Chapter 168: Swift Slaughter [75 PS Bonus Chapter (2)]

The golden cross was a symbol of Marie’s Judgement ability. With each strike she landed, the golden cross turned brighter, its effect stacking on the beast.

Marie took a deep breath, then braced herself for the next attack—hopefully, the last.

The mutated bull sensed something was wrong, but was too focused on the battle to care. It simply wanted to charge through the human lines and crush them.

Bang!

The attack connected sharply, its thick metallic horns pressing against her shield. This time, Marie didn’t even move a single step.

Her lips curled slightly, and she took a voluntary step back.

Then, she swung her shield like a weapon, ramming it into the bull’s forehead. The beast stumbled, dazed and disoriented.

Before it could recover, Marie stabbed her spear into its neck, crushing its windpipe and reaching into the back of its head. The beast’s eyes bulged as it tried to struggle and cry. Unfortunately, it could do neither.

[You have slain a Level 30 Tier One Evolved Bull!]

[You cannot level up!]

[Progress has been stored!]

Marie barely paid attention to the message, her eyes fixed on another figure charging at her. She immediately got her shield ready.

From the sea of beasts, a large tiger with bright orange fur burst out and attacked Marie, deeming her the greatest threat.

It had witnessed one of its own being skewered by this woman.

Roar!

Marie’s expression was grim as the beast’s heavy paws slammed into her shield. Her knees buckled, and she almost cursed from how strong the beast was.

Still, she didn’t complain. Before the beast could step back, she shifted her weight and stabbed her spear into the beast’s belly.

Roar!

It immediately pulled back, its eyes flashing with wariness as it observed her. The wound wasn’t too deep, but it was still nasty, nearly reaching its internal organs.

Growling, it got prepared and pounced on her again.

Marie didn’t tank its attack this time. She stepped back, avoiding the deadly set of claws, then smashed her shield against its descending forelegs. Although the bones didn’t break, the beast roared in pain as it was forced to prostrate before the woman.

Marie didn’t hesitate and stabbed forward with precision. Her spear plunged into its eyes and reached its brain, killing it instantly.

[You have slain a Level 29...]

She panted heavily as she pulled back her spear, then scanned her surroundings. The human formation was barely holding out. Over fifty evolvers had been torn to shreds, unable to keep up with the ferocity of the beasts.

The others were struggling, barely able to withstand the assault and retaliate. However, they had one advantage. Unlike the unranked beasts, they had abilities that could be used to attack, besides their weapons.

The unranked beasts had no abilities. They could only move forward with their claws, horns, and fangs, aiming to rip them apart.

This was what kept the human defense from completely breaking apart.

Marie’s eyes narrowed as she spotted an eagle weaving through the barrage of machine-gun fire.

’Tier One.’

Seeing it dive for the evolvers not far from her, she ditched her original target and switched to the mutated eagle.

"Emily! Jones! You two take that monkey."

The couple looked at the beast she had mentioned, and their expressions turned ugly. However, they had no choice but to go intercept it. If they didn’t, the beast would quickly slaughter its way through the human line.

Emily stepped up with a shield she had gotten recently, blocking the mutated monkey’s path. It paused, regarding her with confusion that barely lasted a second.

Then, it lunged forward at a speed she couldn’t even dream to match. Thankfully, her shield was its target, as it seemingly wanted to test the durability.

Bang!

Emily was knocked back by several steps, leaving her exposed. However, she wasn’t worried. Jones slipped out from behind her and slashed at the monkey from a safe distance with his dual blades.

Several silver arcs of energy flooded the area and rained upon the beast, forcing it to cross its arms over its head.

Although he was only Level 25, Jones’s ability was no joke. In no time, the mutated monkey was riddled with cuts, blood seeping from each wound and staining its thick brown fur.

The mutated monkey screamed at them, its eyes flashing with a vicious light. Then, it dropped on all fours and pounced on Jones.

The man’s face turned pale as he slashed twice, then retreated.

The mutated monkey forced its way through his ranged attacks, but was blocked by Emily’s shield.

"Go to hell!"

The woman roared, then lightning burst from the center of her shield, striking it squarely in the chest. The mutated monkey was knocked back, rolling into the dirt and pushing the beasts behind it away.

It immediately sprang back up, furious. With its torso scorched as if it had been roasted, the beast glared at the two humans who had been injuring it.

Then, it bared its teeth and roared. Its eyes turned red, and its muscles bulged. It instantly doubled in size, then charged at the couple again.

"Physical enhancement ability?! Aw, hell no!" Jones complained, but didn’t hesitate to attack the beast. He didn’t think Emily would be able to tank its attack anymore.

Meanwhile, a few minutes earlier, Marie had just appeared in its line of sight when the mutated eagle swooped down towards the evolvers.

It immediately reached for its target with its sharp talons, but Marie was faster. She yanked the man backwards, then stabbed up with all her strength.

Shnk!

The eagle was stunned when its underbelly was suddenly pierced, and it let out a sharp, piercing cry.

Marie stumbled, her grip on the spear faltering.

’It used its ability immediately?’

Pushing through the disorientation, she tightened her grip on the spear, then pulled hard.

Unfortunately, she didn’t manage to knock the bird to the ground. Instead, she was only able to tear a deep wound into its body.

Blood rained from above, and the beast immediately fled back into the air in panic. Before it could escape, heavy machine guns locked onto it and fired.

In a matter of seconds, it was brought down and killed. Marie sighed in relief as she received the kill notification.

Then, she glanced at the couple. They had managed to kill the Tier One monkey, but at the cost of Jones’s left arm being broken. Still, they continued to fight.

Marie was impressed, but didn’t bother with words. That could wait. She immediately plunged back into the battlefield, hunting for Tier One beasts. She couldn’t allow them to roam freely, as they would easily slaughter the evolvers.

Thus, she targeted them one by one, bringing them down before they could activate their abilities.

Thirty minutes later, she had killed all the Tier One beasts in sight. Thankfully, none of them were as strong as the mutated panther Leon faced a few days ago.

Panting, she scanned the battlefield. Her body trembled from exhaustion. Killing nine Tier One beasts had come at a steep price. Even with her shield, there were attacks that she couldn’t avoid, leading to injuries.

Suddenly, the beasts around Marie stopped. Not all of them, but enough. The mutated creatures that had been frantically attacking the walls suddenly lowered their heads and moved aside.

Marie frowned hard. Something was coming.

Two enormous horns slowly emerged from the sea of fleeing beasts, and the moment she saw them, her scalp tingled.

The aura alone was enough to make her exhausted body tense.

’Tier... Two?’
