Leon forcefully suppressed his fears as he gazed at the Wyvern. Unlike when they had first arrived, the beast was very injured. One of its horns was broken after receiving a clean, unavoidable hit from the opponent’s club.

Its injury wasn’t limited to that alone. Its leathary wings were torn in many places, with the gorilla’s fire having burned the flesh until it stopped bleeding.

One of its eyes had been destroyed by a brutal punch, and it could only rely on the other eye for vision.

’Other than that, there aren’t any significant wounds. But I guess the exhaustion could count.’

Sighing one last time, he reached for his blade. Suddenly, he saw Thyra appear beside him, almost giving him a jump scare.

Thankfully, Selene was still observing the two monsters that were warily gazing at each other, so she didn’t notice anything.

Thyra had a grim expression on her face, one Leon had never seen before. For a moment, he thought she wasn’t the Thyra he knew.

Before he could think about what to say to her, she beat him to it.

"This is not exactly the best time for a reunion, but I’m glad I’m not too late."

From her storage ring, she took out a necklace with a rat skull as the pendant. Leon immediately recognized it, as this was the only Cursed Treasure he had ever seen.

Thyra handed it to him, her tone solemn. "I doubt you can beat it with your own strength alone. So, as I promised in our oath, I’m giving it to you when you need it."

Leon nodded faintly as he accepted it and checked its information. A full minute later, he smiled bitterly.

"I really hope I don’t have to use this."

At his voice, Selene turned. "Use what?"

Leon gently shook his head and locked the necklace around his neck.

Then, his expression turned serious.

"Selene, I’m going to burden you with holding back that gorilla."

She nodded, already expecting this. Since Leon’s last evolution requirement was related to the wyvern, he wouldn’t want the gorilla to interfere.

Leon stood up from his crouching position, his knees popping at the movement.

"Also, when this is over... I’ll be trusting you to take care of my body."

"Hm?" Selene let out a confused sound, but Leon was no longer paying attention to her.

His attention was fixed on the wyvern as he prepared his next move. The shadow of his sword slithered from the ground and wrapped around the unsheathed weapon, turning it a shade darker.

Then, Leon did something that made even Thyra’s eyes widen.

His own shadow moved and wrapped around him like a second skin. Instantly, Leon felt a surreal sensation.

It was like he was lighter. It felt like he was... complete.

[You have been augmented by your shadow. You receive a temporary increase of +20 to all your physical stats]

The message surprised him, but he was pleased. His body was already brimming with energy, but he wasn’t done yet.

He added his remaining stat points into his Strength stats, raising it to 199 points.

Beside him, Selene also prepared her attack to divert the mutated gorilla’s attention. She unsheathed her sword, then activated one of her new skills.

Her sword began to radiate a cold energy, dropping the temperature around them by several degrees Celsius.

"Ready?"

Leon asked, his thigh muscles tensing. In response, she raised her sword. No more words were necessary.

Bang!

Leon stomped his foot on the tree branch and shattered it into pieces, shooting straight at the wyvern at breakneck speed.

Selene was prepared for that, as she had also jumped. Mid-air, she swung her sword at the hulking beast several meters away.

From the movement of her sword, a thick arc of ice energy sliced towards the mutated gorilla, landing on its arm before it could react. The beast roared in pain and immediately turned its attention towards the young woman charging at it.

Meanwhile, Leon’s jump had propelled him high above the wyvern, his legs bent backwards.

’Die!’

Seemingly sensing the danger from above, the wyvern looked up. Unfortunately, it was too late. The beast could only turn and let its horn absorb the impact.

BANG!

Leon’s black blade landed on its horn, and he was sent flying. However, he quickly regained his mobility and landed perfectly, his body seemingly as light as a feather.

’This... an effect of the shadow thing?’

He didn’t have much time to think about it, as the beast already turned to him. A portion of its horn had been chipped off, and the impact left the wyvern momentarily dazed.

ROAR!!!

Challenged and injured by an insignificant creature, the wyvern was furious. Without hesitation, it raised a foreleg and brought it down on Leon.

Leon almost froze from the tremendous pressure of the attack. Thankfully, he quickly snapped out of his daze and jumped out of the way.

Boom!

The beast’s attack caved in the ground and sent a blast of dirt and air from the impact. Leon didn’t pause. Before it could pull back, he leapt onto the extended limb and sprinted forward with all his might.

The wyvern snorted in annoyance and snapped its jaws at him. Leon already expected this, as he was well aware of how powerful its razor teeth were.

Not wanting to be chopped in half, he stepped into the shadow cast by its looming head and disappeared.

He reappeared on the other side of the beast, his eyes locking onto his original target. There, on the wyvern’s neck, was a cracked scale where the mutated gorilla’s club had hit earlier.

’It’s cracked, but still not enough... If I can make the crack widen, then I might be able to use that move.’

Whoosh!

Sensing the tail sweeping towards him, he realized he had hesitated for too long. Unfortunately, it was already too close for him to dodge.

’I’ll have to reduce the impact!’

"Haaaahhh!!!"

He tightened his grip on his sword, then swung it at the approaching tail.

Bang!

Just as he expected, he was blown back by the attack. Still, he managed to weaken the attack by about 40%.

Unfortunately, the remaining 60% was enough to rattle his internal organs and make him cough up a mouthful of blood.

’Just one hit... and my bones almost snapped. Dammit!’
