Gwen had come down feeling grumpy because of the commotion caused by the guards. However, when she realized it was Selene’s group that had been gone for almost a week, the feeling evaporated.

She hurried downstairs with the others, then froze as soon as she saw them.

Her friend, Selene, was just as radiant as always. She sensed that the young lady had grown stronger, and she felt a flicker of pride.

However, her focus on her barely lasted a few seconds. Slowly, her gaze turned towards the only male in the group.

’Leon...’

She unconsciously held her breath as soon as she saw him, and her heart hammered against her ribs—like a caged bird trying to escape and soar through the skies.

With Gwen’s background, meeting influential and wealthy young men was something simple for her. At family gatherings, she had met several people who were interested in her.

None of them were from ordinary backgrounds, and they were all men who would be considered ideal by almost anyone. Even then, Gwen felt nothing but kindness towards them.

Perhaps because she always looked at her grandfather as the pinnacle of all men, her standards were insanely high. She even doubted she could ever find someone better than her favourite man—Donald.

Yet, she couldn’t have thought that a man who wouldn’t have caught her attention a few months ago, had become someone she was now deeply interested in.

’Why didn’t I notice him in the past?’

She had asked herself this question several times, eventually coming to one solid answer all the time. In the past, they belonged to different social classes, and their paths could never cross.

He was from an ordinary family—and was now an orphan. Meanwhile, she was from a highly influential background. Leon had once been someone she would have passed by without ever knowing his name.

Yet, the apocalypse changed that. It made their paths cross, bringing them together as teammates trying to survive.

When had she begun to feel attracted to him? Gwen wasn’t sure she knew the answer.

The only notable moment she could remember was when he had taught her not to be merciful towards mutated beasts.

Perhaps he didn’t even remember, but that lesson stuck to her deeply. It was at that moment that she began to look at him differently and paying more attention to him.

His habits, his likes, his dislikes, his subconscious actions, and even his mood. She studied everything like a curious scientist, until she realized how deeply engrossed she had become.

When Leon left for the Floyd Camp, she had felt deeply uncomfortable. Not being able to see him and observe his actions made her feel at a loss, and she could only bury herself in the management work of this little settlement.

Still, whenever she was alone at night, her thoughts would drift towards him, and he would occupy her mind until she fell asleep. Sometimes, his figure would even appear in her dreams.

Gwen had never felt so much intensity towards a single person. Although she was a bit naive, she wasn’t foolish about the matters of the heart.

’I... I’m in love...?’

The thought tormented her day and night, and now that her object of love was right before her, those emotions threatened to burst forth like a flood.

She didn’t even notice that her surroundings had gone quiet, and that everyone was staring at her. In a trance-like state, she slowly walked towards him, her gaze fixed.

Gwen stopped in front of him, confusion Leon as he blinked. She was staring at him strangely.

Before he could ask what was wrong, she suddenly stepped forward and pressed her forehead against his chest. Even though he was wearing combat gear, she still felt the heat radiating from his body.

Unconsciously, she wrapped her arms around him and smiled.

"You’re back."

Leon blinked, staring at her like he couldn’t believe his eyes. This... what was this?

Wasn’t she supposed to greet Selene first, then maybe wave at him?

Why was she... hugging him?

’Ah...’

Leon wasn’t dense by any means, and he knew how to read people. Combined with Thyra’s words the day before his departure from this place, he came to the correct conclusion.

’Oh, dear...’

He felt flattered that someone like Gwen was actually interested in him, and he couldn’t deny that he was a little moved. However, he wasn’t even sure how to respond to her gesture.

After several seconds of staring at her with a stunned expression, he smiled faintly and patted her back.

"Mn, I’m back."

Gwen, who had been holding her breath since she hugged him, sighed in relief as a weight was lifted off her shoulder. Only after hugging him did she realize she had acted on impulse.

She began to regret her actions, especially when she could feel the stares of everyone on her. What would Leon do? How would he react?

Those thoughts made her heart heavy, until she heard his calm reply and felt his hand pat her back in a friendly manner.

’Phew...’

She sighed in relief, then stepped back. Her smile turned brighter, and she finally turned to her friend.

Selene looked at her with complicated emotions in her eyes, then smiled faintly. As long as Gwen was happy, she would support her.

The two young ladies hugged each other, until Miguel coughed and broke the silence.

"We shouldn’t stay outside for long, right? Let’s go inside," He grinned widely. "Boss, you have to tell us about your adventures."

Leon rolled his eyes and was about to reply when he noticed someone jump at him.

"Daddy!"

He instinctively caught Nora, who wrapped her little arms around his neck, burying her face in his shoulder.

The little girl giggled as she hugged him, and Leon couldn’t help but smile. Even though he wasn’t her real father, he was starting to get used to being addressed as such.

Letting her hang on him, he led everyone into the building, where the main group settled into the living room.

Immediately, he was bombarded with questions which he calmly answered one after the other, all while being subjected to Cassie’s unnerving stare that seemed to intensify with every passing moment.

By the time he finished informing them about his experiences, the room was silent, and everyone was staring at him, Selene, and Marie with wide eyes.
