Wizard: I Have a Cultivation System
Chapter 592 - 35: Outer Plane CreatureChapter 592: Chapter 35: Outer Plane Creature
Murphy stood before the gate of light, his gaze calm as he watched the multicolored streams flowing within it.
He didn’t move.
Rodrick remained in his bowing posture, waiting for his lord to step inside.
But several seconds passed with no movement from behind him.
He cautiously raised his head, only to see Murphy looking at him.
"You go first."
Murphy’s voice was flat, betraying no emotion.
Rodrick froze for a moment.
’Go first?’
He immediately nodded respectfully. "Yes, My Lord."
With that, Rodrick straightened up, took a deep breath, and walked toward the gate of light.
The instant his body touched the gate, it seemed to be pulled, twisted, and stretched by an unseen force. Like a drop of ink falling into clear water, he rapidly diffused and dissipated, ultimately merging completely into the flowing, multicolored light.
Murphy watched quietly. Only after Rodrick’s figure had completely vanished did he step forward and follow.
...
The process of crossing over was difficult to describe accurately in words.
It wasn’t painful, nor was it dizzying. It was something deeper—a stripping away of existence itself.
If one had to find an accurate description, it was like being put under general anesthesia and losing consciousness completely—a blackout even more absolute than one from drinking.
Time lost its meaning.
Space lost its coordinates.
The sense of direction, of weight, of up and down—every sensation that anchored one’s existence—dissolved into nothingness.
Even the self known as "Rodrick" ceased to exist.
Then...
THUD!
Rodrick’s feet landed on solid ground.
He regained consciousness and took a deep breath. His five senses, and his sixth, retook control of his body. For a disorienting moment, he felt as if he had been born again.
However, this wasn’t Rodrick’s first time crossing between planes, so he quickly drew on past experience to overcome the strange sensation of being alive again.
First, he began to survey his surroundings.
This was a world dominated by shades of gray and white.
The sky was a heavy, low-hanging grayish-white, as if weighed down by countless layers of invisible leaden clouds.
The ground was grayish-white, paved with a material resembling flagstones but covered in a web of fine cracks filled with dust of the same color.
The buildings in the distance were also grayish-white.
They bore the common Imperial style—spires, archways, and narrow windows—but their surfaces were mottled and peeling. Thick, ash-like dust had accumulated in the corners, making them look as if they had been abandoned for countless centuries.
It wasn’t that there was no color.
Rather, the colors that did exist were incredibly faint, like a once-vibrant oil painting eroded by time, leaving behind only blurred outlines and pale patches of pigment.
Graffiti on a wall, which might have once been red, was now just a faint shadow nearly blending into the grayish-white background.
The glass in a window, perhaps once blue, was now merely a transparent pane with a faint bluish tint.
Even the clothes Rodrick wore, his dark gray formal suit, appeared muted in this grayscale world, as if time itself had stripped them of their color.
Rodrick pulled his gaze back and took a deep breath.
The air was filled with a faint, indescribable scent.
It wasn’t decay or mold, but something deeper—a scent that was like time itself slowly dissipating.
He was long used to it.
In this day and age, what Imperial Wizard hadn’t been to the Nightmare World?
This wasn’t like the time before the Dawn War, an era when the Nightmare World was considered taboo and no one dared to set foot in it.
Now, any Wizard with a bit of power and ambition would try to come here to test their luck.
Whether it was to search for lost ruins, hunt nightmare creatures, or gather rare materials.
Rodrick himself had been here more than a dozen times.
Though he had only ever dipped his toes in, never daring to venture too deep, he still knew his way around.
This series of observations grounded Rodrick’s consciousness, giving him a tangible sense of being in the world. He moved his arms and legs, savoring the solid feeling of his body being fully under his mind’s control. Just as he was about to step forward to recover further...
Rodrick’s brow suddenly furrowed.
’Something’s not right.’
He stood frozen in place, not moving, but his gaze began to dart around.
’It’s not the environment that’s wrong.’
The environment was perfectly normal, no different from his previous visits.
’What’s wrong... is "My Lord."’
’No, to be precise, it’s Murphy.’
The moment that thought surfaced, Rodrick subconsciously tried to suppress it.
’How could I possibly doubt My Lord?’
’He’s a Third-Level Wizard, a being capable of complete Elementalization, the kind of big shot who sits in the Senate.’
’Doubting him? Isn’t that just courting death?’
But once the thought took root, it grew like a weed, no longer able to be completely suppressed by the "Intimidating Heart Dao Pattern."
’Is it because I’ve entered the Nightmare World?’
Rodrick didn’t know.
But he knew that he was now starting to think about things he had never considered before.
For a Third-Level Wizard, "My Lord’s" general knowledge was far too poor.
He didn’t recognize the teleportation Array.
He didn’t know the function of Elemental Crystals.
He didn’t even know that entering the Nightmare World required a sacrifice to gain an "entry ticket."
These were things that even a newly promoted First-Level Wizard should know, as long as they had done a little homework.
’A Third-Level Wizard wouldn’t know this?’
What was more fatal was that Rodrick suddenly realized he had never found any of this strange before.
That night, Murphy had appeared out of thin air in his bedroom. He had attacked immediately, then discovered the other man was a Third-Level Wizard, and then began to obey him unconditionally.
’Is that normal?’
Even if the other party was a Third-Level Wizard, as an officially registered First-Level Wizard of the Empire, he should have at least maintained a basic level of vigilance.
