Chapter 435: Chapter 293: Set Sail
"These two are my younger brother’s children..." The Second Elder pointed to the oldest boy and the youngest girl, a pained look on his solemn face.
Clearly, the Second Elder’s retreat had not been as calm and effortless as he made it sound.
Once the Second Elder and his people were registered, they were officially considered part of the Gray Demon Whale’s crew and could freely use all its facilities.
Meanwhile, at Dean Wu’s summons, Beast Masters from all over Night Nether City began to return to Grey’s back.
"Attention, everyone! As planned, all logistics personnel are to return to the rest cabins. All other staff, proceed to your designated posts and await further orders!"
At that moment, the solemn voice of Leon, the chief voyage commander, echoed across all areas of Grey’s back.
Upon hearing the command, every Beast Master with an assigned task immediately moved like a busy worker ant, taking their Soul Beast to their post to await the commander’s instructions.
After handing the Second Elder over to Qing Fan to get settled, Han Ning hurried to the "bridge" on the Gray Demon Whale’s back—the area with the best field of view.
A dozen or so Beast Masters from the Human, Dragon Blood, and Hexagon races—including Sage, Hom, Zhou Mingkai, Leon, and Ah Yu—were gathered there. They all watched with solemn faces as Han Ning stepped through the doorway.
They were the core members responsible for creating the Spiritual Arrays, as well as the central command for piloting the Gray Demon Whale.
"The final Array isn’t complete yet. Is the situation really that critical?" Zhou Mingkai was the first to break the heavy silence.
"The Five Great Ancestors have entered the Grudge Abyss and could attack Night Nether City at any moment. If we weren’t in such a dire situation, I’d have let everyone finish their work."
With a look of resignation, Han Ning walked to the large screen composed of special Spiritual Energy Panels. Watching the data flash across the display, he asked, "Mr. Leon, how long will it take to activate the stealth function and bring the Gray Demon Whale to full power?"
"We need thirty minutes to warm up, from liftoff to full speed, with all Spiritual Arrays active," Leon said in a low voice, adjusting the Spiritual Mirror Surface on the bridge of his nose. "Also... Han Ning, have you decided on a route to break through the Insect Continent?"
"Let’s wait... In a minute or two, the Second Elder from the Cyan God Armor sector will be done settling matters and will head straight for the bridge. He has an in-depth understanding of the Five Great Ancestors. We must follow his advice on which route to take."
Han Ning gestured to the surrounding seats, signaling for everyone to sit down. He continued,
"I’ve used the All-Encompassing Spiritual Silkworm’s Puppets to set up outposts in every direction within the Grudge Abyss, and they’re monitoring the movements of the Five Great Ancestors. I estimate it will still be a little while before they discover we’re hiding in Night Nether City. That should be enough time for us to get Grey started and finalize our route."
The escape routes had, of course, been planned in advance.
But with the Five Great Ancestors now in the Grudge Abyss, choosing the right route to avoid an accidental encounter with one of them was crucial.
Learning from the Second Elder which of the Ancestors was weaker, or which one they could more easily counter, would undoubtedly maximize their chances of a safe escape.
Based on various intelligence reports on the Insect Continent’s surface gathered by the Dragon Blood Race over the past six months, the academy’s route-planning team had devised three possible escape routes.
As Han Ning spoke, Xu Jingjing, who was handling some of the system operations, brought up the three escape routes on a display screen below the main console.
Lacking an industrial environment, they were unable to manufacture large display screens. The LCD screen for the main console—about 100 inches—had been taken from one of the academy’s conference rooms.
Above the LCD screen was a special Spiritual Energy data panel. It displayed various parameters by showing the flow of Spiritual Particles, but unlike the LCD screen, it couldn’t render high-definition images and was limited to a single color.
In the middle of their conversation, there was another knock on the bridge door. A Beast Master on duty escorted in the Second Elder, who had just finished settling in his family.
"Let me make some brief introductions..."
Han Ning stood and introduced everyone to each other.
After a few brief pleasantries, they all moved on to the serious discussion at hand.
Leon pointed to the three routes on the high-definition LCD screen and began explaining them in detail to the Second Elder.
"According to the route left behind by the Alataku People, the Gray Demon Whale’s only escape path is to ascend from the surface of the Insect Continent to an altitude of 23,000 meters. When we travel to the airspace over a place called Xiliu Lake in the eastern part of the Insect Continent, we will reach the weakest point of a Gray Mist node. This is also the designated spot to use the Gray Dark Particle Penetrating Cannon to shatter the Gray Mist Barrier."
"The journey from Night Nether City will take us through the Grudge Abyss, then across the surface and into the skies of the Insect Continent. The total distance is about 13,000 kilometers, and we will likely pass through the territories of several Ancestor Families. With that in mind, we’ve devised three relatively safe routes. Second Elder, we would appreciate your help in determining which of these routes offers the highest level of safety."
Leon pointed to the uppermost route, which was marked on a schematic map of the Insect Continent and the Grudge Abyss.
"This route departs from the north of Night Nether City. After reaching the surface, it enters the Broken Stone Mountain Range, which is primarily defended by the Abyssal Rock Ant Clan. It’s a tri-modal trade route—air, land, and water—that provides a direct commercial link to the major Insect Master Families in the northern Insect Continent, bringing the Abyssal Rock Ant Clan vast quantities of resources each year."
"If we want to take the shortest path to Xiliu Lake, we have to pass through there."
