World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 183: Night SleepThe two adults entered the room and were greeted by Nora’s cheerful voice.
"Mom! Dad!"
The girl immediately tackled Leon, clinging to him like a koala. He chuckled and brushed her hair.
"You haven’t slept, huh? Sorry I was late."
The young girl shook her head, her eyes bright. "It’s fine, dad. Let’s go to bed."
She quickly got off him, then pulled him towards the king-sized bed. Leon obediently lay in the middle, then watched as Nora nestled on his left side. Still grinning, the girl turned to her mother.
"I’ll take daddy’s left side! You take the right."
Marie blinked in surprise, her lips twitching. "Nora, why don’t you stay in the middle?"
The girl pouted and shook her head. "Mhn-mn. Let Daddy Leon stay in the middle."
Leon was also surprised, and wanted to say something. However, he had a feeling that whatever he said wouldn’t be enough to convince the girl, so he kept quiet. It was better to let Marie handle it.
As expected, Marie switched to her stern mode, and she spoke in a low voice that reminded Leon of his mother.
"Do you want him to leave? Stay in the middle."
Nora’s expression soured, and she lowered her head, whispering, "I only want us to look like a real family."
Although her whisper was like a buzzing mosquito, the two adults were able to hear her perfectly thanks to their enhanced senses.
Marie’s expression softened, and she glanced at Leon with a conflicted expression. Nora’s words had struck a chord in her, and she immediately changed her mind. However, she didn’t want to do anything that’d make Leon uncomfortable.
Leon understood that she was asking for permission, so he nodded with a faint smile.
"It’s fine, Marie. Let’s just go to sleep. We need to be up early tomorrow."
Marie nodded, then climbed onto the bed, lying just a few inches away from him. Leon tensed at the close proximity, but focused most of his attention on Nora.
The girl snuggled into his arm, resting her head on his shoulder. Meanwhile, Marie stayed not too close, and not too far.
’Yeah, this isn’t so bad. Marie isn’t the type to roll in bed, right?’
With that thought in mind, he wrapped his arm around Nora’s little waist, then drifted off to sleep very quickly.
Marie stared at Leon and her daughter, sleeping peacefully with each other. She sincerely wished Nora could have a father figure, as it was obvious that the girl deeply desired it.
’Maybe... maybe it’s possible...’
Her eyes slowly closed, and she fell asleep not long after.
...
The next morning, Leon’s eyes slowly opened, and he tried to move while yawning. However, he couldn’t move, as a heavy weight was pressing against him.
’...uh?’
He blinked, clearing away the drowsiness from his eyes.
To his left, he saw Nora still clinging to him, her petite form looking frail and fragile. To his right... Leon paused.
The first thing he registered was a head with long auburn hair, resting against his shoulder. Then, he felt an adult body pressed against his right side, an arm draped across his torso, and a leg pinning his right leg to the bed.
’Holy...’
After a few seconds, a defeated sigh escaped his lips.
’I guess I was wrong. Marie is the type to roll in bed.’
He couldn’t move since he was pinned by the mother-daughter pair, and he didn’t bother to move either. He turned his head slightly, catching Marie’s beautiful face as she slept peacefully while resting on his shoulder.
She was hugging his arm tightly, allowing him to feel her soft curves against his arm. Leon’s lips twitched as he chanted every known sutra in his mind.
He managed to last for half an hour, his expression like that of a monk. It was at that moment that Marie finally woke up, her eyelids fluttering open.
She blinked once, then twice, trying to regain full clarity. Soon, she realized her position, and her face turned red.
However, instead of pulling away, she actually snuggled closer, burying her face in his shoulder as she took a breath of his scent.
Leon watched her actions, stupefied. Marie continued sniffing him for a few seconds, then raised her head to look at his face.
Their eyes met.
Marie’s eyes widened in panic, and her body froze up. She wanted to say something, but no excuses came. There was no doubt that Leon had seen her actions just now.
Leon stared at her for a few silent seconds, then asked, "Done?"
Marie remained frozen, and her ears turned even redder.
"...No."
She buried her face back into his shoulder for a few more seconds before finally pushing herself away.
’Huh... is she always this clingy? And here I thought Cassie was the odd one.’
Finally freed from her embrace, Leon felt both liberated... and strangely disappointed. It was a shame, really. If only she had woken up a few hours later...
Shaking his head to clear his mind of such funny thoughts, he spoke to her while looking at Nora.
"You should get prepared. We’re moving this morning."
Marie nodded, her expression serious. She didn’t mention anything about what she had just done, and was glad that Leon wasn’t teasing her about it.
Leon gently nudged Nora until the girl stirred awake. She raised her head, then rubbed her eyelids with the back of her hand. With a sleepy expression, she yawned.
"Good morning, daddy."
Leon felt a burst of warmth in his heart, and he couldn’t help but smile.
"Good morning," He replied.
Marie watched their interaction with a loving smile, then stood up from the bed. She walked over to Nora’s side, then gently pried her out of the bed.
"Good morning, sweetie. Time to prepare for the day," She smiled as she led her to the bathroom.
Leon immediately exited the room, not wanting to overstay his welcome.
He could sense the base bustling with action as the residents packed their belongings and got ready for the trip. He made a quick trip to his own room, then took a shower.
As he dried his body, he tried sniffing himself. "Do I really smell that good?"
In the end, he was disappointed when he couldn’t smell any special scent coming from his body. Shrugging, he chalked it up to Marie simply having a sharper sense of smell.
In a matter of minutes, he was clad in a set of combat gear, then went downstairs.
Selene and Gwen were already there, discussing the Floyd Camp’s management. The moment they saw him, they both turned to him with smiles—one bright, one faint.
Leon exchanged a few words with them, then frowned. He looked towards the window, noticing the gloomy weather of the day. Even though it was past eight in the morning, the sun was being obscured by thick clouds.
Somehow, this gave Leon a bad feeling.
"What is it?" Selene asked, sensing his unease.
Leon tore his gaze from the sky, then looked at the two women.
"I don’t know, but you should speed up the evacuation process. I’ll join you guys in a bit."
Selene frowned, then nodded. "Be careful."
Leon nodded and turned to Gwen. "I’ll be trusting you with the coordination. Thanks."
The young lady smiled brightly, easing the weight in his heart slightly as he walked out of the building. Once he crossed the gates, he picked up his pace and ran back to the place he had killed ten human evolvers yesterday.
There were no corpses on the streets, which was normal as he had taken them into the game cafe. However, when his gaze landed on the shattered doors of the building, his expression darkened.
