Wizard: Starting from the Skill Tree

Chapter 943 - 814: Preparing for Advancement

Over the dome of the Teleportation Hall, twelve gigantic crystal windows filtered the daylight outside into a gentle silvery-blue, casting dappled shadows on the floor.

The hall buzzed with people coming and going, their robes sweeping the floor with a faint rustle, as occasionally someone stepped out from the teleportation array, and with a flash of silver light, another figure appeared.

Duke stood at the edge of the teleportation array for a moment, his taut nerves over the past days finally easing a bit.

Vera stepped out of the teleportation array behind him, followed closely by Leon and Edmond.

Their boots still bore volcanic ash from the Black Stone Plains, leaving a string of gray footprints on the polished silvery-blue floor.

A few passing Level 1 Mages recognized the dark blue uniforms of the Twenty-Third Battle Group they wore, lingering for a moment at the scorched marks on their frayed cuffs and collars before hurriedly averting their gaze.

News of the Black Stone Plains battle had clearly reached the Six-Ring Tower, and the near-complete destruction of the Twenty-Third Battle Group was evidently no secret.

Such a casualty rate was uncommon even at the Six-Ring Tower, and it had already spread as recent gossip in taverns.

After Duke and the others returned, they immediately went to handle a series of procedures, signing document after document with a quill pen.

These cumbersome steps were unavoidable, as they required registration of all aspects of information.

Not until a full three hours later did they finally finish, each looking rather weary as they dispersed.

Duke returned to the dormitory in Zone 7, washed himself clean from head to toe, changed into a clean robe, and sat down to ponder the next steps.

Advancing to Level 3 Mage is not something that can be done impulsively.

Within the Wizard Plane’s cultivation system, the leap from Level 2 to Level 3 is one of the most critical qualitative transformation points in a wizard’s life.

The core of Level 1 and Level 2 focuses on constructing magic models, accumulating magic power, and tempering spiritual power, essentially laying the foundation.

It is only from Level 3 that a wizard truly steps into the gate of rules.

Rule enlightenment, rule mastery, rule transformation, and the rule spark constitute the complete growth path for a Level 3 Mage, with each tier corresponding to a distinctly different power level.

Advancing to Level 3 itself involves refining spiritual power to perceive and harness rule power, marking the beginning of the entire Level 3 cultivation system, and the watershed moment where a wizard shifts from foundation building to rule enlightenment.

Duke read extensively about the advancement process in the library of the Six-Ring Tower.

The core mechanism of advancing to Level 3 Mage is using the Key of Rules to open the Gate of Rules, enabling the wizard’s spiritual power to deeply resonate with a specific rule.

This process is theoretically clear but fraught with risks and variables in practice.

Firstly, activating the Key of Rules unleashes an extremely intense rule impact, directly affecting the wizard’s spiritual sea.

The spiritual sea is the core of a wizard carrying spiritual power, constructing magic models, and cultivating magic power. If cracks or collapses occur during the rule impact, at best, it results in permanent damage to spiritual power, rendering further advancement impossible for life; at worst, it means becoming an idiot on the spot.

Secondly, rules themselves transcend the realm of human perception. For the spiritual power of a Level 2 Mage to resonate with rules is like a person living solely in a two-dimensional plane trying to comprehend a three-dimensional space.

This is not due to a lack of intelligence but a mismatch in the dimension of perception itself.

The Key of Rules can provide the interface of this dimension, but how much one can see and understand from it depends on the wizard’s own rule enlightenment ability and talent.

Finally, and most importantly, are the external risks.

Advancing to Level 3 Mage is a qualitative transformation of life level, not merely an enhancement in magic power level or spiritual power intensity, but an upgrade in the entire life form.

This upgrade creates a ripple effect across the Endless Plane, attracting various beings, much like a light in the dark inevitably attracting moths.

These entities might be ancient wills from a distant plane, roaming void creatures of the Endless Plane, or even high-dimensional beings glancing over merely out of curiosity from the end of time.

They insert their whispers into the psychic waves generated during the wizard’s ascension, filtering through the plane barrier and directly impacting the ascender’s spiritual sea.

If the ascender’s spiritual power isn’t stable enough, these whispers could exploit the vulnerability, creating illusions within the spiritual sea, implanting fear, distorting perception, and ultimately causing the ascender to lose control of rule power at the crucial moment, leading to either failure to advance or having the spiritual sea explode from the whispers.

Historically, more advancement failures occurred due to external whispers interference than from rule impact itself.

Due to these triple risks, wizards have distilled a set of auxiliary methods through long-term practice, namely magic potions specifically for ascending to Level 3 Mage.

Of course, these magic potions are not mandatory.

Theoretically, a Level 2 Peak Mage with sufficiently strong spiritual power, unwavering will, and outstanding rule enlightenment talent could directly ascend using a Key of Rules without any potion assistance.

During the early development stages of the Wizard Plane, back then, wizards ascended without these potion aids, and the wizarding path was incredibly difficult and perilous.
