Dominic threw the spear forward while clasping his hands together in front of his chest. As the spear flew, it split into two, then four, then eight, and by the time it reached Duke, it had become dozens of identical spears, each trailing dark purple energy.
Duke’s response was a giant four-color hand. As the shadow spears flew, metallic yellow sand rapidly converged, forming an enormous dark golden palm as tall as Duke himself, with its five fingers open, four-color divine light flowing and surging across its surface.
The giant hand pushed forward, and the instant the spears struck its surface, they were crushed into powder. The dark purple runes on the spear tips were snuffed out by the four-color divine light at the rule level before they could explode.
The giant hand did not pause and continued to advance, its five fingers gradually closing in during the advance, grasping the shadow fragments that were still flying in mid-air, and then suddenly slapping in Dominic’s direction.
The multiple layers of shadow shields Dominic had deployed around him were rendered ineffective before the four-color divine light.
The first layer was shattered instantly upon contact with the giant hand, the second layer only lasted a moment before being crushed, and the third layer barely held for a while under his frantic infusion of magic power, with shadow energy boiling like tar on the shield’s surface attempting to repair itself with the fastest speed, but the light rules within the four-color divine light sliced through the shield from the contact point outward layer by layer like a red-hot knife through butter.
The residual force of the hand penetrating the three shields slammed into Dominic’s chest-crossed arms. He flew backward like a stone shot from a slingshot, his back slamming heavily against the rock wall, creating a large indentation with rubble and dust falling from above.
Dominic slid down the rock wall, stumbling as his feet barely touched the ground.
He raised his head, a trace of dark red blood trickling from the corner of his mouth, his gray-green pupils reflecting the four-color giant hand rising again.
He gritted his teeth, right hand fingers suddenly piercing into his left arm, extracting a continuously twisting shadow chain from the flesh, while his left hand pressed on the shadow stone crystal at the core of the magic array, forcibly infusing the last batch of materials into it.
The chain rapidly extended from his hand, shooting toward Duke.
He intended to trap him, even if only for a short while, even if just enough to prevent him from moving when the magic array activates.
The shadow chain wrapped around the wrist of the four-color giant hand, only to be crushed into countless fragments with a gentle grip from the hand’s five fingers.
As the chain fragments flew through the air, they lost all shadow luster, turning into ordinary iron shards falling to the ground.
Duke no longer looked at those fragments and thrust his right hand forward.
The giant hand’s fingers fully spread open, the four-color divine light in its palm weaving into a continuously rotating light ball, pressing straight toward Dominic’s chest.
Dominic, using his last ounce of strength, infused all his magic power into his final shield.
This shield was no longer a mere shadow barrier but forged directly from his blood and shadow rules, the edges of the shield burning with ghostly green flames, each flame representing his burning life force.
The moment the giant hand’s palm pressed against the shield, the entire cavern shook violently, the outer rings of the magic array unable to bear the impact, causing the rune patterns to simultaneously shatter, dark purple energy bursting from the cracks, creating a dazzling light curtain within the cavern.
Under the four-color divine light’s crush, the shield caved inward, deformed, and fractured, Dominic’s facial muscles contorting under the shockwave, he stared fixedly at the hand above him, and then heard a crisp snapping sound.
It wasn’t the shield that shattered; it was a stalactite behind him snapped by the shockwave.
After breaking through the shield, the giant hand slammed against his chest. Dominic’s body shot backward like a cannonball, colliding with several stalagmites and stalactites along the way, finally crashing heavily into the rock wall at the cavern’s deepest point, and sliding down amid the rubble.
He lay on his back among the debris, his chest deeply dented, blood continuously flowing from his mouth and nostrils, staining his gray-white beard dark red.
The shadow stone crystal at the core of the magic array still flowed with liquid luster, though its glow was becoming unstable.
Nearly half of the runes required for the summoning ritual were destroyed in the battle; the core crystal’s energy alone was insufficient to tear the plane rift.
He stared at the still-turning crystal, his lips struggling to move a few times.
The ritual was incomplete, the runes necessary for the master’s descent were more than half destroyed, and he no longer had a shred of magic power to repair them.
Using his last strength, he reached out for the crystal, his fingers grasping at thin air, capturing nothing.
Then he despairingly closed his eyes.
Duke withdrew the four-color giant hand, the metallic yellow sand retreating into his sleeve like a receding tide.
He stood his ground, his gaze sweeping over the fractured rune patterns on the cavern floor.
The outermost two rings had completely crumbled, the middle two rings’ runes heavily fractured by the shockwave, dark purple energy fluid seeped from the cracks, pooling into bubbling viscous puddles on the uneven obsidian ground.
The energy circuits of the entire magic array were severely disrupted, the shadow stone crystal at its core still flowing with liquid luster, yet its glow’s pulsation had become erratic, each flicker accompanied by fine energy leaks.
