the Demon."

Han Ning frowned. "...From the sound of it, are there no Alatake Clan members with normal tempers?"

"Of course there are. Without rational individuals, the Alatak could not have charged out of the deep Abyss to reach the surface and occupy three continents."

"There is a strange phenomenon. Among the Upper Three Divisions, every few decades, some Alataku People are born with intelligence far surpassing their peers. These individuals are exceptionally brilliant, and they form the central department that controls the entire Alatake Clan."

"Internally, the Alatak call it the Demon King’s Court."

"So that means our human physiques are the worst... We can’t even compare to Insect Masters who are born without Spiritual Talent," a student couldn’t help but exclaim.

"No..." Hom shook her head. "The worst are we of the Witch Spirit Race."

"Huh? What do you mean?" The students’ expressions all shifted in unison.

They never expected Hom, a member of the Witch Spirit Race, to personally admit that her race’s physical constitution was the frailest.

This came as a great surprise to everyone present.

"I have observed you humans. An adult human can at least hold their own against the weakest Entry Level Soul Beast for a while, and can even kill them with tools. But an ordinary member of the Witch Spirit Race... we cannot defeat an Entry Level Soul Beast with just our bodies and primitive tools."

Hom’s face showed no fluctuation of emotion. Her azure pupils were like ten-thousand-year-old ice, cold and stunningly beautiful.

"The physique of the Witch Race is rather special. Most of the flesh and blood Energy in our bodies is used to constrain our Spiritual Energy, which is why our bodies are so frail."

"Then... you must have your strengths, right?" Nia asked, tilting her head.

She was the only Insect-man present. To be honest, she felt rather insecure being among this group of Extraordinary humans who could awaken a Talent just by breaking through to Tier One Spiritual Power.

"That’s right. It’s like that saying... When God closes a door, he opens a window," Zhao Jingjing added in agreement.

"Of course we do. Due to our greater affinity for Spiritual Energy, we, like Soul Beasts, can unleash Soul Techniques with a far greater intensity than other intelligent races. As for the power of these Soul Techniques... a particularly talented individual is only half a level weaker than their Contracted Soul Beast."

"Moreover, we are innately able to analyze the Spiritual Energy Circuits in nature and on Soul Beasts to create simple Arrays. Although our bodies are frail, we can use Soul Techniques to launch Spiritual Energy attacks of considerable power," Hom replied.

"Only half a level weaker?!" Han Ning was somewhat surprised.

’Doesn’t that mean a Witch Spirit Person commanding a War General Level Soul Beast in battle can also unleash destructive power on par with the War General Level... A double enhancement, double the damage.’

"So in the end, are we humans the worst off?" the students murmured, breaking into a nervous sweat.

Hom shook her head.

"No. Although humans’ physiques are not as robust as those of the Alataku People or even the Insect-men, and your Spiritual Energy sensitivity is weaker than the Witch Spirit Race’s, you reign supreme when it comes to Spiritual Power. I have never seen any race whose Spiritual Cultivation speed is so fast. Practically every Beast Master awakens a Spiritual Talent. This might be related to you being a short-lived species... A high reproductive rate, rapid spiritual growth, and balanced abilities. A race like that... impossible to kill, impossible to exterminate. It’s terrifying!"

As she spoke, a flicker of apprehension appeared in her otherwise emotionless pupils.

"In you, I see a shadow of the Purple Crystal Race."

"The Purple Crystal? What’s that?" the students asked, extremely curious.

Faced with their questions, Hom unexpectedly just shook her head.

"Time is limited, so I won’t go into detail about other races. We’ll continue our continental general knowledge lesson tomorrow. For now, let’s return to the Alatake Clan. Today, we will be learning a common Array used by the Alataku People called Metal Mending. It is generally used on consumable Soul Artifacts... and it also has a special effect on Metal-type Soul Beasts."
