Chapter 440: Chapter 295: Barrier (Part 2)
"Launch decoy images to confuse the remaining Ancestral Insect Masters and avoid any potential pursuers."
"Full speed ahead. Target—Xiliu Lake!" After a brief tremor ran through the command room floor, Leon continued to issue orders.
"Accelerating to maximum. Current velocity—Mach 5."
Since Grey was carrying a massive amount of supplies, its flight speed wasn’t particularly fast. Its maximum was around Mach 7, or 8,500 kilometers per hour. Reaching Xiliu Lake would take a little over an hour.
HUMMM—
A fine, opalescent white light suddenly appeared over Grey’s body.
Three massive Gray Demon Whales, identical to its real body, detached themselves and flew at high speed toward the west, north, and south of the Insect Continent.
These images, formed purely from Spiritual Energy, had no offensive power. However, they emitted Lord Level Spiritual Energy fluctuations and possessed a basic Stealth Ability. In special circumstances, they could help the main body draw enemy fire, acting as decoys.
...
The escape was proceeding with unexpected smoothness.
Aside from the initial encirclement within the Grudge Abyss, they had met no further resistance after entering the Insect Continent’s Sky Domain.
A little over an hour passed in the blink of an eye.
A vast lake, shrouded in rising water vapor and pervasive Gray Mist, gradually came into view.
According to the map, Xiliu Lake marked the easternmost edge of the Insect Continent.
It was called a lake, but it looked visually boundless. The distant horizon was enveloped in an endless Gray Mist, making it feel as if they were in the middle of a vast ocean.
There were two ways to leave the Insect Continent.
One was to break through the obstruction of the Gray Mist, penetrating the barrier of fog that perpetually shrouded the Insect Continent, and leave this isolated corner of the world.
The second was to enter a Subspace rift and follow the spatial coordinates left behind by the Alataku People.
Normally, for an individual or a small group to leave the Insect Continent using the first method, they would need to consume a specific bloodline potion to bypass the Gray Mist’s blockade.
However... Grey, combined with numerous Monarch Level Soul Beasts, could unleash a composite destructive power that approached the Emperor Level. This allowed it to use a powerful Spiritual Energy attack to bombard a weak area in the Gray Mist and shatter the barrier.
This was the new method provided by the panel.
"The Gray Demon Whale has reached the designated area. Continue deeper into the Gray Mist, collect data, analyze the Spiritual Energy intensity in various locations, and find the weak point."
The Gray Mist on the outskirts of the Insect Continent was actually a massive Illusion Realm. Though it seemed boundless, it was just an effect on the mind; in reality, one would simply be flying in circles within a limited area.
A grid-like pattern of detection light radiated from Grey’s abdomen, disappearing into the dense fog.
As the light shot out and bounced back to Grey’s body, Spiritual Energy data for the entire area around Xiliu Lake appeared on the main screen of the central control room.
Current Temperature: 7°C
Humidity: 76%
Wind Force: 12
Northern Region Spiritual Particle Concentration—
Wind: 3%
Earth: 2%
Water: 5%
Fire: 1%
...
Southern Region Spiritual Particle Concentration—
...
Academician Zhou Mingkai sat before the main screen, his expression grave. One hand flew across the mouse while the other tapped ceaselessly on the keyboard, his face focused as if deep in thought.
Just as Academician Zhou was deep in thought, a slightly tense voice came from a nearby Communication Device. "Report to the command room! The three decoy images we released have all been destroyed. It seems the enemy has pinpointed our exact location. They are gathering their forces and heading toward Xiliu Lake at full speed."
Just a few seconds later, there was a knock on the command room door.
Ah Yu, dressed all in black, pushed the door open. She took a withered flower from her robes and said:
"All the Wraith Flowers our Hexagon Race scattered along the route have withered. This means there was a dense fluctuation of lifeblood in their vicinity. I suspect... the Queen’s Divine Hall has made its move."
The Wraith Flower was a peculiar Abyssal Flower with an astonishing craving for the lifeblood of living creatures. Whenever a creature drew near, the flower would emit a unique fragrance to lure it closer, then use its thick roots to drain the creature’s blood.
A withered Wraith Flower meant that it had been forcibly destroyed by another creature while in the process of draining lifeblood.
"Understood. Go back and continue monitoring. Inform us immediately if anything happens," Han Ning said with a nod.
"Yes, sir!" Ah Yu bowed slightly and quickly exited the command room.
"It’s been over an hour. No matter how slow the Queen’s Divine Hall is to react, they should have made a move by now," Han Ning murmured, careful not to disturb Academician Zhou.
"We can still buy more time. We have plenty of cards we haven’t played yet," Leon said in a calm tone, his gaze fixed on the distance.
"That won’t be necessary. I’ve found the weak point in the Gray Mist."
Academician Zhou, still in his chair, let out a long breath and wiped the sweat from his forehead. He pointed to an area circled on the screen and said,
"Who would have thought... the weak point is deep within Xiliu Lake. First, dive to the bottom of the lake. Operate the Dark Particle Piercing Cannon at full power—Grey will need to contribute its energy this time as well. Then, we fire at this spot. We’ll try to blast open the Gray Mist Barrier in one shot."
During the wait, Grey hadn’t stopped flying. It had been continuously circling above the designated area to maintain its high-speed flight state.
If it slowed down, accelerating back to full speed would consume a huge amount of Spiritual Energy. It was better to maintain full speed the entire time.
Without any hesitation, Leon immediately signaled Liu Mengting to direct Grey toward the designated area.
Han Ning could only watch as the dot representing his location on the map moved at high speed toward the target coordinates.
WHOOSH—
Above a stretch of water that was silent and devoid of life, the sound of a violent wind suddenly tore through the air.
Amidst the gale, a colossal shadow plunged into the water’s surface with the speed of a lightning strike, sending up a massive spray.
Upon entering the water, the Spiritual Energy Shield covering Grey’s body automatically materialized, forming a blackish-purple Light Shield that resisted the omnipresent water pressure.
The surroundings were pitch-black, teeming with numerous Aquatic Soul Beasts.
Grey’s arrival didn’t alert these creatures. Only the undercurrent, laced with astonishing power, swept toward them. It wasn’t until their bodies were torn apart by the Giant Power that they belatedly let out agonized cries.
"I didn’t expect so many Water Type Soul Beasts to live in Xiliu Lake. With such abundant Water Type Spiritual Energy, there must be a Monarch Level Soul Beast living here," Han Ning said, curiously observing the pitch-black area outside. Every now and then, massive, bizarrely-shaped Soul Beasts emitting a faint Spiritual Energy glow were sent flying by the force of Grey’s passage.
"The variety and strength of the Soul Beasts here are on par with those on the surface. If it weren’t smaller than the Grudge Abyss, Xiliu Lake could have become another of the Insect Continent’s Forbidden Lands," explained the Second Elder, who had returned to the command room and was gazing at the scenery outside.
Xiliu Lake was only small relative to the Grudge Abyss. For the high-speed Grey, it was still a considerable area.
The drag from the water significantly reduced Grey’s speed.
After diving to a depth of about 15,000 meters in Xiliu Lake, the light dot representing Grey finally overlapped with the area marked by Academician Zhou.
At this moment, there was no longer any water around Grey.
Unknowingly, they had entered a completely isolated, dry space. They were surrounded on all sides by a thick fog, making it impossible to tell east from west.
"Confirm coordinates. Adjusting attack angle."
"Attack angle adjusted. The Dark Particle Piercing Cannon is charging at full power."
This charge took much longer than the previous two times; even Grey, who had been focused on flying, contributed its power.
The Soul Beast Crystal Stones of various Attributes in the energy room were being consumed at a visibly rapid rate.
Over a dozen Monarch Level Soul Beasts, including the Dragon Blood and the Cyan God Armor, stirred the Spiritual Energy throughout their bodies and channeled it toward the energy input port.
A fluctuation powerful enough to collapse space itself formed at the tip of Grey’s long, spiraled horn.
"Charging complete! Dark Particle Piercing Cannon, full power—fire!"
BOOM!
A silent beam of light, suffused with a destructive aura, shot through the gray space and struck a seemingly unremarkable area.
Immediately after, a terrifying power swept out in all directions.
Wherever it passed, the Gray Mist was instantly dispersed.
Space itself seemed to be split in two, torn open down the middle.
At the edge of their vision, an ocean of deep, almost black, blue appeared.
Above the ocean was a sky full of brilliant stars.
