Rule Enlightenment, Rule Mastery, Rule Transformation, Rule Spark, these are the paths one must take from being a Level 3 Mage to a Demigod-level Mage.
Once possessing a Rule Spark one can be called a Demigod-level Mage, and only by transforming the Rule Spark to ignite the divine fire can one truly condense a Divine Status.
Generally, Level 3 Mages specialize in one or two types of Rules, following the path they excel at, hoping to make breakthrough progress on one of these Rule paths, thus going further by igniting the divine fire.
People like Jin Mo who condense a Divine Status using four rules are extremely rare even on the Wizard Plane.
Matteo was not a match for Level 4 Life, facing some regular Level 4 Life with relatively primitive cultivation he could still maneuver for a bit.
But facing a freakish presence like Jin Mo, one could say he didn’t even have the qualification to maneuver.
All Matteo could do was delay his death as much as possible, and see if he could survive until reinforcements arrived.
He naturally had already sent a distress signal, but even for a Level 4 Mage like Ares to come over would take a little time, it’s impossible for them to instantly teleport here.
Unless it’s a special Level 4 Life that has mastered Spatial Rules.
Rules do have different ranks, Spatial Rules are one type of Advanced Rules, not included in the regular discussion of rules.
Matteo did not sit idly by.
Before Jin Mo’s second wave of attacks could complete gathering, his right hand was already patting an ice-blue pendant at his waist.
This is a Demigod-level Witchcraft Artifact, named "Frost Whisperer’s Last Breath," forged with the reverse scale of an ice dragon long extinct on the Wizard Plane, it’s his life-saving artifact at the bottom of the chest.
The moment the pendant exploded, a ghostly blue ice ring rapidly spread outwards from Matteo’s center.
Where the ice ring passed, the boiling magma instantly solidified.
This magma was forcibly frozen at a certain moment, and within less than a heartbeat’s time, the dark red lava turned into gray-black basalt, with a layer of frost several meters thick covering its surface.
This pendant is a one-time Witchcraft Artifact, a one-time Demigod-level Artifact, extremely precious and expensive.
But Matteo didn’t feel distressed, because once he becomes a dead person, there’s no need to feel distressed about anything.
Jin Mo’s fire spear crashed into the ice ring, releasing an ear-piercing shriek.
The Rule Power of ice and fire ripped into each other violently within the confined space, the resulting energy impact once again shattered the newly solidified basalt.
The ice ring lasted less than a tenth of a second before beginning to fracture, but that time was enough for Matteo to activate the next Witchcraft Artifact.
His left hand spread its five fingers, and a palm-sized bronze round shield emerged in his palm.
The shield’s surface was engraved with dense runes, ancient enough that even Matteo couldn’t fully recognize them.
This is a Demigod-level defense Witchcraft Artifact he dug out from a Level 4 relic, named "Bronze Bulwark," capable of deploying a defense barrier entirely woven from Rule Fragments.
A bronze glow spread from his palm, condensing into a translucent giant shield before him, with dozens of different Rule Fragment patterns flowing on the shield surface, each fragment was a Rule imprint left by a former owner of this shield.
After the fire spear shattered the ice ring, its remaining force struck the Bronze Bulwark.
This time there was no shriek, just a profoundly dull impact sound, like a giant hammer striking a copper bell.
Under the fire spear’s impact, the Rule Fragments on the Bronze Bulwark began to shatter one by one, but each time a fragment shattered, another would emerge from deep within the shield to fill its place.
Matteo’s entire left arm shook, the Bronze Bulwark was directly linked to his Spiritual Power, each shattering of a Rule Fragment fed back into his Spiritual Power, and the pain felt like someone was grinding his skull layer by layer with a file.
But there was no choice, he just had to grit his teeth and endure.
All Matteo could do was layer defense upon defense, trading his Witchcraft Artifact reserves for time.
How much longer he can trade depends on how thick his life-saving reserves are, and as an over six-hundred-year-old Demigod-level Mage, his foundation is fairly solid.
When he activated the third Demigod-level Witchcraft Artifact, the Bronze Bulwark had just shattered its last Rule Fragment.
It was a pitch-black metal feather, named "Void Raven’s Feather," capable of briefly pulling the caster into a spatial interlayer to evade attacks.
Matteo’s silhouette flickered for a moment, dozens of fire spears pierced through where he previously stood, tearing the afterimage he left behind to shreds.
His true form had already shifted several kilometers through the spatial interlayer, reappearing on the other side of the magma lake.
Jin Mo’s heterochromic eyes flashed with a trace of surprise.
Spatial artifacts, the variety of these intruders indeed is many.
But spatial artifacts of this level don’t last long, nor can they be used indefinitely.
Matteo indeed couldn’t stay in the spatial interlayer forever, after emerging, he first grasped with his right hand, a long spear constructed entirely of ice reformed.
This spear strike naturally couldn’t inflict any substantial damage on Jin Mo, it was merely to delay the opponent slightly.
Because he had already sensed, approximately seventy kilometers due north, a formidable aura was rapidly approaching at a terrifying speed.
If Matteo’s own Ice Rule Spark was a trickling stream, then that aura was a rushing river.
The aura of War and Steel Rules, he was too familiar with it.
