World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability

Following Mary’s enraged roar, a thick bolt of lightning, even greater than the former, shot out from her palms straight at Leon.

The lightning bolt swallowed him whole, even passing through him to strike the building behind him.

Rumble!

The hotel collapsed into rubble as the bright flash of the attack slowly cleared.

Mary’s eyes were wide, still blazing with rage, desperation and another emotion she couldn’t say. Her ample chest heaved as she felt a wave of exhaustion wash over her.

That attack was the ultimate skill of her ability, and she could barely cast it twice before her mana reserves ran dry.

Panting, she lowered her hands and raised her head. A wave of unease washed over her as she saw a figure covered by smoke—standing.

Then, she heard a cough, followed by an irritated voice.

"Ah, damn. I should have known this gear wouldn’t last against it. What a mess."

Leon waved away the smoke surrounding him, revealing himself for them all to see. His burnt combat gear had disintegrated from the waist up, exposing a lean, well-trained torso covered only in patches of soot.

"Ha-ha... as I thought..."

Mary let out a broken laugh, her expression sagging. She had a hunch that this would happen. Yet, she still felt shocked.

Leon was almost completely unharmed by her attack, as his body had grown immune to it after being struck the first time. The lightning had coursed through his body, yet unlike before, it no longer hurt. At most, it felt like warm water flowing over his skin.

He was sure that the next time she attacked, he wouldn’t even feel a thing, like her attack was non-existent.

Leon gazed at her quietly, then moved. She blinked once, suddenly finding him before her.

Then, pain exploded in her chest as she felt something cold pierce into her body. Her eyes widened, glaring at him with grievance as she died.

[You have slain a Level...]

Leon pulled out his spear from her heart, letting the corpse hit the ground. He turned to look at the rest who immediately recoiled when his gaze fell on them.

Their leader, Henry, stared at Leon blankly, having lost all hope. Even his savagery and viciousness were gone. He didn’t dare lift a finger against Leon.

In a small corner of his heart, he desperately wished Leon could forget him. He wished he could turn invisible, escaping this monster in human skin.

Leon slowly walked towards him, his face devoid of any expression. In a smooth slash, he beheaded the man, sending him to the afterlife.

"You’re a demon..." Someone whispered, but Leon wasn’t even listening.

With an expressionless face, he moved from one person to the other, clinically beheading them. He didn’t pause or waste time with any of them, choosing to finish this as fast as possible.

He had an uneasy feeling that something dangerous was watching him. He had tried looking for the source, but couldn’t see any.

Still, he didn’t panic. Since this creature—zombie, beast, or human—hadn’t revealed themselves, there was no need to worry too much.

As he killed the last member of the ragtag group, Cassie reappeared, holding Ichigo’s head by his hair.

"He ran as soon as that healer girl healed him, so I personally finished him off."

Leon’s gaze lingered on her expression, then he nodded. After making quick scans on the dead enemies, he walked over to Mary’s corpse and hoisted her over his shoulder.

"I’ll be back in a minute," He said.

Cassie’s eyes twitched, but she said nothing. Instead, she erased her foolish thoughts. Leon surely didn’t have those kinds of preferences... right?

While the girl remained doubtful, Leon entered a game cafe and laid Mary’s body on the ground. His Eyes of Discernment automatically activated, and he saw the abilities she possessed.

— Ability: Lightning Output. Extract?

— Ability: Moonlight Augmentation. Extract?

Leon was intrigued by the two abilities, and immediately crouched to extract them. As his hand sank into her body, he felt weird, like he was doing something morally wrong.

However, he soon ignored the feeling as he took out the two scrolls. A quick glance at their details, and he couldn’t hold back a smile.

When he looked at Mary again, his expression softened. This young lady was surely a blessing to him.

His gaze didn’t linger on her for long, as he focused on her head. Using his special optic trait, he saw a small orb of light in her head.

Without hesitation, he reached into her head and pulled out the orb. It still maintained the same form even when he pulled it out, and he was amazed.

The description was simple and understandable, leaving Leon impressed.

’All her memories? This is quite interesting.’

He kept the scrolls and memory orb in his storage ring, then went back outside.

Cassie was trying not to look at him weirdly as he picked up another body, then went inside the building. A few more minutes passed, and he finally extracted the abilities and memory orbs of the others, keeping them in his storage ring.

"Alright, we’re leaving now," He said to Cassie, snapping her out of her daze.

The girl nodded, falling behind him as they made their way back to the base. A full minute passed after they had left, then space rippled and a figure emerged on the battlefield.

Its glowing yellow eyes looked into the distance where Leon and Cassie had disappeared to, then turned to the cafe where Leon had left the corpses.

Meanwhile, Leon and Cassie finally returned to the base, and bid goodnight to each other. Leon went to his own room—a place he hadn’t visited in a while, and took a relaxing bath.

After twenty minutes, he changed into comfortable nightwear, then stepped out of the room again.

Although he missed his bed, he wasn’t going to sleep there tonight. He had made a promise, after all.

He went to the floor above his, and found Marie leaning against the wall, her arms folded as if she had been expecting him.

Leon paused for a moment when he saw her waiting outside the room. Their eyes met, and he smiled faintly.

"You thought I wouldn’t come?" He asked quietly.

Marie shook her head, smiling helplessly. "It’s Nora. She refused to sleep until you came back, so I came out to check. Then I heard your footsteps."

Leon chuckled softly before nodding. "Sorry for making her wait."

Marie shook her head with a smile and said, "She’ll forget all about it the moment she sees you."

In response, he smiled. "Let’s go."
