The black river and the fiery red river gradually touch and merge, countless lives are lost every second.

...

For five days, the meat grinder on Black Stone Plain never stopped.

Both sides gave their all, yet still had strength to spare.

The defense line of the Molten Spirits has been compressed to the central area of Black Stone Plain, but their counterattacks remain fierce, with each assault claiming thousands of Slave Creatures’ lives.

The advance speed of the 235th Legion and other legions is getting slower, with troops loss, resource consumption, and morale erosion all slowing down the offensive pace.

Duke and his group have stayed at the rear these days, with the Twenty-Third Battle Group not participating in any battle, the entire group is standing by waiting for Ares’ orders.

News of the battle comes through the magic array communication, the staff officers summarize, analyze, and mark the reports on the map.

Rex goes to the command center for meetings every day, returning with a consistently stern face, devoid of emotion.

On the evening of the fifth day, the order finally came.

Rex stands in front of the formation of the Twenty-Third Battle Group, hands behind his back, his deep blue military uniform gleams coldly under the dark red sky.

His eyes sweep over the hundreds of Wizards under his command, and he says, "The entire group mobilizes, follow the path in the mountains eastward, then turn north. Everyone must keep up, no falling behind, no leaving the team without permission."

Rex doesn’t specify the mission, nor does anyone ask.

This task is clearly very covert, as they carry very few Slave Creatures, only a mere tens of thousands.

Such action is obviously to act in a low-key manner, avoiding drawing attention.

Everyone’s attention is on the battlefield of Black Stone Plain, no one will notice this tiny troop deployment here.

The team begins to move, Duke walks in the middle of the team, his gaze scanning the surrounding mountain terrain.

This path is extremely remote, in some places it doesn’t even qualify as a road, just natural fissures formed by mountain fractures.

On both sides are steep cliff walls, with gullies carved by rainwater and patches of yellowish moss growing within.

The sky overhead is blocked by the mountain, leaving only a line of dark red light exposed.

As the team progresses in the narrow crevice, the sound of footsteps echoes between the mountain walls, sounding like countless people are following behind.

A few days later, the battle group arrives at the outskirts of a mountain range, a dozen kilometers outside the mountain range is a small Molten Fire Fortress, built on a fire attribute elemental crystal vein.

This vein is not a vein in the ordinary sense, but rather ore within the magma, hence below it is also a volcano-like magma.

"Our task this time isn’t targeting the main battlefield of Black Stone Plain, but rather the supply veins here." Rex points at the fortress’ position on the map, "According to intelligence, the Molten Spirits have deployed a special means in Black Stone Plain, requiring underground energy from several veins to activate."

"We don’t know what that method is, but the higher-ups take it seriously. Each of these veins must be cut off."

This is why they’ve been waiting; the Six-Ring Tower knows the Molten Spirits of Black Stone Plain have an ace, hence they dare not attack full force, continuing to probe and consume.

"We’re responsible for the southeast vein," Rex’s finger points to the fortress.

"Not just one unit is executing this task, other directions have similar troops, each responsible for one vein. Once several key veins are cut, the Molten Spirits’ so-called ace will just become a pile of scrap metal. Black Stone Plain can be destroyed, but once destroyed it’s gone. Those resources are the Wizard Council’s spoils."

The Molten Spirits of Black Stone Plain evidently have a desperate means, hence the Wizards are apprehensive.

They aren’t afraid of being dragged down, but rather afraid that such a vast and resource-rich area as Black Stone Plain would be destroyed; the loss would be too great.

Though they’ve yet to capture Black Stone Plain, in the Wizards’ eyes it’s already their territory.

In the following days, Duke and others begin covertly approaching the fortress, scouting terrain and enemy conditions.

The fortress is built at the end of the mountain ridge, surrounded by steep cliffs on three sides, with only one road accessible at the front.

The obsidian walls are twenty meters high, densely engraved with runes, runes slowly flow, drawing heat energy from underground to maintain the wall’s temperature.

The patrol on the wall changes shifts every quarter of an hour, the guarding is strict.

Within the fortress is a huge mining platform, beneath the platform is a surging magma lake.

Fire attribute elemental crystal veins aren’t buried in soil, they condense into crystals deep within the magma, requiring extraction from the magma.

On the mining platform are dozens of massive winches, their iron chains plunge into the magma, with heat-resistant metal baskets hanging on the end.

As the basket rises from the magma, it’s filled with dark red ores, their surface flows with magma, revealing crimson crystals inside after cooling.

The fortress’ defense force is mainly Flame Warriors, numbering around three thousand, along with over a hundred Magma Giants and several hundred Magma Hounds.

Their commander is a Level 3 Lord of Flame, twice the size of ordinary Flame Warriors, gold-colored scales flow with magma, and the black horn atop its head emits a chilling glow.

On a morning several days later, Rex stands at the front of the troop, issuing the attack order.

Slave Creature Legion emerge from both sides of the mountain ridge, pressing towards the Furnace Castle.

The fortress’ patrol notices them, alarm bells sound from the wall, dull and urgent, echoing through the valley.

The runes on the wall accelerate their flow, the wall fills with Flame Warriors, Magma Hounds rush out from both sides of the gate, and Magma Giants form ranks before the wall.

The Level 3 Lord of Flame stands atop the wall, its black spear pointed skyward, a roar escapes its mouth, causing loose stones to fall from the mountain wall.

Duke directly enters elemental form, joining the battlefield, stirring up a vast golden sandstorm.

As the sandstorm passes, lives are harvested in swathes.

The Slave Creatures deployed this time are few, hence Duke and the others need to personally engage.

On the other side, Vera’s thorns erupt from spatial fissures, akin to countless dark green serpents traversing, wrapping, and strangling on the battlefield.

Leon’s Holy Silver Battle Body fully unfolds on the mountain path, a silver-white phantom wielding a sword strikes at the Magma Giants’ formation, shattering dozens of Molten Spirits with one strike.

Morris’s area turns into a death zone even Slave Creatures fear approaching, Morris is shrouded in black mist, wherever the mist spreads, life wilts.

Rex naturally engages as well, the Lord of Flame casts its gaze downward at him, its golden eyes filled with fury, its black spear directed at him, a dark red beam shoots from its tip.

Rex side-steps to dodge, the beam grazes his shoulder, strikes the wall behind him, exploding into a massive crater.

Fragments and dust roll down from the cliff, landing with a dull sound.

The Lord of Flame leaps down from the wall, its feet hitting the ground leaving charred pits, both met for a duel away from the battlefield center, in mutual understanding.

The Lord of Flame is confident, it can sense this human’s power isn’t as strong as its own.

Sure enough, after entangling, Rex is continually at a disadvantage, yet he never lets the Lord of Flame slip from his control.

Just when the Lord of Flame focuses all its attention on Rex, preparing a lethal strike, a figure silently sweeps from the rear of the troop.

Gray-white robes, aged face, unfathomable aura.

He hovers behind the Lord of Flame, exuding a terrifying aura.

The Lord of Flame’s body freezes, a fine crack appears on its neck, spreading outward, scales shatter.

Dark red blood seeps from the crack, its golden eyes filled with fear and confusion.
