World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 178: Welcome"You... you fought a wyvern?" Richard stuttered, his eyes wide with disbelief.
"Don’t make it sound like a big deal. It was injured and exhausted. I barely managed to kill it with a suicidal attack," Leon replied casually, his expression indifferent.
"Even then, it’s still a wyvern..." Reymond muttered, looking at the young man with narrowed eyes. It definitely wasn’t as simple as Leon had made it sound.
"Daddy’s so cool!"
Nora cheered as she sat on Leon’s lap, her back pressed against him. Leon chuckled at her comment, agreeing with her.
"Yeah. It was so cool. Wasn’t it?" He asked, his question directed at the silver-haired lady.
Selene held his gaze for a moment, then nodded with a faint chuckle. "Sure, sure. I’ll say it was cool."
Leon let out a short laugh, not noticing how the others observed their interaction with narrowed eyes.
Reymond, in particular, was alarmed. He wasn’t paranoid or anything, but Selene’s change in attitude towards Leon surprised him greatly. Even Gwen looked at her friend with wide eyes, though she said nothing about it.
"W-well, you guys really had it tough. Compared to you guys, what happened here was child’s play," Richard said with a helpless smile.
Leon’s expression snapped to focus, and his eyes narrowed.
"It seems something happened in our absence, huh? Go on," He said, his voice low.
Richard glanced at the others, then nodded.
According to him, on the same day Leon’s group left the apartment building, some group of evolvers showed up, claiming they were from Downtown Brooklyn.
After assessing them, Gwen had been prepared to bring them in, until they showed their intentions to take over the leadership of the survivors base.
Instantly, the two groups turned hostile and clashed. The camp’s evolvers barely managed to force them to retreat, as this outside group had two Tier One Evolveds among them.
Without Richard’s tamed beasts, the skirmishes might have been far more deadly. Still, they lost a few evolvers, as that foreign group was exceptionally sneaky and always ambushed their rescue teams.
In order to avoid losing more evolvers, Gwen had to stop rescue operations. Only after Richard, Miguel, and Reymond became Tier One Evolveds did the group stop attacking them and retreat.
Although they had grievances, Gwen had specifically restrained everyone from outright attacking the group, as they were going to move soon and needed to conserve manpower.
"I see," Leon nodded, gently stroking Nora’s hair. He remained silent for a while, then sighed. "It’s alright. I’ll handle it."
Selene’s eyes narrowed, and she looked at him suspiciously. His expression was unreadable. However, she could tell that he was seething with malice.
She stared at him for a few seconds, then averted her gaze, feeling amused.
"Handle it?" Gwen tilted her head, confused. "You want to confront them?"
"Perhaps? I’m not sure yet," Leon replied vaguely. "I’ll think about it."
Gwen nodded and immediately set the matter aside. She immediately focused on the important things ahead of them.
"When are we moving? You brought quite a sizable escort team."
"I want that to be tomorrow. Is it possible?" He asked, his gaze fixed on her.
"Yeah. I already got everyone prepared. Tomorrow morning it is, then."
Leon was quietly impressed and said, "That saves a lot of time. Thank you, Gwen."
The sincere praise warmed her heart, and she couldn’t hold back a happy smile from blooming across her face.
Leon immediately averted his gaze from her beautiful smile, not wanting to be caught staring.
The group chatted for a while, then went to the large dining hall for dinner. Gwen arranged a place for the Floyd camp evolvers to stay, and they were treated nicely.
At the same time, she informed everyone in the building to get themselves prepared as they would be moving tomorrow. The residents had been anticipating it, and were very excited by the news.
After dinner, everyone was preparing to return to their rooms when Nora walked up to Marie and asked with a pleading voice.
"Mommy, can Daddy Leon stay with us tonight?"
The dining room froze, and all attention fell on the mother-daughter pair.
Marie’s expression turned awkward as she looked at her daughter, not knowing what to say.
"This... you should let him rest, okay? He had a long journey coming here. You know that," She said, trying to coax her into agreeing.
Nora blinked, then turned to Leon. "Daddy, is that true? You’re too tired to stay with us?"
With the question phrased like that, Leon definitely couldn’t say yes. His lips twitched, and after exchanging glances with Marie, he sighed.
"Not at all, sweetie. I’ll join you guys soon, okay? I need to do a few things first."
The others weren’t so surprised that he agreed, as it was well known that he had a soft spot for the little girl.
Still, that didn’t make the situation any less surprising. No one said anything, though. They were all mature.
"Damn, that was the best assist I’ve ever seen," Miguel whispered to Richard, a knowing grin on his face.
The brown-haired beast tamer also gazed at Nora with respect, mentally giving her a salute.
"I wish I could be that useful to Boss."
Fel was left speechless by the two men’s behaviors, and returned to her room first. The others gradually left one by one, until only Leon and Cassie were left in the dining room.
"You won’t say anything?" Leon asked after a full minute of silence.
Cassie shook her head and answered, "Right now, I’m too weak to say anything yet. When I’m qualified, I will."
Leon nodded, then stood up. "Come with me."
The young lady was confused, but still followed him. They gradually made their way towards the gate, with neither of them saying anything.
The guards allowed them through as soon as they recognized them, and the two soon left the base.
As they walked under the dim moonlight, Leon finally broke the silence.
"Regardless, you should have it in mind that I have no intention of dying anytime soon."
He paused, turning around to look at Cassie.
"We will find your family, and if they are still alive, we will save them."
Cassie’s eyes moistened, and she opened her mouth to speak. However, she couldn’t find the words to speak, so she could only choke back a sob.
Leon patted her shoulder, then said with a cold smile.
"Come on, sober up. We have some people to kill tonight."
