Wizard: Starting from the Skill Tree

Chapter 944 - 814: Preparing for Advancement (2)

For the vast majority of wizards today, if they have such conditions, they should naturally make good use of them and not endure needless hardship.

If a magic potion can increase the success probability by even ten percent, it’s worth going all out to prepare for it.

Duke is never the kind of person who would gamble his life on luck. He calculates risks, assesses probabilities, and then makes the most comprehensive preparations.

Ascending to Level 3 is the most crucial leap in his cultivation career. He not only needs to use magic potions but must use the best ones.

Duke plans to prepare three types of magic potions, each with its purpose, all of Level 3 quality, requiring the rarest raw materials and the top magic potion masters to refine them. Of course, it also demands vast financial resources to afford them.

The first is a potion to protect the Spiritual Sea, officially recorded in literature as the Star Sea Sheltering Dew.

Its core role is to strengthen the structural stability of the Spiritual Sea, providing an extra protective membrane during a rule impact to prevent fissures during intense rule oscillations.

For Duke, this potion is especially crucial. His Spiritual Sea is a Six-Element Compound Spiritual Crystal, its strength far surpassing that of mages of the same level with a single element.

Theoretically speaking, Duke, who possesses a Six-Element Compound Spiritual Crystal, has a Spiritual Sea stability that far exceeds ordinary Level 2 mages, with a much higher probability of ascension.

But being cautious is never wrong; there’s no need to skimp on these things.

The Star Sea Sheltering Dew can enhance the resilience of the Spiritual Sea to a level far beyond normal, allowing it to sway like a flexible spider web during rule impacts without breaking.

The second is a potion that significantly enhances rule insight capabilities within a short time, known as the Pupil of the Rule Horizon in the Six-Ring Tower’s knowledge system.

Its function is to temporarily increase a wizard’s sensitivity to rule power, making previously vague and elusive rule traces clear and visible.

If the Key of Rules opens a door to the realm of rules, then the Pupil of the Rule Horizon equips this door with a high-precision lens, allowing the wizard to see more and clearer details.

The effect of this potion varies from person to person; the higher one’s talent, the more apparent the amplification after use.

Duke possesses a Six-Element High-Level Affinity. This talent already provides a massive advantage in rule enlightenment. If he can temporarily amplify it further with the Pupil of the Rule Horizon during ascension, the rule power he can "see" is likely to far exceed the expectations of ordinary wizards.

The third is a potion to resist external interference, called the Silent Eternal Seal.

Its role is to construct a barrier around the wizard’s Spiritual Sea, isolating or at least significantly weakening those whispers from the Endless Plane that cause interference.

During ascension, the wizard will briefly connect with broader dimensions. This connection is unavoidable; it is an inherent phenomenon during life-level ascension.

The Silent Eternal Seal cannot completely block this connection, but it can act like a precise sound filter, filtering out whispers that could cause destructive interference with spiritual power, leaving only harmless white noise.

For wizards whose spiritual power is easily affected by external fluctuations, this potion is almost a prerequisite for successful ascension.

Three types of magic potions, three different protections, each capable of increasing the success rate of ascension somewhat.

But their prices are equally staggering, each costing over billions of Level 1 Magic Stones, and even money can’t always buy them.

Third-Level Potions and First-Level, Second-Level Potions have a fundamental difference.

First-Level and Second-Level Potions can be mass-produced through assembly-line standard refining; as long as there are enough raw materials and qualified alchemists, production can keep up steadily.

But not Third-Level Potions. During the refining process, many critical steps require the alchemist to assist with rule power.

For instance, when extracting certain high-level materials, rule power is needed to strip impurities at a microscopic level without damaging active ingredients. Or in the final potion stage, rule fragments must be incorporated into the potion structure, endowing the potion with rule-level efficacy.

This means that alchemists who can refine Third-Level Potions are at least Third-Level Alchemists, a threshold that filters out the majority of alchemists.

This is also why Duke is currently unable to refine Third-Level Potions; he still cannot meet this basic requirement.

Moreover, the scarcity of raw materials is an even bigger bottleneck.

The materials needed for Third-Level Potions are hardly produced in Low Planes. They often grow in extreme environments of medium and high-planes, such as the polar icy abysses, lava cores, void rifts, and the edges of the World Tree’s roots.

Ordinary wizards can’t even enter these places; entering them doesn’t guarantee survival, and surviving doesn’t ensure finding the needed materials.

Many raw materials have extremely short harvesting windows, with some appearing only during specific astronomical cycles, and some requiring special processing within hours after picking, or they lose their activity completely.

Thus, the quantity of Third-Level Potions is very low, and production far from meets the huge market demand.

So, for Duke, the only path before him is to collect raw materials himself and then hire a magic potion master to refine them.

The formula for Star Sea Sheltering Dew can be found in the public area of the Six-Ring Tower Library.

Its main materials are Starlight Sand, Empty Crystal Grass, and Tidal Tears, with over a dozen auxiliary materials, most of which are common, Level 2 quality materials that can be directly purchased from the market.

The real bottleneck lies in the main material, Starlight Sand, a rare mineral that can only be collected at the boundary between the starry realm and void at the edge of the star realm, having an intermediate state between solid and liquid, slowly vaporizing at room temperature.

Collecting Starlight Sand requires going deep into the star realm, a place ordinary wizards cannot venture into.

Empty Crystal Grass is also not cheap. It’s a plant that grows at the spatial rift edges of the shattered planes, maturing only once every hundred years.

Tidal Tears are relatively easier to find; they are a specialty of the ocean plane, and the Star Dome Commerce Association has fixed procurement channels in the ocean plane, which shouldn’t be a problem.

The formula for the Pupil of the Rule Horizon is much more obscure; Duke didn’t find a complete version in the public directory. Ultimately, he exchanged contribution points for limited-time reading rights to the library’s third floor and found its detailed records in an ancient alchemical manuscript whose spine was nearly falling apart.

The main materials are Aurora True Liquid, Dragon’s Breath Pollen, and Nightmare Dust. Aurora True Liquid is a liquid light that only condenses in the aurora belt of the Aurora Plane, needing to be collected with special containers during the hours when the aurora is at its peak. Missing it means waiting for the next aurora cycle, usually several decades.

Dragon’s Breath Pollen is a product of the Dragon Race Plane, not ordinary dragon breath but crystal powder formed on plants around at least Level 3 ancient dragons as they exhale during slumber.

But Nightmare Dust... Duke stared at this name on the list, his brow slightly furrowed.

Nightmare Plane.

Within the known map of the Endless Plane, the Nightmare Plane is an extremely special existence.

No one knows where it is exactly, and no one has truly seen the full picture of this plane.

Yet it is omnipresent because all the dreams of the living beings in the Endless Plane originate from it.

Some wizards speculate that the Nightmare Plane is essentially a weave of dreams from all the living beings in the Endless Plane, and as long as there are beings in the Endless Plane capable of dreaming, the Nightmare Plane will never be destroyed.

It is a top-tier plane and is considered extremely powerful even among top-tier planes.

The strongest life currently known in the Wizard Plane is only Level 6 Life, whereas Level 6 in the Nightmare Plane is merely middle-tier.

Entities of Level 9 Life exist there, and Duke could not even begin to imagine their power forms.

For ordinary life forms, the Nightmare Plane is a death zone; without sufficient strength, they might not survive even a day.

Just the energy fluctuations from the involuntary whispers emitted by some top-tier entities are enough to pose a massive threat to lower-level life forms, potentially trapping the souls of outsiders there eternally.
