Chapter 165: Chapter 165: Burning with Rage
At the same time Karina went to find Andre, Rote was in another house, his chest heaving as a worried Jessica watched him.
"Brother, maybe we should just join them,"
Jessica said timidly, seeing how furious Rote was.
The moment she spoke, Rote slapped her hard on the shoulder.
"Join them? Join those two old bastards who’d devour you whole and not even spit out the bones?"
Rote’s eyes burned with fury. If he were strong enough, he would have turned on those two old men right then and there.
’To think they’d try to influence me by planting ideas in my sister Jessica’s head. What a despicable tactic.’
It was clearly a threat. If Andre hadn’t been on their side,
those two would probably already be ordering him and his sister around like dogs.
This despicable method was precisely what made Rote so furious.
"Brother, what should we do then?"
Jessica looked at Rote worriedly. "Piedra and Sander are just too strong. We can only stand against them if the four of us stick together."
During the two months that Rote and Andre were away, Jessica had felt this pressure firsthand.
"Andre was right. We have to use our resources to buy time!"
Rote suppressed his rage and looked at Jessica seriously.
"Use resources to buy time?"
"The world we’re in is completely undeveloped. It’s full of countless treasures."
"If we can get our hands on some of those treasures, our power will grow by leaps and bounds. It’s not impossible that we could even surpass those two old bastards."
The resentment in Rote’s eyes grew stronger.
"So right now, we can’t surrender to them. We have to stand firmly with Andre."
"Don’t forget, Andre is a Master Alchemist. If we want to absorb the power from the treasures we find, we’ll need him to refine them into Potions."
"This is something both we and those two old men understand."
"If we were to join Piedra’s side, they would definitely take a cut of any treasures we find."
"For us, the disadvantages would far outweigh the advantages."
"Besides, the four of us have already formed an alliance. If we split up now out of fear..."
"...then when the second and third Expeditionary Corps arrive, if Andre tells them what happened, we’ll be ostracized by the entire Corps."
"Don’t forget, you must not forget, the background Andre has."
Rote’s eyes were filled with unshakeable conviction.
"Brother, would Andre really tell on us?"
Jessica blinked, looking at her brother.
"He wouldn’t even have to tell anyone directly. He could just ’accidentally’ let a few things slip while he’s making Potions for people. Within a few days, the entire Expeditionary Corps would know."
"In that situation, would he even need to make a point of it?!"
Rote sighed deeply and looked at his sister.
Although they were brother and sister, there was an age gap of over twenty years between them.
In other words, as her older brother, he was practically fulfilling the role of a father. That’s why Rote found Jessica’s naive ideas truly exasperating.
At the same time, this whole affair also made him furious.
"I understand, Brother. Why don’t we leave the Expedition Base and go somewhere else?"
Jessica nodded and voiced her own idea.
"Go somewhere else... Yes, we will definitely go somewhere else. But we all agreed to establish the Expedition Base here."
"We have to stay here for a short time, but for how long... that’s up to us."
Rote nodded, then continued.
"Then let’s go talk to those two tomorrow,"
Jessica nodded, understanding what Rote meant.
"Andre is a Master Alchemist, isn’t he?"
"You have the coordinates for the Magic Plant Island. When the time comes, we’ll go there first, harvest every single Magic Plant on the island, and have Andre turn them into Potions."
"Once one of the four of us becomes a Level 2 Wizard, they can dream on if they think they can still bully us."
Rote nodded, looking at Jessica with a serious expression.
"I’ll do as you say." Jessica nodded and left the room.
’Piedra, Sander, you two have gone too far. You think you can just push us around because our family’s elders aren’t here?’
’It won’t be so easy to use us as cannon fodder for your own gain.’
Flames of fury burned in Rote’s eyes, but for now, they were outmatched. He had to bide his time to get revenge for the past two months.
The next day, Andre came out of his room, took out the head of the Fear Crocodile Rote had given him, and placed it on a table to begin skinning it and carving out the meat.
"Whoa, what a huge crocodile!"
Jessica, who had woken up earliest, watched Andre with a look of disgust.
It wasn’t Andre she was disgusted by, but the crocodile head he was butchering.
Once Andre removed the crocodile skin, the head was a bloody mess.
Jessica had never seen such a sight before.
Seeing it so suddenly, and first thing in the morning, Jessica was just glad she hadn’t eaten breakfast yet.
"Crocodile meat is delicious,"
Andre said with a smile, looking at the nauseated Jessica.
"I would never eat something like that!"
Jessica frowned, looking as if she wanted him to stay far away.
Andre just smiled and shook his head. He continued to carve up the crocodile meat, breaking off its teeth and scooping out its brain as he went.
Finally, all that was left before them was a massive, clean-picked skull.
Andre tapped the crocodile skull. "Better now?" he asked Jessica.
Jessica looked at the enormous crocodile skull and nodded.
Compared to the bloody, gory mess from before, a clean skull was something she could handle.
Andre set the skull aside and took up his knife again, scraping the remaining bits of flesh off the crocodile skin and tossing them to the side.
He planned to use this crocodile skin to make a defensive Witchcraft Artifact.
This was an idea that had come to him last night.
It was also a silent threat.
’If being a Master Alchemist isn’t enough to command respect, what if I add the title of Artifact Forger?’
’With two such titles, plus Grandmaster Klein backing me...’
’I’ll use this to send a message to Piedra and Sander: If you two ever want to return to the academy, then you’d better behave and just focus on your own damn mission.’
’Otherwise, I can’t guarantee what might happen in the future.’
