Andre’s wings contracted, his figure retreated violently, narrowly avoiding each blow.
Yet when those light shadows grazed his scale armor, they still left deep scratches, blood seeped from the wounds, quickly evaporated by the berserk aura.
For the first time, Andre began to retreat.
It wasn’t a defeat but a tactical retreat.
He was waiting, waiting for the berserk time to pass.
The power traded from the combustion of his essence wouldn’t last long, as long as he held on until the leader’s strength was exhausted, it would be his time to counterattack.
The leader seemed to understand this too.
Its assault grew fiercer, each swing of the trident brought up a dark red blade of light, slicing all the surrounding rocks, ponds, and stone houses to pieces.
The two Mechanical Wizards attempted to provide support from the side but were constantly forced back by the berserk aura, unable to approach at all.
Duke lurked underground, watching this scene, his mind racing.
Andre was temporarily suppressed, the Mechanical Wizards were also held up, who knows how long the leader’s berserk state could last.
He knew that the moment the berserk state ended, it would be Andre’s time to counterattack.
He couldn’t wait any longer.
Duke withdrew his perception, the sand flow silently sinking deeper underground.
He planned to bypass the battlefield from underground and directly infiltrate the location of the resource point.
A resource point of this scale couldn’t be only on the surface.
The Lizardmen’s nests often built near water sources, connected to underground water veins, the treasure should be hidden deep underground.
The sand flow traveled through the rock layers, advancing towards the center pond of the valley.
The deeper he went, the harder the rock became, and the sand flow slowed down.
But he wasn’t in a hurry, patiently searching for gaps in the rock layers, slowly seeped downwards.
Then his sand flow hit an invisible wall.
Not rock and water, but something more tenacious and dense.
Duke sent his Spiritual Power to probe, sensing a thin, shimmering blue energy membrane, like water ripples flowing on the rock layer’s surface.
That membrane covered the entire area below the pond, sealing deep underground tightly.
Duke tried several times but couldn’t penetrate the membrane.
His sand flow touched it and was gently bounced away, like a finger pressing on the water surface, unable to press through.
He stopped, no longer forcing his way in, there must be an entrance.
This kind of protection couldn’t seal off all passageways, there must be a route for entry and exit.
The sand flow roamed along the edge of the energy membrane, like a snake searching for a crevice beneath a wall.
Around the pond were numerous caves and fissures, some naturally formed, some dug out by generations of Lizardmen.
Most passages were sealed by the energy membrane, only one passage remained open.
On the east side of the pond, there was a stone stairway leading downward.
The stairway was narrow, allowing only one person to pass, crude runes were carved on the stone walls on both sides.
Those runes were different from the protective Witch Array in the test field, set up by the Lizardmen themselves, crude but effective, mainly to prevent water from flooding back and to drive away small creatures.
The energy membrane left a gap here, blocked by a stone door.
Duke’s sand flow seeped through the crack in the stone stairway, condensing into a human form in the shadow behind the door.
The passage beyond the door extended downward, growing deeper, the air damp and stuffy, pervaded by a strong fishy smell.
Glowing moss was embedded in the stone walls on both sides of the passage, barely illuminating the path ahead.
Duke lightened his steps, his Spiritual Power probing forward.
At the end of the passage lay a massive stone door.
The stone door carved from a whole piece of greenstone, its surface engraved with a Lizardmen totem, a coiled water python, its snake body encircling the entire door, the snake’s head facing the door seam, its open mouth was where the door handle was.
On both sides of the stone door stood a Lizardmen each.
Both Lizardmen were Level 2.
Their figures were more robust than those of their kind on the surface, scales a deep black, like soaked in ink.
Mettalic claws adorned their hands, glinting coldly in the moss’s dim light.
They hadn’t joined the surface battle, always guarding the door, not leaving an inch.
Duke stood in the shadow of the passage, looking at the two Lizardmen, silent for a few breaths.
Then he raised his hand.
Suddenly, the stone walls on both sides of the passage exploded, countless dark golden sand flow surged from the cracks, like two roaring sand pythons, attacking the two Lizardmen.
They reacted swiftly, one dodging sideways, the other raising its claws to block.
The dodging one was grazed on the shoulder by the sand flow, its scales shattered, black blood splattering.
The blocking one was gripped by the sand flow around its claws, the sand vortically spinning, shredding the metal claws into pieces, along with half of its arm.
Yet they were, after all, Level 2 Life.
The injured Lizardmen let out a furious roar, its whole body bursting with deep blue water light, dispersing the sand flow wrapped around itself.
The other Lizardmen took the opportunity to lunge at Duke, its claws bringing the sound of wind splitting, directly aimed at his throat.
Duke side-stepped, sand flow condensed into a shield in front of him, blocking the claw.
The claw embedded in the sand shield, gripped by the myriad sand grains, unable to withdraw.
Duke lifted his other hand, five fingers bent slightly.
The ground under the injured Lizardman’s feet suddenly collapsed, transforming into a quicksand pit.
It struggled to climb out, yet more sand flow surged from all directions, enveloping it completely.
Sand grains penetrated its scale gaps, burrowing into its eyes, nostrils, ears, infiltrating through wounds into flesh.
It let out a piercing shriek, then the sound abruptly cut off.
Sand flow tightened, twisting it into a mass of indistinct flesh, mixed with shattered scales and bones, oozing black liquid through sand flow gaps.
