Wizard: Starting from the Skill Tree

Chapter 1004 - 844: Descent (Part 2)

According to his understanding of the descent ritual, this level of destruction is already enough to cause the ritual to fail utterly.

But to be safe, the Duke prepared to completely destroy this place.

At that moment, a very faint sound of friction came from behind him.

It was the muffled sound of flesh being pierced by some sharp object, thick and moist, yet remarkably clear in the deathly silence of the cave.

Then came a second sound, a third, a series of dense puncturing sounds like torrential rain falling on muddy ground, accompanied by the crisp sound of bones breaking and the gurgling sound of some liquid spurting out.

Dominic lay on his back amid the rubble, his previously concave chest now thoroughly pierced by five pitch-black bone spikes that had burst from his body.

The bone spikes had grown backwards from the base of his ribs, puncturing the skin, muscles, and the purple robe embroidered with the Eye of Shadow, the tips curving upwards, like five massive black claws pinning him to the ground.

His arms were outstretched, and each palm had a deep wound where bones could be seen, and what poured from the wounds was not blood, but liquid shadow burning with ghostly green flames, as he directly channeled his life force into the foundation of the magic array.

"My lord..." Dominic uttered a muddled whisper from his throat, his vocal cords partly torn by the bone spikes spreading from his neck, the sound dry and broken, "...descend!"

As the last syllable fell, his body exploded from the inside.

It was not an explosion of blood and flesh, but a complete disintegration starting at the cellular level, turning skin, muscle, bone, and internal organs into shadow at a speed visible to the naked eye, transforming into the purest shadow energy, then frenziedly spreading along the fractured rune lines on the ground.

Where the shadow energy passed, the broken runes were rejoined, the collapsed rings were relit, and the entire magic array was reenergized as if injected with a stimulant, the six concentric circles all lighting up again within a brief moment.

The core of the magic array, a crystal of Shadow Stone, suddenly trembled, liquid gloss rotating madly within the crystal, the entire cave floor shaking violently, stalactites overhead snapping off and crashing to the ground, shattering into powder.

Deep within the cave, space itself began to tear, a very thin rift slowly opening right above the Shadow Stone crystal, the edges of the rift curling inward and charring like scorched parchment, revealing the boundless darkness within the rift, which was not simply an absence of light, but a living darkness that actively consumed all illumination.

As the rift expanded, it emitted a low hum of a frequency known to no entity, the hum directly affecting the level of spiritual power.

The core crystal of the magic array was no longer a half-person tall boulder; it had been fully activated during the ritual, the flowing liquid gloss on its surface becoming fierce and violent, each flash releasing visible dark purple shockwaves outward, hitting the rock wall and cracking the Obsidian with dense fissures.

Inside the crystal, a vague outline was slowly forming, resembling a curled human form, the surface covered with flowing shadow, beneath which faint distorted limb structures were visible.

The human form slowly began to unfold, every inch it unfolded doubling the concentration of shadow energy around it, fine black frost crystals starting to appear in the air, indication that shadow energy was becoming dense enough to begin eroding the material world.

The Duke watched the outline forming within the rift, raised his right hand slightly, and the giant hand of four colors gathered again, slamming toward the core crystal of the magic array.

The four-color divine light in the palm of the giant hand collided fiercely with the shadow shield surrounding the crystal, and the shadow shield shattered after a brief stalemate. The Shadow Stone crystal emitted a sound like shattering glass, fine cracks appeared on its surface.

But the rift did not close, the outline forming within the rift only shook slightly, then continued to slowly and resolutely unfold outward.

The descent ritual had already been completed, Dominic used his life and soul to complete the final rune, forcibly tearing open the planar rift.

Though the giant hand of four colors could destroy the core crystal of the array, it could not reverse the now completed descent.

Once the rift is torn open, the arrival of a projection avatar is already unstoppable.

From deep in the rift, the outline finally fully opened its eyes.

They were eyes without pupils, within the eye sockets burned pure dark purple flames.

The body of the projection avatar condensed into humanoid form at the edge of the rift, but its proportions were off, limbs overly long, fingers with an extra joint, skin like solidified asphalt, the surface continuously flowing with liquid shadow patterns.

It stepped one foot out of the rift, onto the cave floor, and the Obsidian at the moment of contact with its sole was eroded into a circle of charred mark, the edges of the mark slowly spreading outward.

Its aura was at the tier three high stage level, not reaching Dominic’s original expectation of demigod level, but greatly surpassing the threat level of ordinary tier three high stage.

Dominic’s sacrifice ultimately couldn’t entirely compensate for the energy loss caused by the array’s damage, the projection that descended didn’t reach the theoretical tier three peak.

The Duke withdrew the giant hand of four colors, turning to face the projection fully emerging from the rift, the four-color divine light slowly flowing around him, repelling the increasingly dense black frost crystals several steps away.

The projection of the Evil God then fully stepped from the rift, its bare feet on the Obsidian floor, each step branding a continually expanding charred footprint on the rock surface.

Its skin like solidified asphalt, the surface continuously flowing with dark purple patterns, the patterns emitting a very faint hissing sound like some cold-blooded animal’s breath as they traveled its body.

Its face lacked lips, the mouth merely a crack running across the face, the edges of the crack curling inward, exposing a pure black cavity devoid of teeth or tongue.

And its eyes without pupils, burning dark purple flames within the eye sockets, staring straight at the Duke.

Its gaze lingered on the four-color divine light around the Duke, then extended outward along the still lingering rule fluctuations in the air as if sniffing something.

The burning pupils narrowed slightly, then a low laughter emerged from deep within its throat.

The laughter was like two rough stones grinding against each other underwater, muffled and piercing.

"I am the Lord of the Dark Abyss, Salonos." Its voice resonated through the cave, each syllable wrapped in a layer of thick shadow, falling on the eardrum with a heavy oppressive feeling "You carry a scent familiar to me, those detestable wizards."

It tilted its head, its neck bending to one side at an angle incompatible with any living creature’s bone structure, as if scrutinizing an interesting artifact.

"I spent so long finding pure enough shadow soil on this secluded low plane, cultivating followers, spreading beliefs. The foundation painstakingly built, yet still targeted by you wizards."

The Duke made no response, nor dismissal.

The four-color divine light continued to flow slowly around him, repelling the increasingly dense black frost crystals several steps away.

Salonos’s laughter abruptly ceased, the cracked mouth slowly closing, the dark purple flames in its eye sockets suddenly flickered.

It took a step forward, its massive body leaning slightly, the charred footprints beneath it silently expanding.

"I know the ways of you wizards, any plane you set eyes on is either conquered, colonized, or dismantled into raw materials and taken away." Its voice lowered, a suppressed resentment long contained detectable within the deep tones, "I cannot contend with the entire Wizard Plane, but today there is only you here."

It raised a finger pointing at the Duke, a droplet of liquid shadow continuously swelling at the tip of the conical spike, that droplet burning a fist-sized charred pit into the ground upon contact: "To kill you, at least to make the Wizard Plane pay a bit of cost."
