Leon felt indignant and frustrated. For a moment, he felt like dropping his weapon and howling curses towards the sky. Why did he have to kill this monster alone?

He couldn’t even enlist Selene’s help, and he couldn’t allow the mutated gorilla to interfere.

Besides, it was obvious that the gorilla wasn’t going to win anyway. Except for the heavy hits it had landed, there was barely any damage done to the wyvern.

’Why... why is it so goddamn hard to survive?!’

His black eyes blazed with anger as he stared at the monster’s golden eyes that seemed to mock his weakness.

For the first time, Leon felt the genuine desire to kill and crush this creature. If he couldn’t kill it, then he wouldn’t evolve.

’And if I can’t evolve, I can’t reach her.’

His expression settled into a frightening calm, and he slowly straightened his back.

[Killing Intent activated]

[Due to unknown reasons, Killing Intent has evolved to Berserk Rage]

[Boon: Attack Power and Defense Power doubles for two minutes]

[Flaw: Partial loss in rationality until the time frame elapses]

Leon definitely wasn’t expecting this, but he was glad. Anything that could increase his chances in this fight was welcome.

His vision seemed to be clouded by a tinge of red, and a low growl escaped his clenched teeth. Still, before the flaw completely took control, he gave one ultimate command to his mind.

’Target the broken scale on the neck.’

The next moment, his world turned red. With startling ferocity, he dashed at the monster and swung his sword.

The wyvern snorted through its nostrils and met his attack with a single sweep of its claws.

CLANG!

To its disbelief and shock, it was actually knocked back a little. Although Leon was rattled inwardly by the impact, he didn’t let it push him back. Instead, he redirected most of the force to his side, then stomped on its left foreleg and leaped into the air.

The neck of his target was right before him, and he could see the cracked scale more clearly. This time, he didn’t care about observing how cracked it was.

He simply swung the black greatsword.

BANG! Crack!

The hit was heavy and sharp, enough to make the wyvern recoil in pain. The crack in the seemingly impenetrable scale had widened. Furious, it immediately flicked its tail towards him, hoping to catch his body mid-air.

The human couldn’t dodge. At least, logic said so as gravity laid claim to him. However, Leon somehow defied logic.

He didn’t step on air, and neither did he suddenly grow wings. Instead, he felt his body grow lighter, and his falling speed decreased. This gave him enough time to turn around and smash his greatsword at the incoming tail.

Bang!

He was sent flying instantly, crashing into a sturdy tree and almost having himself buried in its massive trunk.

The wyvern wasn’t unscathed either. Even though none of its scales cracked, it still felt pain as the tail was smacked to the ground.

ROAR!!!

Its angry roar overlapped with the frustrated roar of the mutated gorilla as it tried to get rid of the annoying human pestering it. Selene didn’t bother fighting it head-on.

Even though she was confident that she wouldn’t lose, she didn’t want to risk her life unnecessarily. One swing from that gigantic metallic club would be enough to end her life.

So, she stuck to distracting it from the battle between Leon and the wyvern. Thankfully, she was able to do this excellently.

Although the mutated gorilla was strong, it wasn’t that fast. With Selene using her Frozen Step ability, she was able to dodge its attacks. She still had to deal with the shockwaves, though.

For now, she was holding out. Waiting until Leon was done.

’I just hope he doesn’t die. Making a friend and losing him in a few hours would be awful.’

Meanwhile, Leon and the wyvern were already locked in a deadly battle against each other. Leon always targeted the neck like it was a divine fruit he couldn’t wait to eat.

For a full minute, each of his blows landed on the cracked scale until a portion of it broke off, revealing reddened flesh underneath. This was a success on his part, but the success came with a price.

Panting, he looked up at the furious monster that glared at him like it wanted to completely wipe out his existence.

His arms trembled from the strain, and his stamina had almost dropped to half. The Tier Two armor he had just gotten had been reduced to a sorry state, and was barely holding on.

The claws and heavy tail of the wyvern weren’t nice enough to keep the new armor in good shape. It was as if the wyvern wanted to spite him by ruining his armor.

Unfortunately—or perhaps fortunately—Leon wasn’t in the right mind to pay attention to that. Although the flaw only stated partial loss in sanity, it was definitely more than that.

At this point, apart from the thought of targeting the cracked scale, there was only one other thought in his head.

Kill.

Leon lunged at the wyvern again even though his sore muscles begged him to stop. Like a frenzied beast, he moved in erratic patterns that continued to irritate the monster.

Every claw strike or sweep of its tail was redirected, with barely half of its force reaching Leon. Even in a berserk state, his Martial Mastery trait hadn’t disappeared.

It was a trait, and it was always active. Leon used the flat of his blade to push a striking foreleg off course, letting it slam into the ground beside him.

Boom!

He didn’t stop. He rushed at the monster, leapt off its leg, then hacked at the same spot again. The wyvern already knew what he was aiming for, but it couldn’t defend. Its large size was currently a disadvantage, as it could barely make any major movement to attack the human who was too close to it.

Slice!

This time, Leon’s blade didn’t land on the broken scale. Instead, it struck the exposed flesh and... drew blood.

ROAARRR!!!

The wyvern’s roar was packed with rage, traveling several kilometers through the forest. A weak, unranked creature had actually managed to make it bleed?

Even the large mutated gorilla stopped trying to catch Selene and looked back. The wyvern was absolutely pissed, and it didn’t hesitate to raise its claws and strike at its own neck.

If he could crush that little creature, then the pain would be worth it in the end.

Leon was mid-air and couldn’t dodge. Even altering his weight wouldn’t help. He could only place the greatsword before him and tank the attack.

BANG! Crack... crack...!

Under his wide eyes as the Berserk Rage effect cooled off, his black greatsword, whose durability had already dropped to pitiful numbers after several unfriendly collisions with the wyvern, cracked and shattered into large chunks of black jade. Unimpeded, the attack struck him squarely in the chest.

Boom!
