World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 162: Last RequirementBOOOOM!!!
The shockwave that reached them was faint but powerful, proving that it had come from a far distance. Leon and Selene stood up with sharp expressions.
"What could that... be?" Selene muttered, tilting her head curiously.
Her hand already rested on the hilt of her sword, ready to unsheath it at any moment.
"I’m guessing two monsters are fighting. Should we go check?" Leon asked, his gaze fixed on the distant source of the sound.
Selene nodded, then dashed forward at full speed. Leon followed behind her, barely matching her speed.
Although his stats were monstrous, he couldn’t compare to Selene who was almost a peak Tier One Evolved.
Still, the fact that he could keep up was enough to make her impressed.
Several hundred meters were crossed by the two as they ventured deeper into the forest, drawing closer to the clash between the two unknown creatures.
At this point, the shockwaves had become heavy enough to make them guard themselves. To avoid being knocked around, they switched from running across the ground to darting through the trees.
Finally, they stopped at the edge of a clearing that spanned several hundred meters.
"What the..." Leon almost cursed, his eyes wide as he saw the two creatures fighting.
One of them was a giant gorilla over ten-foot tall. Its entire body was covered in orange flames, and two sharp sabertooths protruded from its mouth.
Held in its hands was a thick club made of strange metal that clearly wasn’t ordinary.
The mutated beast had several injuries on its body, yet its red eyes glowed with fury and intense desire to kill.
’It’s a Tier Two beast. Certainly stronger than that Frost Serpent.’
Leon held his breath, feeling fear at the sight of this creature. Slowly, his gaze turned to the other beast, and he felt a wave of terror.
This wasn’t a beast. It was a monster. Despite having a yellow crystal and being one tier weaker than the mutated gorilla, it was able to match its power.
"Is that... a dragon?" Selene whispered to him, her voice trembling.
Leon felt her grip on his arm tighten, and he couldn’t help but feel bitter. It was obvious that she felt fear for this monstrosity. He couldn’t blame her, though. It was the same with him.
Still, she was wrong about something.
"No. That’s a wyvern," He corrected with a dry chuckle.
Thankfully, the area wasn’t silent, so their whispers were negligible.
His chuckle seemed to have eased Selene’s fear slightly, as he heard her sigh.
"Not funny."
Leon held back the urge to laugh at her grumpy tone, but he knew this was their only attempt at suppressing the fear they had.
The Wyvern stood tall on all fours, barely matching the height of the mutated gorilla. Its body was covered in thick, dark scales that overlapped like pieces of armor, each one reflecting the sunlight with a dull metallic sheen. Two powerful hind legs supported its massive body, their muscles bulging beneath the scales and ending in three enormous, curved claws.
Its forelimbs were shorter but no less dangerous, each ending in sharp talons that dug into the earth. From its wrists extended a pair of enormous leathery wings connected to its shoulders, their dark membranes stretched between elongated bones. Even folded, the wings were large enough to cast a shadow over several meters of ground.
A long, muscular tail dragged behind it, ending in a viciously pointed tip that constantly swept from side to side. Its neck rose high above its broad chest, leading to a reptilian head adorned with two backward-curving horns.
The beast’s jaws parted slightly, revealing rows of jagged teeth. A faint stream of smoke escaped between them.
Leon almost felt like giving up. This was what he was supposed to kill ’alone’ before he advanced into Tier One?
"You know it specifically?" Selene asked, seemingly sensing his fluctuating emotions.
"Yeah," Leon nodded. "That’s the last requirement for my evolution. Kill that thing alone."
"Oh..." She blinked, alternated her gaze between the two, then said matter-of-factly, "You’re dead."
"I know I am. You shouldn’t spell it o—"
ROAR!!!
The wyvern’s earthshaking roar interrupted him, and Leon couldn’t help but feel that the beast was rude. However, it wasn’t like he could complain. He didn’t even dare complain.
He could only remain silent with Selene as they hid their presence and watched.
In response to the wyvern’s roar, the mutated gorilla bared its teeth, then charged forward. The distance between them was closed in a few seconds, and it swung its metallic club at the wyvern’s head.
The dragon-like beast’s golden eyes flashed with intelligence as it stepped back, unwilling to let that attack hit its head.
Instead,it turned slightly and swung its tail to meet the powerful club swooping towards it.
BOOM!
The moment the tail and the weapon collided, a heavy shockwave was produced, almost blasting the two humans off the tree and crushing several bones in their bodies.
Thankfully, Selene was fast and erected an ice shield before them. Even then, the shield was crushed despite being able to contain 70% of the shockwave’s power.
The remaining 30% was enough to knock the wind out of her, and she would have fallen off the tree if Leon hadn’t yanked her up by her neck.
Although that was not gentlemanly at all, she didn’t complain.
Unaware that their battle was being spectated by two humans, the two monsters stepped up and attacked each other again.
The wyvern pounced on the gorilla, its claws slicing into its flesh with brutal intensity. The beast roared in pain and retaliated with a swift uppercut to the wyvern’s jaw, knocking it back.
Both monsters locked eyes with each other, one pair red, the other golden.
With matching furious roars, they attacked each other again, their massive frames coiling in a gruesome struggle. The wyvern pressed its advantage as a monster capable of great destruction.
Its claws, teeth, and immense strength were used wisely, dealing several deep wounds to the mutated gorilla.
Still, the mammal didn’t lose. Although it couldn’t match the wyvern’s intensity, its resilience was a different matter. It withstood each and every blow of the wyvern, always retaliating with fierce punches or wild swings of its metal club.
Like this, the battle between the two monstrosities stretched on for two hours. At this point, the sky had darkened and the moon was already high above them like a third spectator.
"Looks like they’re getting tired..." Leon whispered, his face pale.
Beside him, Selene nodded, her breathing heavy. She had spent more than half of her mana, and even used the Force Ring several times to negate the shockwaves created whenever the two monsters clashed.
Even though the duo had only been watching, they were paying the price for lingering around.
"Do you want to go back?" She asked, averting her gaze from the two monsters to look at him.
Leon had a bitter smile on his face as he answered, "I want to, but I can’t."
His black eyes gleamed with a mix of hopelessness and resolve as he stared at the scaled monster. Tonight, one of them had to die.
Meanwhile, Thyra had finally returned to the camp, and when she noticed Leon’s absence, she tracked him into the forest, stumbling upon the scene below.
Her expression turned serious, and she couldn’t help but feel agitated. The outcome of tonight’s battle was going to determine if she was going to have to return to her ability scroll state once again, or have hope of rebuilding a body without losing her current host.
