Wilderness: I Tame Beasts to Survive
Chapter 386 - 268: Leave None Alive (Part 2)Chapter 386: Chapter 268: Leave None Alive (Part 2)
"High Priest, there’s news from the front."
Fei Lie received the report from one of his men. Immediately after, several Insect Servants were brought before them.
"Reporting to the High Priest. The situation ahead is under control. A portion of the white mist at the target location has been dispersed, and we have the death toll under preliminary control. However, we are short on manpower and need more support."
"Have you counted how many people there are?" Fei Lie asked.
"High Priest, there are many of them—possibly over a thousand. We can only do our best to keep them from running around in a panic."
"Mm, understood." Fei Lie nodded. He looked at Dean Wu, Qing Fan, and the dozen or so mixed humans and Dragon Blood Race members in their party, and said with a slight smile, "Everyone, let’s move out."
However... what they didn’t know was...
They had just mounted various Soul Beasts and flown out of the area under the Red Centipede Tribe Commander’s control.
High above in the clouds, a pair of eyes was silently watching their movements.
When the owner of the eyes saw Dean Wu and Qing Fan in the group, an expression of utter astonishment appeared on his face. ’An Alien Race... Qing Fan of the Dragon Blood Race... what a surprising discovery!’
He dared not delay. Instantly, he shot higher, burning all his Spiritual Power to become a dark green meteor streaking into the distance.
...
The place where the humans had appeared.
Cang Lin raised his head.
A dark green meteor rapidly grew larger.
Soon, it transformed into a sturdy beetle, hovering before him.
Cang Huan was panting, his face full of elation as he shouted:
"Brother Cang Lin, a major discovery! A few people who look exactly like this group of the Alien Race, plus Qing Fan of the Dragon Blood Race, are on their way here! They’re moving fast. I’m worried there might be experts in Qing Fan’s group. Should we notify the Clan Leader?"
"Father went to the Queen’s Divine Hall a few days ago and can’t get away. I remember Seventh Uncle is the closest. You hold the fort here; I’ll go get him."
"If they arrive early, take everyone and leave. Hide further away and observe. It will take them some time to move this batch of the Alien Race, which should be enough for Seventh Uncle to get here."
Cang Lin’s face was also filled with delight. ’Qing Fan... now that’s a big fish. If I can capture him, on top of the discovery of the Alien Race, my position as Clan Leader will be secure.’
"Cang Huan, I’m leaving this to you. You must watch them closely! After this is done, you’ll definitely be well-rewarded!"
"Yes, I understand!" Cang Huan’s face lit up with joy, and he nodded vigorously.
「An hour and a half later.」
On the horizon, a dozen or so intersecting streaks of red and green light appeared.
Dean Wu and Qing Fan, riding various Soul Beasts, broke through the white mist.
A massive cruise ship suddenly came into everyone’s view.
Unlike the curiosity and confusion of the Dragon Blood Race, the humans all showed expressions of astonishment.
"Dean, it’s a cruise ship! A vessel this big has to be a luxury liner!"
From within the group, Liu Yueran, who was participating in a mission for the first time after a period of rest, exclaimed in delight.
"A luxury liner can hold at least 3,000 people. There are bound to be professionals from all fields inside. We must rescue them immediately." Dean Wu’s expression was grim as he immediately gave orders to the humans in the party.
"Everyone, dispatch your Soul Beasts to provide support at once. Transport them directly to the Jade Forest."
Hearing this, Qing Fan and Fei Lie also ordered their own subordinates to assist in the relief effort.
Instantly, dense swarms of insects and packs of Soul Beasts scattered, flying downward.
Dean Wu even personally directed his Soul Beast to descend.
"Strange. Didn’t the Insect Servants from the Red Centipede Tribe say that someone from the Ancestor Family passed through? How is everything here completely fine?" Teacher Zhou, who had come along, observed the surroundings with some confusion.
"My master has already arranged for the Cyan God Armor’s Insect Masters to redeploy the Insect Masters from this area elsewhere, so everything is normal," Fei Lie explained with a smile.
’So that’s how it is... That Han Ning kid is still as capable as ever.’ Teacher Zhou muttered to Dean Wu using Spiritual Power, not even sparing Fei Lie a glance.
’The man is just a puppet, and there’s bad blood between our sides. None of us from the academy can even be bothered to acknowledge him.’
"Enough nonsense, Xiaozhou. Go use the language of the human world and call the people hiding in the cruise ship to come out."
"Yes, Dean."
Teacher Zhou mounted his Blue Jade Flying Dragon, which he had newly contracted in the Jade Forest, and flew above the white cruise ship. He then shouted in a booming voice loud enough to be heard across half the vessel:
"All passengers on the cruise ship, listen up! I am a university teacher from Xia Country. Like you, I was unfortunately transported here. This is a dangerous world, filled with all kinds of hazardous creatures completely different from humans. As fellow people, our only choice is to band together for survival..."
"Please, my fellow people, trust me and come out of your cabins. Stand on the deck and wave to signal us. Our people will come to the rescue and take you to a safe place."
Teacher Zhou circled the entire cruise ship, repeating the message several times in both the language of Xia Country and in English.
However, though he repeated it more than ten times, only about a hundred or so people trickled out onto the vast deck.
Of these hundred-plus people, the majority had black hair and yellow skin.
’What’s going on?’
This scene left all the humans on the rescue team exceptionally surprised.
He had clearly "broadcast" the message in two languages. In theory, having just been transported to a dangerous world, they should have been thrilled to hear a "hometown voice" and come out to wait for rescue.
So why... were there only a scarce hundred or so people on the ship?
"Save me! Fellow countryman, I can tell from your accent you’re one of the Minyue People! Fellow countryman, save me!"
While Teacher Zhou was feeling puzzled, down on the deck, a man with skin tanned dark by the sun was waving his arms frantically, shouting loudly in the language of Xia Country with a thick regional accent.
"I’m coming!"
Teacher Zhou directed his Flying Dragon to fly over to the man. He jumped off the Flying Dragon and looked the man up and down.
The man was wearing a white bathrobe, clearly one provided by a guest room. Curled up inside the lapels against his chest was a little girl, about two or three years old.
The little girl had a large mask on her face. Her eyes were shut tight, and she was sleeping peacefully.
Seeing the unconcealed panic and fear still mixed in the man’s expression, Teacher Zhou asked curiously:
"Brother, what’s your name? Why are there so few people on deck?"
Perhaps it was the familiar hometown accent that inspired a deep sense of trust in the man. He sobbed, his voice choked with tears:
"Monsters... Before you came, the outside of the cruise ship was swarming with giant, winged beetles and horrifying monsters with human faces and insect shells. They grabbed anyone they saw. If anyone resisted, they’d kill them on the spot and feed them to the big bugs they rode..."
The man didn’t give his name. He just kept talking to himself, his face twisting more and more, his mind showing signs of nearing a total collapse.
As Teacher Zhou listened, his expression grew increasingly grim.
He glanced around at the foul-smelling bloodstains and scattered pieces of viscera splattered across the deck and hull. His heart filled with sympathy as he said:
"It’s all over now. We’ve driven those monsters away. Get on my Flying Dragon now. In a little while, once we’ve rescued everyone, we’ll all go to a place with no danger."
"SOB... My wife, my eldest daughter... they were all killed by the monsters... SOB..."
The emotions he had held back for so long suddenly burst forth. The man sat in a pool of blood and wailed like a child.
Teacher Zhou was silent. He gently helped the man up, placed him and the child onto the Flying Dragon, and stroked the child’s head, saying softly:
"Let it all out. But you have to live on and be strong. She still needs a father."
The man didn’t speak, only continuing to weep helplessly.
After settling the emotionally shattered man, Teacher Zhou was about to go and rescue the next person.
Suddenly... from the sky above, a series of deafening booms echoed.
He looked up.
Reflected in his dark brown pupils were several enormous, dark green meteors, plummeting rapidly toward the cruise ship.
At the same time, a deafening roar, like a clap of thunder, reverberated across the entire area:
"Aside from the Dragon Blood Race and the Alien Race, leave no one else alive. Kill them all!"
