Thyra stood above the battlefield, her expression unreadable. Anyone seeing her would think she was just a bystander or spectator that came by to check the interesting yet bitter battle.
Her expression gave nothing away. Yet, deep inside, she felt conflicted. Leon could die down there. The possibility was high.
Yet, he was still fighting. He seemed to have entered an enraged battle mode, as she could see it in his eyes. However...
’It won’t be enough.’
Dragons in general were monstrous creatures. They were apex predators. No ordinary creature could hunt them down. Their relatives weren’t as invincible as dragons, but they were still terrifying creatures in their own right.
Still, Thyra was slightly relieved. The wyvern Leon was fighting was a young one. It hadn’t matured at all, and that was the reason why it hadn’t used any magical attack.
’If he uses that thing... he might have a shot.’
Every part of her logical reasoning was screaming at her that it was impossible. If it had been any other race—perhaps even an Asura demon—they might have had a chance. But a human...?
Thyra shook her head, her purple eyes flashing with resolution.
’I believe in Leon. He won’t... die.’
Shifting her gaze from him, she glanced at Selene who was annoying the mutated gorilla.
Sighing, she covered her face with both hands. She shouldn’t have been this worried. At worst, even if he died, that didn’t mean she would die with him. Her soul would just go dormant until the Star Stream gave someone else her ability scroll.
Still, the thought of Leon dying didn’t settle well with her. It made her feel frustrated by her helplessness.
In the end, no matter how powerful she was, she could only stay and watch. Suddenly, she saw something that made her heart tighten.
Leon was smacked hard. His sword shattered, and he barely escaped being turned to meat paste.
’Get up, Leon. Get up...’ She pleaded in her heart.
At this point, she didn’t care about her reasons for supporting him. She just wanted him to survive.
Thankfully, the wyvern was arrogant and didn’t finish him off immediately. This gave him enough time to patch himself up and stand.
Thyra immediately sighed in relief, patting her ample bosom. However, her relief was short-lived. Seeing him crush the rat skull pendant, her expression hardened.
’No other choice, huh?’
She sighed again, then waited. The battle was coming to an end. Soon, the victor would be decided. She didn’t know what skill Leon had chosen, but she believed he would choose something useful.
Down on the ground, Leon finally attached himself to the wyvern’s neck and stabbed the broken sword into the wound, forcing it open slightly.
The wyvern was about to shake him off when it froze.
Danger.
An overwhelming sense of danger assaulted its senses, causing its golden eyes to dart around in search for the source. It didn’t believe that the human latching onto its neck was the source.
Impossible.
Suddenly, the night sky darkened further, and even the mutated gorilla paused its assault against Selene.
Meanwhile, Leon held his breath as he felt darkness gathering at the broken tip of his blade. This wasn’t the shadow element—a weaker version of darkness.
This was true darkness, the one present in the absence of light.
After a few seconds, he felt his mana almost hitting the rock bottom, and he knew he had to do it now.
’Release.’
The next moment, he was knocked unconscious.
Selene and the mutated gorilla froze, their eyes locked on the broken blade still lodged in the wyvern’s neck. They didn’t even glance at Leon’s body as he fell to the ground.
The wyvern also sensed something wrong and tried to move, but it was too late. No, it didn’t even have an option anyway.
The forest turned eerily silent, then a sharp whistling sound cut through.
Fweeeeee!
The high-pitched, unnatural sound barely lasted. The next moment, Selene’s world turned white.
From the source, a bubble of darkness swelled up, consuming the wyvern’s head in seconds.
Thyra’s expression changed, and her eyes widened in panic.
’This lunatic. He chose that skill?!’ She shrieked inwardly.
Without hesitation, she dove straight for the ground, grabbing Leon before the bubble could reach him. As she passed over the place where Selene and the mutated gorilla lay unconscious, she paused.
’Ugh! Not having a body is really annoying.’
The only human she could touch was Leon, as she was linked to him. Even if she wanted to save Selene, her hand would simply phase through. Unless...
Without any time to waste, she dropped Leon’s body on Selene, then used his arms to hold the silver-haired girl tight. With Leon acting as an anchor, she was able to hold the two. Then, she bolted.
The bubble expanded as it swallowed the wyvern’s head.
For an instant, there was no explosion. The darkness simply consumed everything it touched. The wyvern’s scales vanished first, then its flesh.
Then the surrounding air itself began to distort.
And finally—
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
The earth shattered, the trees were swept away, the powerful beasts lurking nearby were torn apart, dying before they could even realize what had happened.
The atmosphere cackled with energy as the heat from the blast caused a massive sphere of fire to expand from a small luminous point, growing until it swallowed everything within a kilometer like a raging flame beast. The top of the fire dome rose over two hundred meters into the sky, turning the dark clouds into vapor.
Lightning rumbled in the sky as the entire forest erupted into chaos. Mutated beasts turned wild and ran from the impact as terror gripped them. They didn’t care about attacking each other. They simply ran.
Back at the Floyd Camp, everyone was stirred awake by the explosion, and the camp also flared to life.
Marie didn’t know what had happened, but she had a bad feeling. She immediately called for Nicolas and asked him to get the militia ready.
"Do you think we’ll be attacked?" He asked, his expression grim as they ran towards the gate.
Marie nodded. "Definitely. You can already hear the roars. Gather everyone and meet me at the east wall. Whatever’s coming will be from that side."
She didn’t know what had caused that explosion, and she didn’t really care. What she was most concerned about was whether Leon was fine—and Selene too.
She separated from Nicolas and blitzed to the Outer Ring’s east wall where some evolvers were already waiting.
"Miss Marie!"
They immediately recognized her and saluted. Although it had only been a few days since Leon’s group had taken over, their reputation was already high, and everyone treated them with respect.
Marie gave them a sharp nod, then turned her gaze to the distant forest. She could already see several silhouettes shuffling beneath the canopies of the trees, rushing towards them.
Her expression hardened, but her gaze didn’t waver. Soon, the other evolvers and armed militia of the camp arrived.
They all gathered on the east wall, and they could finally see the mutated beasts rushing at them.
"God..." Someone muttered, terrified. His emotions were understandable.
The beasts that were fleeing towards them weren’t ten. They weren’t a hundred. There were thousands of them.
