Leon managed to avoid being flattened against the wyvern’s body, but he didn’t escape unscathed.

When he reappeared under the shadow of a nearby tree, he immediately collapsed to the ground.

Over half of the bones in his body were broken into little pieces. His internal organs were in a poor state, and anyone who saw him would think he got run over by a plane.

The wyvern growled softly, arrogance in its eyes as it stared at him. This annoying pest had finally been neutralized. If it had a human face, it’d probably have smirked.

Although Leon was incapacitated, the wyvern didn’t move to finish him off. Instead, it watched patiently, as if waiting for him to make a desperate struggle.

Its golden eyes were filled with arrogance and the desire to crush him properly.

Selene glanced over, her expression sour. Leon wasn’t in good shape—probably half-dead. He couldn’t win. She had to get him out somehow.

’If he can’t take it down now, he can try again later.’

Unfortunately, the mutated gorilla wasn’t ready to let her slip away. After harassing the big ape for several minutes, she had successfully drawn its ire. It smashed its heavy club at her, forcing her to glide away with Frozen Step.

She frowned. Using skills cost mana too, and she was already running low. Her stamina had dropped quite a bit too. If this continued, she was going to get crushed in the end.

Something had to change.

Just then, she glanced at Leon again, and her eyes widened. He was already standing, his wounds mending at a pace that left her frozen in shock. In just a few seconds, he looked like he had just woken up from a nap. If he didn’t have blood on him, no one would think he was in combat just a minute ago.

Unaware of her shock, Leon panted hard as he stared at the shocked wyvern. The monster had every right to be shocked.

After all, its half-dead prey just stood up without any injuries at all. Was such a thing normal? No way. The wyvern was intelligent, which allowed it to feel shock and confusion.

Leon gulped as he used the monster’s momentary daze to stabilize himself. He was barely standing, his stamina having dropped to a single figure after he used Instant Recovery.

’What do I do? My sword...’

He glanced at the weapon in his hand. From the hilt, only about two feet of the blade remained. The rest? Shattered and scattered all over the battlefield.

His gaze flicked to the wound on the wyvern’s neck. He had indeed drawn the monster’s blood, but barely.

’Even if I grow three times stronger, I don’t think I can kill it by beheading.’

To do that, he’d need a better weapon and enough strength to cleave through the thick flesh. It was impossible. He didn’t have that kind of strength, and he didn’t have a proper weapon anymore.

Only a broken sword.

After weighing all his choices, he was left with only one option. A flash of unwillingness shone in his eyes, and was immediately followed by resignation.

’I have no choice. I need to be strong enough to reach Clara, and I still owe Thyra a lot. I can’t give up.’

First, he began to slowly restore his stamina using Stamina Regeneration. Then, he gently held the rat skull pendant between his fingers.

"Curse it. I die or die trying."

With some force, the rat skull broke and crumbled to ash. Before Leon could react, black gas seeped out from the crushed pendant and flowed into his nostrils and mouth—making the process look like a demonic possession or something similar.

The wyvern immediately snapped into focus as it sensed the human’s aura change. Even though it was arrogant, it knew when to be cautious. It was now wary of the human.

Meanwhile, Leon was busy receiving some disturbing Star Stream notifications.

[You have used the Cursed Treasure ’??? Corruption’]

[All your stats have received a 100% boost]

[You have forcefully breached into your future path. Choose a skill to learn: ]

[1. Dark Matter (Tier One): Condenses an immense amount of darkness into a highly unstable sphere that violently expands at the user’s command, unleashing a devastating explosion of corrosive darkness]

[2. Heavy Smash (Tier Three): A single punch capable of shattering mountains and generating a destructive shockwave that can devastate everything within its range]

[Note: The skill you choose will only be available for one minute]

[Flaw: Future Erosion - Forcibly draws power from the user’s future, permanently shortening their lifespan and damaging their potential for future evolution. The greater the power borrowed, the greater the price]

Leon was very much against using this treasure, but he had no choice. Regardless of whether it would affect his future or not, he needed to use it and survive.

Still, he was smart and didn’t choose the second option. He would definitely be able to kill the wyvern with a single blow, but that would probably result in his body exploding.

His body definitely couldn’t withstand that kind of power. It was a solid Tier Three skill. There was no way he was going to risk his unranked body for that.

So, he chose the first option. Although he didn’t know how this would work, he already had a plan in mind.

He raised his head and locked eyes with the wyvern. Then, he activated Shadow Teleportation.

The monster reacted quickly. It had seen him use that move a few times, so it immediately paid attention to the shadows surrounding it.

Just as it expected, Leon reappeared on the right side of its body. It immediately lunged at him, ready to crush him beneath its feet.

Boom!

The ground rumbled as its large feet covered the place it had seen Leon. The wyvern growled softly. It hadn’t felt anything beneath its foot. Instead, it had just been like a casual stomp on the ground.

Unfortunately for the beast, it realized too late. Leon appeared on the left side of its body, then leaped straight for the exposed part of its neck.

It tried to turn away, but Leon was already too close. He anchored himself to its neck with a few shadow tendrils, then stabbed his broken sword into the small wound he had created before.

That clearly wasn’t going to deal any serious injuries. In fact, it barely widened the old injury. However, that was enough.

Closing his eyes as he hung on the monster’s body, he sighed.

’Dark Matter.’

Instantly, the night turned darker.
