Wizard: Starting from the Skill Tree

Chapter 934 - 809: Foundations, Part 2

He has worked under Ares for so long that he can recognize his superior’s aura with his eyes closed.

Ares has arrived.

Upon detecting Ares’ signal, Mateo immediately sent a message in that direction without hesitation: "Level 4 Middle Tier, four attribute fusion divine status, Legion Commander please be extremely cautious."

Just as his spiritual power had sent the message, Jin Mo’s attack arrived.

Jin Mo seemed to have sensed an approaching aura and no longer wanted to waste time with Mateo.

He lifted his right hand slightly, and the power of four elemental rules surged from his body, weaving into a swirling vortex of continually changing four colors in front of his palm.

The vortex wasn’t large, only about the size of an adult’s head, but as soon as it appeared, magma within a kilometer radius began to rush crazily toward it.

This wasn’t being drawn in, but rather was pushed away by the oppressive feeling generated by the rule-level vortex.

This magma lake was no longer a battlefield; it had become a bowl being slowly drained with two people standing at the bottom.

Mateo stared at the four-color vortex, his pupils narrowed.

It was a direct release of Level 4 Divine Status power, a tier higher than the previous fire spear.

His spiritual power was frantically warning him, and the ice rules spark instinctively contracted; this was not something he could block.

But he still had a witchcraft artifact, a Level 4 Witchcraft Artifact.

This artifact was named the Heart of Frost, originating from the remains of a Level 4 Mage.

The artifact’s owner was a Level 4 Initial Tier Mage specializing in ice rules, mortally wounded by a lifeform from another plane during a plane expedition, who sealed the power of his lifetime rules in his heart as he was dying, forming an ice rules core that could be activated once.

Mateo had countless times considered using it to aid himself in igniting divine fire and breaking through to Level 4, but each time he had postponed it for various reasons.

Because it was also a one-time item; once failed, it was wasted, needing proper usage.

But now, he wasn’t aiming for Level 4, but to use it to save his life.

When the Heart of Frost appeared in his palm, the temperature of the entire magma lake rapidly plunged in a moment.

It was a fist-sized rhombus crystal, with no runes on its surface but internally locked with a Level 4 Mage’s lifetime rule enlightenment.

All the rule fragments circulated inside the crystal at an extremely slow pace, like auroras sealed within amber.

Mateo squeezed hard, and the crystal shattered.

Level 4 ice rules power erupted from his palm, and within a kilometer radius, the magma instantly froze into a silver-white ice field.

In the center of this ice field stood numerous ice pillars, each sealing the rule enlightenment fragments of a Level 4 Mage at his end, jointly forming a temporary fort of ice rules.

The four-color vortex collided with the Frost Fortress, and the clash of rules made no sound.

Or rather, the sound was directly devoured at a rule level.

Mateo stood at the center of the fortress, pressing his hands firmly on the ice surface, pouring all his magic power and spiritual power into the defense system of the Heart of Frost.

He could feel the four-color vortex peeling off layers of the rule shell encasing the Frost Fortress, and with every layer stripped, the remaining power of the Heart of Frost weakened a bit.

But the Heart of Frost was, after all, the essence of a Level 4 Mage’s lifetime, even Jin Mo couldn’t penetrate it instantaneously despite being Level 4 Middle Tier.

This gave Ares ample time.

When the outer shell of the Frost Fortress was peeled to the penultimate layer by the four-color vortex, a silver light shot out from the northern rock wall.

This wasn’t a teleport magic or space leap, but a pure, unadorned physical charge.

Ares’ figure rushed into the frozen ice field of the magma lake like a silver meteor, landing a foot on the ice surface in front of Mateo, blocking between the four-color vortex and the Frost Fortress.

In the Wizard Plane, the rules of war and steel were also exceptionally rare compound rules.

The war rules granted Ares the ability to progressively strengthen his physical power and combat instincts during battle, while the steel rules tempered his flesh to a strength far surpassing that of mages of the same level.

He doesn’t practice magic or rely on witchcraft artifacts; he only has his most potent equipment: his body.

Ares ascended to Level 4 through the way of the Knight; his body itself was a living Level 4 Witchcraft Artifact.

The residual force of the four-color vortex struck his chest, and he endured it directly.

His silver military uniform was burned through, revealing a skin with a dark silver metallic sheen that had undergone thorough refinement.

With a sudden clap of his hands in front of his chest, the power of the war rules transformed into an invisible shock wave, dispersing all remaining force of the four-color vortex.

"Report the situation." Ares’ voice was steady with the soldier’s characteristic brevity.

"Energy channel has been cut off." Mateo kneeled on the ice surface, panting heavily, "Fortress annihilated, high probability that Rex is dead..."

Ares’ gaze shifted from Mateo to the dark golden figure on the opposite side of the ice field.

Upon seeing Jin Mo the first time, he made a judgment; the aura of this Four Spirits Elemental Lifeform was distinctly different from those he had encountered on other battlefields.

Not different in strength, but something deeper, almost intuitive.

Having fought countless battles and seen numerous enemies, this was the first time seeing someone like Jin Mo, where the power of four elements harmonized on him as though they naturally belonged together.

"Ares, 235th Legion Commander." Ares stated his name, the voice steady as if presenting a fact on the battlefield, "State your name."

Jin Mo didn’t respond; his gaze stayed a moment on the dark silver skin of Ares, seeming to assess the physical strength of his opponent.

Then he moved.

Without warming up or probing, Jin Mo’s body vanished from its location, reappearing in front of Ares in the next second.

Dark golden fists enveloped in the power of four rules, the four forces simultaneously converging at a single point, without any fancy techniques, purely blending the powers into a burst and striking down.

Ares didn’t dodge; he slightly bent his legs, meeting with a dark silver fist.

Two fists collided.

With the two at the center, the kilometers of ice field shattered instantaneously.

Mateo was flung hundreds of meters by the shockwave, harshly crashing into a broken ice pillar, spitting out blood mixed with ice shards.

He struggled to lift his head, looking toward the battlefield center through the fractured ice surface.

The two had already clashed.

Ares’ war rules made him stronger the more he fought; every punch was heavier than the last, every kick faster than the previous.

Steel rules rendered his flesh impregnable; even when Jin Mo’s powers repeatedly bombarded him, there were only faint scorch marks and dents left on his dark silver skin, and these marks healed at a speed visible to the naked eye.

But Mateo soon detected a problem.

Ares grew more powerful as he fought, but Jin Mo’s offensive didn’t weaken either.

Moreover, Jin Mo’s attack pattern was much richer than Ares; he could freely switch among the four attributes.

The four rules in Jin Mo’s hands were like an adept musician playing a well-mastered tune, without any discordance or switching interval.

More lethal was his speed, which was faster than Ares.

Not just a little faster, but quicker by one tier.

Ares couldn’t manage to evade any of Jin Mo’s attacks while Jin Mo could dodge each of Ares’ blows effortlessly.

In just a few seconds, they had gone through thousands of encounters, and Ares truly was on the losing end.

It wasn’t that Ares wasn’t strong enough, but rather that his enemy’s type happened to restrain him.

His strength lay in close combat, yet after Jin Mo figured out Ares’ traits, he used methods of four attribute fusion to maintain distance and control the pace, preventing Ares from getting into his most comfortable close-quarter fighting range.

Ares himself realized this; he wiped away the blood seeping from the corner of his mouth, the dark silver skin now bore several deep wounds visible to the bone.

It was his first injury on the Four Spirits Elemental Plane battlefield.
